- Maribelle – “Milord, I am... deeply and madly in love with you! I always have been so, even when we were but children.”
- Chrom – “You really should have told me earlier, Maribelle. Because the truth is... I feel the same for you.”
Chromibelle is the het ship between Chrom and Maribelle from the Fire Emblem Awakening fandom.
Canon[]
Fire Emblem Awakening[]
Chrom is the slow-witted but honorable prince and later ruler of Ylisse, as well as the captain of a militia known as the Shepherds. Maribelle is a sharp-tongued noblewoman and the best friend of Chrom's sister, Lissa. Chrom and Maribelle can enter a relationship in the game if the two characters achieve an S Support. Alternatively, if the player does not S Support them by Chapter 11, Chrom will automatically propose to Maribelle at the end of the battle. Two years into their marriage, Maribelle gives birth to a daughter, Lucina. The couple will also go on to have a son, Brady, after the events of the game.
C Support[]
In their C Support, Maribelle offers to prepare a tea for Chrom, whom she worries about due to the stress of the war with Plegia. Chrom accepts, but asks Maribelle not to fuss over him. He remarks that while he may be a prince, royal titles are unimportant during a war, and they are all allies and equals. Chrom then expresses concern over how hard Maribelle has been working on the Shepherds' behalf, and asks her to take care of herself, "for him." Maribelle promises to do so. After that, they part ways, with Maribelle saying that she hopes they'll have the opportunity to have tea together again. Chrom agrees before leaving.
B Support[]
In their B Support, Chrom encounters Maribelle brooding. When asked about the situation, she says she notices that too many men are becoming close to Chrom's younger sister, Lissa, and that as Lissa's best friend, it is her job to keep them away, because she believes they may have bad intentions. Chrom tells Maribelle that she is overreacting, declaring that it is normal for Lissa to have a few male friends in the army. Maribelle says that she will thoroughly interview any man whom she suspects of getting too close to Lissa to be sure his intentions are good. Chrom relents, laughing, and admits that in a way it's reassuring to have someone looking out for his sister. He asks Maribelle to keep Lissa safe for him, to which she readily promises.
A Support[]
In their A Support, Maribelle greets Chrom and asks if there is anything she can do for him to ease the burden he must be carrying as the prince of a nation at war. Chrom declines, and, like in their C Support, asks Maribelle not to worry so much on his behalf because she is working just as hard as he is. He then brings up the events of Chapter 5, when Maribelle is kidnapped by Plegia. He asks if it is true that she attempted to reason with the Plegians and talk them out of crossing the border, an act meant to start a war with Ylisse. Maribelle admits that she did. Chrom praises her actions, calling them brave and noble, but asks Maribelle not to put herself in danger like that again. He reminds her that they are equals, and remarks that if something were to happen to her, it would be a pain he and Lissa could not bear. Maribelle swears to refrain from taking such risks in the future.
S Support[]
In their final Support, Maribelle invites Chrom to tea again. He is happy to accept, surprised and pleased to find that Maribelle has prepared his favorite snack from childhood. When he asks how she knew it was his favorite, she mentions that Lissa told him. From there, Maribelle seems to slip into a daydream, remarking that she can't help but envy Lissa because of Chrom's affection for her, and wistfully declaring that she wishes she could be a part of the royal court with them. Chrom assures her that she is not missing anything—the duties of a royal are dreadfully dull. Maribelle then laments that as a prince, Chrom is always surrounded by beautiful women, and she fears he'll never find a place for her in his heart. Chrom is taken aback by the statement, while Maribelle realizes what she said and becomes embarrassed. She apologizes, asking to start over. She then confesses that she is in love with Chrom and has been for years, but she never told him due to her own insecurities. Still, she says she cannot keep the feelings to herself any longer, and had to tell him. Chrom replies that he wishes she had told him earlier, because he is also in love with her. He proposes to her with a royal ring, which Maribelle joyfully accepts. Chrom says he wonders how Lissa will take the news of their engagement. The new couple agrees that she'll most likely be thrilled.
Alternate Marriage Proposal[]
If Chrom and Maribelle have not achieved an S Support by Chapter 11 in the game, they may begin a relationship in a different way. At the end of the final battle of the war with Plegia, Chrom will propose to the female friend with which he has the highest Support. If it is Maribelle, she will greet him after the fight, expressing concern for Lissa's wellbeing. Chrom is disappointed that the concern was for Lissa and not for him. Maribelle admits that she was also deeply worried about him, but was too embarrassed to say so. Chrom tells Maribelle that he is grateful to her for being there for Lissa when their sister died during the events of Chapter 9. Moreover, he has come to realize what a caring woman she is. He proposes marriage, surprising but delighting her. The scene ends with a short epilogue of the war. Chrom and Maribelle are happily married, which Chrom had "always known" they would be.
Fanon[]
Despite being canon, Chromibelle has a small following. It is generally not as popular as other ships involving Chrom or Maribelle. It has competition from Chrom ships such as Chrobin and Chromia, as well as Maribelle ships such as Vaikibelle (Vaike/Maribelle) and Rickibelle (Ricken/Maribelle). Fans of Chromibelle typically feel that the Supports between Chrom and Maribelle are incredibly meaningful, perhaps more than supports about pies (Chromia) or walking in on a woman in the bath (Chrobin). Some believe that shipping them can also fill an interesting niche in the game by giving Lucina a high magic stat, making her an ideal Dark Knight. Others favor the ship because it gives Brady the useful Rightful King skill, which can mesh nicely with Luna and Miracle, two of his most powerful skills.
