Chulu is the slash ship between Pavel Chekov and Hikaru Sulu from the Star Trek fandom.

Once Chekov joined the Enterprise crew, he and Sulu were often seen together. The two flew the ship together on many of their shifts, and would often banter back and forth on occasion. They were Best Friends during their first 5 year mission, but were separated when Chekov was placed on the USS Reliant. The two were reunited when Khan resurfaced and Chekov was back aboard the Enterprise.

Chulu is one of the more popular ships from the TOS fandom. Though it has more popularity within the AO3 fandom. The ship gained notoriety due to how often the two were paired together either in the background or during specific missions. Especially during the movies which brought many of the biggest ships in the fandom more attention. It is often a rival ship for McChekov and Benkaru.
Many were drawn to the banter that they had during many TOS episodes. Due to them being at the helm together, it made it hard not to see the two as close. With many liking the idea of the two of them being best friends. They were also most likely the youngest members of the crew, which made it even easier for fans too ship them.
Some often see it as a pair the spares kind of ship. As it was often popular to pair up all the main TOS characters in a perfect set. This often resulted in the ship being a background pair for many pairings. With it often being shipped alongside Spirk, McChapel and Uhotty.
On AO3, Chulu is the most written ship for both Chekov and Sulu. It is also the sixth most written ship in the Star Trek: Alternate Original Series tag. There are currently 1300+ written works.
