ChiKou is the het ship between Chie Satonaka and Kou Ichijo from the Persona fandom.
Canon[]
Chie and Kou are classmates at Yasogami High School. Kou is the captain of the basketball team, and becomes close friends with Yu Narukami when he convinces him to join the team. At the end of Kou's social link, he reveals to Yu that he has a crush on Chie. He also admits that he's jealous of Yu for sitting next to Chie in class.
Their relationship is expanded upon in Persona 4: The Animation. Kou is seen acting nervous around Chie, and his crush is made much more apparent. Just like in the game, Yu joins the basketball team. There, he meets Ai Ebihara who is the manager of the basketball team. As Yu gets to know Ai, he learns that she has a crush on Kou. At her urging, Yu approaches Kou and asks about his taste in women. Kou then confesses that he has feelings for Chie, which Ai overhears. Chie later joins the team as a temporary manager, which only increases Ai's jealousy. This inevitably causes her to get into a fight with Chie for Kou's affections, despite the fact that Chie has never shown any romantic interest in him.
In Persona 4: The Golden Animation, Chie and Kou share a brief interaction. After dressing up as Rise to distract the hoard of fans around her house, Kou arrives at Junes for the Investigation Team's concert. Chie compliments Kou, which causes him to panic and run away in embarrassment.
Fanon[]
As one of the few semi-canon ships in the series, ChiKou is relatively popular in fanworks. Fans enjoy the dynamic between the two, with Chie being loud and brash and Kou being more soft spoken. They also enjoy the spotlight that the anime gave to Kou's crush on Chie, expanding on the feelings featured in the game. Many believe that Kou would help Chie with her insecurities regarding her femininity, which are seen manifested by her Shadow. Some fan works involve Chie taking on a more permanent role as the basketball team's manager, while some portray the two as playing basketball together.
ChiKou is often overshadowed by the more popular slash and femslash pairings for the characters, with Kou's most popular pairing being him and Daisuke, and Chie's most popular pairing being YukiChie. On AO3, ChiKou is the second most written ship for Kou. There are currently 30+ written works.
