- “Oh, I'm paying you way too much alimony.”
- — Charlene to Heinz
Charleinz is the het ship between Heinz Doofenshmirtz and Charlene Doofenshmirtz from the Phineas and Ferb fabdin.
Canon[]
Overview[]
Heinz and Charlene are a divorced mother and father to Vanessa Doofenshmirtz, who they now have shared custody over. Although the story of how they met or how their marriage played out has been left unexplored, it has been established that the two of them got divorced over an argument stemming from Heinz's creepy hand puppet, Mr. Tomato. Today, they are bitter exes, who live in different houses and Heinz collects monthly alimony checks from Charlene, which he uses to fund his villainous schemes. Charlene is unaware that her ex-husband is evil but she does know that he spends his money on elaborate garbage that leaves her to consider that she's spending way too much of money on his alimony checks. Nevertheless, she still gives him his court-ordered checks and usually just stays out of his way so she can live her own life. However, every single time she comes down to his house, whether it's to deliver alimony checks or being forced to come over by Vanessa, vainly attempting to prove that he's evil, Charlene is always just absolutely befuddled to see what ridiculous situations her miserable ex, Heinz has gotten himself into this time.
Season 1[]
I SCREAM, YOU SCREAM
Charlene was not sold on the idea of Heinz being evil, no matter how much Vanessa tried to prove it to her. Charlene justified that her ex may be very wacky and eccentric but he doesn't have a mean bone in his body. Charlene came down to Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated and apparently, didn't see the big sign on the building. She walked in and saw Heinz being covered in ice cream from his giant soft-serve machine. Vanessa tried to sell Charlene on this being evil but she thought that this was nothing more than just being "a bit much". Charlene believed that she was paying way too much alimony to Heinz.
HAIL DOOFANIA!
Charlene was brought all the way down to the Freight Emergency Harbor so see Heinz swimming around in the water. Charlene noticed that Heinz had created a tiny model of the city out of felt, which she thought was kind of cute but also pretty ridiculous. Heinz explained that he had a lot of felt and Charlene said that this little doodad he built was at least better than the dining set they built while they were married. Heinz told Charlene that he was trying to forget about that little debacle but she kept on reminding him. Heinz noted in the Doofanian National Anthem that he was glad that in his newfound country, he'd be away from his ex-wife.
Season 2[]
THADDEUS AND THOR
Heinz was upset to see Charlene at the Doofenshmirtz family reunion, playing kickball with them. He told her that since they split up, she shouldn't be there. Charlene justified her presence by saying that she still kept the family name.
Season 3[]
THIS IS YOUR BACKSTORY
Charlene came down to deliver Heinz' alimony check in person and was admittedly kind of amazed to see that he had built a game show set, although she couldn't believe that this was the kind of crap he spent his alimony money on. This just further proved to Charlene that Heinz is a very sad man, making very foolish decisions in life. She was, however, quite friendly with Norm, telling him that he had a nice tux. Charlene's presence fueled Heinz's anger as it reminded him about how horrible his former marriage was to her.
Season 4[]
BEE DAY
Charlene came down to Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated to get Vanessa's headphones after she left them at Heinz's house. Charlene found herself oddly allured by Heinz all of a sudden, seeing him as being somewhat attractive now. Heinz claimed that he sprayed himself with bee pheromones and Charlene started to forget why she even dumped him in the first place. Heinz reminded her of Mr. Tomato, his little tomato puppet with a depressing British accent. This killed the mood for Charlene and brought her right back to hating him again. Charlene thanked Heinz for keeping her at arms lengths and walked away.
IT'S NO PICNIC
Heinz complained about how much money he was giving to Charlene in alimony money. Charlene was shown going on extreme eco-cultural exploration vacation, which was costing him a whole lot of money. It is unknown why Heinz was paying Charlene alimony all of a sudden, when she had been the one paying him alimony beforehand.
BACK TO THE 2ND DIMENSION
The second dimension versions of Heinz and Charlene were apparently still married and only pretending to be divorced so that they could scam the government out of their money in tax advantages. They would also reveal that as a married couple, they never agree on anything such as what restaurant eat at or what exotic place to vacation to. Thanks to their fraudulent "divorce", they can just go their separate ways for this. They also don't have to share a house together, both getting government-funded places of their very own, which they never have to share. Despite not living together, they still see each other all the time through a telescopic lens. This long-distance relationship is actually beneficial to the both of them because conversations are never forced on the rare occasions that they actually do see each other. Also on their rare in-person meetings, they commit villainous crimes together and plot to take over The Tri-State Area. However, this is only the second dimension versions of Heinz and Charlene, meaning that this isn't canon to their true dynamic.
Fanon[]
Some people think that Heinz and Charlene should get back together again, shipping them as an official couple. The chemistry between the 2nd dimension versions of them only pretending to be divorced from "Back to the 2nd Dimension" sets them up to be a nice Bonnie and Clyde pair of super villains, leading some fans to consider that this would work out the same way if the 1st dimension versions of them tried this exact same thing.
