Clankie is the non-binary ship between Cleo de Nile and Frankie Stein from the Monster High fandom.
Canon[]
Generation 1[]
Frankie and Cleo initially get off on the wrong foot. In the webisode 'New Ghoul @ School' Frankie decidedly starts crushing on Deuce, who just so happens to be Cleo's boyfriend. When Cleo questions Frankie, Frankie tells her that her boyfriend is Deuce, leading Cleo to get furious with both Frankie and Deuce. Eventually, Frankie makes it up to Cleo by telling her that she lied about the fact they were dating. Cleo doesn't fully forgive Frankie, but Frankie tries to make it up to her by giving her and the school a personalized Justin Biter concert. In response, Cleo allows Frankie to be in the fear-leading squad.
Frankie lists Cleo as one of her best friends, although Cleo doesn't list Frankie as one of hers. Frankie and Cleo, although having a tumultuous start to their relationship initially; as well as Cleo getting easily annoyed with Frankie sometimes, are still friends who care for each other.
Generation 2[]
Although this generation generally has less content for Frankie and Cleo together, they are labelled as being Close/Best Friends for each other and are generally close.
Generation 3[]
Cleo and Frankie are close to each other, Cleo labeling Frankie as one of her "Best Boos" Cleo and Frankie are also mutually crushing on each other.
In the episode "Pyramid Scheme" Cleo and Frankie have many moments, like when Cleo tells Frankie to go first in walking in the tomb, Frankie responds with "Yep! Anything for you, Cleo!" although they quickly get transported out as an intruder. Later in the episode, Cleo sacrifices her heart to save her sister and keep Cleopatra's necklace; Frankie decides to replace the heart she gave with a rock heart and give Cleo her heart back, leading them to hug each other.
In the episode "Horoscare" Cleo gets her own horoscare after downloading the app that tells her that "A monster most precious to you will enter your life in an unexpected way today." Cleo believes the app is talking about her favorite influencer, Pearl Ryuzaki, in which she immediatly starts planning a welcome party. Frankie decides to help Cleo with the planning, Cleo then takes Frankie's hand and they leave to start planning. While they start making the Coffin Bean ready for the party. Cleo says "The Coffin Bean's good enough for a party, is it good enough for Pearl?" which leads Frankie to respond with "Definitely. Any party you're in charge of is sure to be Zaptacular. You're so good at parties and planning things and picking things and making things nicer, and um, sweeping! I should be sweeping." Frankie awkwardly responds, implying they have a crush on Cleo. They continue to work on the party by dancing together to pary music, although they get interrupted by Lagoona. Despite that, they start dancing without music together and continuing their planning. Frankie starts baking fishcakes, although they accidentally get messed up by Cleo as the mixer goes array and gets some batter on Cleo's face that Frankie wipes off as they laugh together. Frankie continues to help her plan the party, Cleo calls Frankie a genius. She also grabs Frankie's face and tells them that she adores their brain, making Frankie blush. Frankie also ends up saving Cleo from the traps ridden by Toralei. Although Pearl didn't end up coming to the party; Frankie decides to giver Cleo jewelry, as Cleo invites Frankie to hang out together so they can make jewelry together. Cleo's final line of the episode is "So, the horoscare was totally made up, but a precious monster did come into my life, like, more into my life."
Cleo and Frankie are frequently seen positioned together in Generation 3 official media, in artwork, the intro, and promotional material for the animated TV show. There are also minor details in the dolls; such as their iCoffins texting each other.
Fanon[]
This ship has had a mostly positive reception between fans of the Monster High series, especially fans of the third Generation. Although some people think the Cleo's generation 1 relationship between her and Deuce is better, and that it should've been Clawdeen and Draculaura who get together as the LGBTQ ship instead of Frankie and Cleo. Despite that, it's one of the currently more popular ships in the Monster High fandom.
