Chip 'n Dale is the family ship between Chip and Dale from the Mickey Mouse and Friends, Kingdom Hearts, and Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers fandoms.

In the classic cartoons, the two chipmunks were brothers who live together and are often pitted against Donald Duck and Pluto. They generally don't mean to annoy anyone, but when someone gets in their way or vice-versa, they can get relentless sometimes leading to a lot of slapstick.
Chip is generally more neurotic and focused on surviving, while Dale is more hapless and lazy. Oftentimes, Chip needs to physically push his brother into doing what he wants or knock him on the head.
Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers (cartoon)[]

The series never mentions their exact relationship, they were introduced in the first episodes as close friends of a retired police dog. After solving a case intended for the dog's owner, the two of them go around the glope making allies in Monterey Jack and his pet fly Zipper and Gadget, the daughter of Monty's old friend Geegaw Hawkwrench. The five of them found the titular Rescue Rangers and become professional crime fighters from that point onward, solving cases beneath humanity's noses.
Chip is the unspoken leader of the group and takes the job very seriously, Dale is his more laid-back sidekick. Though they generally get along fine, their mutual crush on Gadget causes a few quarrels here and there.
Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers (2022)[]

The movie depicts them as childhood friends, who grew up to become stars of their own show, Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers. After years of susses as their stars rise and getting to hang out with other stars, Dale had grown tired of being Chip's second banana and wanted a change. Even if it means leaving Chip's side and the show that made them the stars they are. Chip tries to talk Dale out of it after he broke the news to him, knowing that the Rescue Rangers can't go on without Chip and Dale, but Dale tells Chip that he would be fine while he gets to star in his own film. Dale leaving did force the studio to cancel the show and has Chip deciding to leave showbiz all together, while Dale stays in the spot light of it.
The two friends grew a part as the years past. Chip remained an animated toon, while Dale got CGI sergury to keep up with the times. At the comic-con Dale has a Rescue Rangers table at, some of the toon actors ask him about Chip, from how they used to attend these kind of events together.

Chip and Dale are well loved by fans of the Mickeyverse and the Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers cartoon. With them being an iconic duo in Disney's media circles, that mostly involves Mickey and the gang.
The ambiguity in their relationship in the original cartoons caused some confusion with foreign markets, some even depicting them as husband and wife instead of brothers. This is most likely because Chip's more high-pitched voice, smaller face and easily irritated personality was read as him being Dale's nagging wife. By the time Rescue Rangers debuted, their brotherly bond was properly established.
Rescue Rangers fans often gave them separate surnames to further emphasize the lack of relation they have in the series. They are most commonly known as "Chip Maplewood" and "Dale Oakmont" thanks to the very first Rescue Rangers fanfic "Rhyme and Reason" referring to them as such.
