Claus & Hinawa is the family ship between Claus and Hinawa from the EarthBound fandom.

Canon

Hinawa, Claus and Lucas are spending time at Alec's house. She comes to them while they're outside playing to ask them to come in for lunch. She tells the twins she made omelets, which excites Claus since it's his (and Lucas') favourite food. Inside, Claus asks Hinawa what her favourite food is. She says it's omelets, and Claus says that's theirs as well, so they make a good match. On their walk home through the Sunshine Forest, they are attacked by a Drago. Hinawa tries to protect her sons, but she is killed, and Lucas and Claus are swept away by the stream.

After recovering from the night's ordeal, Claus' first thought is to go up to Drago Plateau and kill the Drago in order to avenge his mom. It ends horribly, and Claus's whereabouts become unknown. He is picked up by the Pigmask Army and turned into the Masked Man.

In the final fight, Hinawa calls Claus's name to reach him through the Masked Man and get him to stop fighting. At first it fails, but eventually she gets through to him. She calls his name repeatedly, and in a warm voice, tells Claus to come to her since he must be so exhausted. Claus comes to his senses and kills himself with a bolt of lightning. He tells Lucas that he's "going to where Mom is now" and gives his final breath.

Fanon

Some like the idea that Claus physically saw Hinawa in some way, not just heard her voice, which helped him to come back. After the flashback of Lucas and Claus' birth, the Masked Man puts his hands over his ears and shuts his eyes, suggesting that he's trying to block out Hinawa's image and voice. Another idea is that Hinawa led Claus to the afterlife, given that she outright tells him to "come to his mother". Some think his mind could have potentially conjured a sunflower fields-type scenario. Once Claus becomes a spirit like Hinawa, they can finally reunite and they spend their time together in the afterlife, watching over Lucas and the world. In addition to seeing Hinawa at the final Needle, some think the Masked Man would have moments where he'd suddenly remember bits about his past relationship with Hinawa, but wouldn't be able to make sense of them.

Alternate Universes include reversals where Hinawa and Claus are the ones who live while Flint dies and Lucas becomes the Masked Man. It is often thought that Claus might not have gotten along with Hinawa as well as Lucas did. With Lucas gone, Hinawa would most likely try to keep Claus safe at home by all means, causing him to feel restricted in the process. Rather than get involved with the Pigmasks while searching for Duster like Lucas, Claus might get involved by accident because he's tired of the way Hinawa is keeping him at home and runs off.
