Claudain is the het ship between Claud and Edain from the Fire Emblem fandom.
Canon[]
Claud and Edain are two playable characters in Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War.
They are two nobles of the Grannvale kingdom, and both descend from two legendary crusaders (Bragi and Ullr respectively) therefore both inherit holy blood from them (a major Bragi blood for Claud and a minor Ullr blood for Edain). Claud was the duke of Edda and a priest of the Bragi Church. Edain was the daughter of the Duke of Yngvi (her twin sister was the heir). Edain originally had a training to become a knight, but she decided to become a cleric in order to aid her chances of finding her long-lost sister, who was kidnapped by pirates at the age of five.
Edain was in the army of her childhood friend, Sigurd. One day when Sigurd's army was engaged in the Agustrian civil war, Claud came to warn Sigurd that the prince of Grannvale has been murdered and that Sigurd's family has been blamed for this. Claud then go to the Bragi Tower to discover the truth behind prince Kurth's death so he finds the Valkyrie Staff. After leaving, he encounters Sigurd on in a battle against the Orgahill Pirates and enlists in his army. He joins Sigurd's army when they flee to Silesse to escape Grannvale's forces who were trying to kill Sigurd, who has been branded as a traitor, and during this journey he meets and bonds with Edain.
If Edain reaches enough love points with Claud they will wed. In Chapter 5, Sigurd and his army return to Grannvale to clean his name. If Edain and Claud are married, they will have a special conversation, in which Claud gives a Rescue staff to her while revealing that he has learned at the Bragi Tower, that this war will end in their defeat. He also declares that he gave her this rescue staff, so that she can save the children of the members of the army, since he will die she has to survive. Edain refuses this fate but Claud say that it has to happen and that he doesn't fear death. Claud tells Edain that he was been blessed to have met her.
Like Claud predicted, Sigurd is betrayed and killed by prince Arvis. Claud is killed along most of the army; however Edain manages to escape and flees to Isaach (where some members of the army had already sent their children to keep them safe). She becomes an abbess in Tirnanog, a small town of Isaach. She raises their own children Lana and Lester, and acts as a mother figure to Seliph, Diarmuid, Tristan, Larcei, Creidne, Scáthach, Dalvin. Around one decade later, her two children that she has with her husband are also major figures in the upcoming war. Her daughter Lana, will inherit her class and inventory while her son Lester inherits his father's inventory. After the war, Lester will reconquer the lands of his family and will became the duke of Edda like his father before him.

Fanon[]
Claudain has a niche following, but is not the most popular option for either Edain and Claud. This is due to the fact that Claud and Edain are side characters and share just one conversation and this happen only if they are already married. Since not many players choose to pair Edain and Claud, seeing that he comes later in the story and Edain joins the party in the second chapter, only a few of them see the conversation in Chapter 5. However this conversation is considered to be a great characterisation for both characters. Claud and Edain also have a common ground with both being healers, priests and users of magic.
On Edain's side, the two main rivals are Midain and Jamkedain, with another small part of fandom also liking her with Lex, Arden or Azelle. Both Midir and Jamke get some interactions with Edain. The main reason that Midir or Jamke are generally chosen over Claud to be Edain's husband is that they produce a decent Lana and a good Lester mechanically for combat, though players who care more for story may prefer pairings such as Claudain. On Claud's side, the main rival is Clauvia, seeing that Silvia is the potential love interest for Claud that has the most interactions with him. Other popular rivals of the ship are Claud x Erinys or Claud x Tailtu, since their kids will have good stat growths.
The players who marry Edain with Claud focus mostly on Lana, since both are healers, and with Claud as her father, Lana will have a good magic and an excellent luck. She will also start Generation 2 with the rescue staff in her inventory and thanks to the minor Bragi will be able to use all available staves (except Valkyrie). Lester, however won't get anything from this paring: he won't have any skills from his father, won't inherit any weapon and will have bad attack and defence stats. He will had a major Bragi blood and the Valkyrie Staff in his inventory, but he will never be able to use it since he is an archer so he can't use staves.
Many Claudain shippers hope that if the game gets a remake, Lester will be able to change to a magic class. There's not many fan content for then due to the fact that the game is old, Japan-only, and they are somewhat obscure characters, not even yet in Heroes, but most Claudain fanfictions center on Lester who feels ashamed for being a bad archer and not being a priest like his parents.
