Cho Hyun-ju is a character from the Squid Game fandom.

Hyun-ju is very popular in the fandom, with fans loving her personality and her development in character. At first she wasn't as confident and even shy, as evident by her telling people to not look at her when playing Jegi. However, after finding the right people, those being Young-mi, Yong-sik and Geum-ja, she becomes more confident in her abilities and starts helping others. Her moment of confidence shines when getting ready for the rebellion, in which she shows other players how to use their weapons. Fans praised her for 'carrying' the rebellion as she took down most of the guards and shot down the cameras. People like her character a lot and she is usually an example of a well written trans character.
Lots of popular videos of her include meme videos where it shows good FPS shooter gameplay (usually Rainbow Six Siege, Call of Duty: Warzone or Valorant) with the caption being, "How Player 120 was moving in Episode 7", or "POV: Player 120 if Player 388 brought the ammo". Variants include slideshows with similiar statements. A lot of jokes are also made about how she felt nostalgia during Episode 7, referring to her experience in the army. Some fans even joked about how In-ho, the FrontMan, is going to promote her to become a soldier due to her expertise in shooting, evident by how many soldiers of his that she has killed.
A scene that people absolutely love of her is when she slaps Seon-nyeo during Six-Legged Pentathlon. It made a very big impact on her character, as it would showcase not only her strength but would also be the first time fans would see her so serious. Another popular scene is the one during Mingle, dubbed as the "Unnie Scene", which made fans cry quite heavy. Lots of parodies are made on Tiktok regarding the scene, with most videos being made in video games like Roblox.
There was some controversy surrounding her character, more specifically her actor when people first found out that a trans woman was going to be played by a cis man. Although, after the release of the show, most criticism died out as people were surprised by the good acting of her character, as well as how the show handled her story and development overall.
