ChoIno is the het ship between Chōji Akimichi and Ino Yamanaka from the Naruto fandom.
Canon[]
Chōji and Ino were in the same class at the Konohagakure Ninja Academy. They graduated together and were assigned to Team 10 along with Shikamaru Nara under the leadership of Asuma Sarutobi. Ino had been hoping to be assigned to the same team as her crush, Sasuke Uchiha, and was upset that her love rival, Sakura Haruno, was assigned to the same team as him while she was not. Ino was further annoyed about being assigned to the same team as Shikamaru, and was upset that she was also teamed up with a 'fatty' like Chōji. Despite this, the three decided to get to know each other better, and learned to get along.
Chōji and Ino later signed up to take the Chunin Exams along with Shikamaru. During the first round, Ino managed to steal the answers from Sakura using her Mind Transfer Jutsu, and then used another telepathic jutsu to give the answers to Chōji. During the second round in the Forest of Death, they stumbled upon Sakura fighting a team from the Hidden Sound Village by herself. When Ino decided to help save Sakura, Chōji was supportive and helped her keep them at bay until Sasuke woke up. Their team managed to complete the second round and advance.
A preliminary round was held before the final round due to too many applicants passing, and they had to fight in one-on-one fights to eliminate half of the applicants. Ino fought against her rival Sakura, and Chōji was worried about her using her Mind Transfer Jutsu without the aid of himself and Shikamaru. However, Ino had sat up a hair trap to make it work, but the battle still ended in a draw. When it was Chōji's turn to fight against Dosu Kinuta, he just wanted to surrender, but Ino encouraged him to fight, and he also lost.
Ino and Chōji later attended the third round of the Chunin Exams as spectators to support their teammate Shikamaru, who had managed to pass the preliminaries. They sat next to teach other in the audience and fell asleep after being caught in a genjutsu that signified the start of an invasion on Konoha. They both later attended the Third Hokage's funeral in the aftermath. When Sasuke left the village, Chōji participated in the mission to bring him back, and almost died in the process. Ino waited outside of the operating room and was worried about him, and was relieved when he turned out to be okay.
Chōji were later given another chance to take the Chunin Exams along with Sakura, and were promoted to Chunin. They were later given a mission to fight two members of Akatsuki, Hidan and Kakuzu, and their teacher Asuma was killed by Hidan. Chōji and Ino both cried together over the death of their leader. When Sasuke was declared an S-rank criminal, Ino cried, and Chōji comforted her. Asuma was later revived by the Edo Tensei in the Fourth Shinobi World War, and they were forced to fight him. Chōji could not bring himself to fight Asuma so Ino used the Mind Transfer Jutsu to fight Asuma using his body.
Following the end of the war, Ino and Chōji both had children, with Ino having a son named Inojin and Chōji having a daughter named Chōchō. They would often bring their kids together for training. At some point, Chōji went on a mission and used his butterfly form. Chōchō returned to the village and saw Chōji and Ino talking. Chōchō asked Chōji if he was her father, to which he responded with confusion that his daughter did not recognize him. Ino pointed out that Chōchō had probably never seen Chōji in his 'thin form' after using the butterfly form. When their children graduated from the academy, they were assigned to the same team.
Fanon[]
ChoIno has a decent amount of popularity in the Naruto fandom. It is generally overshadowed by other Ino pairings such as SasuIno and ShikaIno. It is often shipped as a companion ship to SasuSaku and ShikaTema, both of which became canon in the end. However, ChoIno did not become canon, as the ships for the two that became canon were SaiIno and ChouKaru, and popularity for the pairing declined once it was learned that they did not become canon. AO3 has over 130 works for the pairing while FFN has 25 works, and the DeviantArt group has over 300 members. ChoIno rivals the ChouKaru, SaiIno, ShikaIno, SasuIno, NaruIno, and SakuIno pairings.
