Chatty is the het ship between Patricia "Peppermint Patty" Reichardt and Charlie Brown from the Peanuts fandom.

Canon[]

Canonically, Peppermint Patty suffers from unrequited love for Charlie Brown. She slowly developed a crush on Charlie over the years, though it is difficult to pinpoint exactly when she fell for him. As for Charlie, he is oblivious towards her feelings for him and only sees her as a friend. Their dynamic is marked by Patty’s assertive personality contrasting with Charlie's more reserved, anxious nature.

Patty often engages in flirtatious teasing with Charlie, playfully testing his feelings and playing lovers' games with him, only to grow frustrated or irritated when he fails to respond romantically; he genuinely cares for her, but solely as a friend and is oblivious to her feelings towards him, despite occasional tensions caused by her assertive and commanding demeanor. Initially, she employed reverse psychology, asking questions like, "You kind of like me, don’t you, Chuck?"—a tactic that masked her own evident crush on him, while Charlie Brown, lacking any romantic feelings for her, remained puzzled by her bold approach. In one strip, she goes as far as to send a valentine to Charlie Brown that says, "I know you like me."

Peppermint Patty initially dismissed any crush on Charlie Brown, rejecting him as "too wishy-washy" and boasting she could "strike him out on three straight pitches," even rudely mocking him during a Ha-Ha Herman game when she believed he couldn’t hear. Nevertheless, Marcie discerned Peppermint Patty’s genuine affection despite her denials.

In more recent Peanuts media however, (more specifically the new Apple TV specials) Peppermint Patty does not seem to have a crush on Charlie Brown anymore and their relationship is more of a friendly athletic rivalry.

In a June 1972 storyline, Peppermint Patty encounters the Little Red-Haired Girl at a summer camp they both attend, with the intent to confront her, but instead confides in Linus Van Pelt that she broke down crying after the meeting. Overwhelmed with emotion upon seeing her rival, she bursts into tears and expresses to Linus her painful realization of the qualities she lacks and can never attain. This emotional outburst indirectly leads to Charlie Brown, who is at the nearby boys’ camp, being sent home early, mistakenly labeled a troublemaker due to the commotion. Additionally, Patty seemed to get annoyed whenever Charlie mentioned the Little Red-haired Girl, and on one occasion, she heatedly voiced her jealousy to him over his feelings for her.

Peppermint Patty often attempts to discuss matters of the heart with Charlie Brown, typically shown sitting together under a tree, and frequently calls him on the phone, dominating the conversation, though Charlie Brown skillfully dodges these topics, often feigning ignorance. In a Sunday strip from July 22, 1979, part of a storyline where Charlie Brown was hospitalized, Peppermint Patty confessed her feelings for him, while Marcie, in the same strip, declared her love for "Chuck," even expressing readiness to marry him.

Charlie Brown, however, regards Peppermint Patty solely as a friend, enjoying games with her and occasionally opening up about his emotions, but never with romantic intent. His sister Sally has often told her brother that Peppermint Patty probably likes him, though in response, he wonders why anyone would like him.
