Games[]

Core games[]

GSC[]

Ethan comes to Chuck's gym to challenge him for the Storm Badge. Chuck breaks a rock in front of him, to which Ethan presumably replies that it doesn't apply to Pokémon, to which Chuck agrees, but the battle begins anyway. After Ethan wins, Chuck says that he will train for 24 hours after this. Ethan can talk to Chuck's wife, who can tell him that he should train more, as he has become quite chubby, and also gives him HM02 Fly.

HGSS[]

The events in the remake are quite similar, but before he can fight Chuck, Ethan must turn off the flow of the waterfall where Chuck was training. His wife gives the young trainer the Gym Leader's phone number, so Ethan can always contact him. He can meet Chuck again at the Fighting Dojo, after his 24-hour training, and after Ethan wins, the Gym Leader tells him that fighting him is never boring. Chuck can be available for a rematch on Wednesday night. They can also both meet at the Embedded Tower.

Side games[]

Puzzle Quest[]

Similar to the mainline games, Ethan is a playable character and Chuck is a Gym Leader that the player must defeat.

Pokemon Masters[]

Ethan and Chuck can be selected to be on the same team by the player.

Manga[]

Golden Boys[]

Having arrived in Cianwood City, Gold and Chris part ways with Lugia. Gold wonders were the pharmacy is. Gold's Tyrogue uses Rock Smash to keep a Pokémon from rolling. Chuck praises Gold and does the rest of the job. Chuck's Poliwrath gets hurt when the Pokémon's owner rolls on top of it and Chuck. Chuck brings out a SecretPotion. Gold and Chris are enthusiastic and tell him why they came but he explains that the pharmacy was closed. Gold acts as a Gym Leader. Black later comes to challenge. His Xatu gang up on Gold Tyrogue and use Peck. However, Gold manages to win: Black calls his Xatu "weakling" and swears not to lose next time. Eusine suddenly appears and says Gold's Pikachu is his from the future.

Quotes[]

GSC

“WAHAHAH! So you've come this far! Let me tell you, I'm tough! My Pokémon will crush stones and shatter bones! Watch this! Urggh! ... Oooarrgh! (throws away the boulder besides himself) There! Scared now, are you? What? It has nothing to do with Pokémon? That's true! Come on. We shall do battle!”
— Chuck speaks to Ethan when he came to challenge him at the Gym. From the dialogue, it can be understood that Ethan responded to him, but the player did not hear it because the main characters in Pokémon games are usually silent.
“Wha? Huh? I lost? How about that! You're worthy of StormBadge!”
— Chuck when he was defeated by Ethan.
“WAHAHAH! I enjoyed battling you! But a loss is a loss! From now on, I'm going to train 24 hours a day!”
— Chuck to Ethan when he talks to him again

HGSS

“Ooomph! The pounding waterfall right onto my head... Arrgh! Why did you stop the waterfall from pouring on me! You just spoiled my training! I have to warn you that I am a strong Trainer training every day under this waterfall! What? It has nothing to do with Pokémon? ... That's true! ... ... Come on. We shall do battle!”
— Chuck, when Ethan interrupted his training under the waterfall to fight him.
“Wahaha! A battle with you is never boring!”
— Chuck to Ethan after the rematch.
“Yo! Chuck here! What's up? You know, I'm just going to say this once, but I... I really like sweets. They're the best. After training every day, the thing that I absolutely look forward to more than anything is sneaking behind my wife's back to eat something sweet. Fortunately, I haven't been packing on too many pounds... Oh! Don't tell my wife! Please!”
— Chuck confides a secret to Ethan from his own wife.
“Hello?! Oh, hey, sorry for shouting! I'm doing great! You know there're some stronger Gym Leaders around. Don't lose heart! Keep going!”
— Chuck
“I see! So you've defeated all the Gym Leaders in Kanto as well! Then there's nothing to worry about. Believe in yourself and walk your path. Yahaha!”
— Chuck to Ethan when he defeated all the Gym Leaders in the Kanto region.

Fanon[]

This duo is not very popular due to the low demand for Chuck fan content in the fandom. Some of the people who are interested in their interactions may actually see Chuck as a mentor to Ethan, especially after the Golden Boys manga, where Chuck entrusted him with the title of temporary Gym Leader and also directly called him his student, even though he didn't want to take students at all in the first place.

Trivia[]
