Chucklin is the slash ship between Charlie Brown and Franklin Armstrong from the Peanuts fandom.

Canon[]

Charlie Brown and Franklin are beloved characters in Charles M. Schulz’s Peanuts comic strip, which ran from 1950 to 2000, as well as in animated specials, films, and related media. Charlie Brown, introduced in 1950, is the strip’s iconic everyman—a kind-hearted, anxious boy who grapples with self-doubt. Franklin, debuting in 1968 as the strip’s first Black character, is a thoughtful, level-headed kid who goes to school with Peppermint Patty and Marcie.

At the beach, Charlie Brown first encountered Franklin, striking up a conversation that laid the foundation for their friendship. Franklin shared that his father was a soldier serving in Vietnam, prompting Charlie to respond, “My dad’s a barber… he fought in a war too, but I’m not sure which one.” The two boys also enjoyed sharing stories about their grandfathers. When Franklin later paid Charlie Brown a visit, he seemed confused by all the strange things in Charlie Brown's neighborhood.

In the 2024 special Snoopy Presents: Welcome Home, Franklin, Franklin learns of a soapbox derby offering a trophy and free pizza for a year, seeing it as a chance to prove himself a “winner” per his grandfather’s advice and making new friendships. He teams up with Charlie Brown to build their soapbox racer. While gathering materials for their soapbox racer, Franklin clashes with Lucy, who mocks his choice to team up with Charlie Brown, predicting it will lead to disaster, but Franklin dismisses it. The two boys quickly form a strong bond, delighting in their shared interests. As they assemble their derby car, Franklin and Charlie find common ground in their love for baseball, with Franklin also introducing Charlie to his fascination with jazz and dreams of space travel. Franklin reveals that he wants to be an astronaut while Charlie says he wants to be a baseball player because he would get to go to different cities, something that Franklin is too familiar with. During a test run, Charlie’s anxious fiddling with the brakes leads to a crash, sparking a heated argument between them. Later that night, the two reunite at their wrecked soapbox, reconcile, and resolve to repair it together, pooling their efforts to make it race-ready.

Franklin and Charlie Brown are always on good terms, with Franklin often regarded as one of the kindest characters to Charlie in the Peanuts strip. They enjoy simple moments together, like constructing sandcastles at the beach, visiting Charlie’s house, or settling in to watch movies. Introduced in a 1968 storyline where they first built sandcastles, Franklin remains a steady presence in Charlie’s life. Franklin has an even-keeled personality and is neither a bully, a possible love interest, or a flighty daydreamer, so he provides some stability in Charlie Brown's life.
