Claus & Hinawa & Lucas is the family ship between Claus, Hinawa, and Lucas from the EarthBound fandom.

Canon

Hinawa took Claus and Lucas to her father's cabin where they spent some time. On their last day, she comes outside to retrieve the twins to have them come in to eat lunch. She tells them she made their favourite food, omelets, exciting both of them. When Claus asks what her favourite food is, she says it's also omelets.

On their walk back through the Sunshine forest, a fire breaks out and they're attacked by a mechanically altered Drago. Hinawa tries to protect her sons from the Drago and pushes them in the stream so they can escape. Tragically, the Drago kills Hinawa. When Bronson delivers the news, he remarks that Lucas and Claus are probably only safe because Hinawa risked her life for them. Both Lucas and Claus are deeply affected by their mother's death. Claus wants to kill the Drago to avenge Hinawa, and Lucas asks to go with him, but Claus doesn't let him.

In Lucas' final battle with the Masked Man, who is now known to be Claus, Hinawa's voice tries to reach the two of them. She tries to call out to them and remind them that they're brothers so they should stop fighting. Both twins can hear Hinawa's voice, because Claus reacts to her words as much as Lucas. Before Lucas goes to pull the final Needle, Flint tells him that Claus and Hinawa have entrusted fate to him.

Fanon

Some scenarios explored with the three are Hinawa lives AUs. If Hinawa lived instead of Flint, Claus would probably live due to Hinawa becoming incredibly protective over her sons and focusing heavily on their safety. Lucas would continue to be coddled while Claus might begin to feel restricted, and subsequently try to resist her protection and their relationship would become strained. Still though, she would have been there for them, prioritizing their well-being over her own, possibly to her own detriment. In the case that she couldn't stop one of her sons from disappearing, she would probably make sure she took care of her remaining son and not neglect him trying to find the other.

One headcanon for Hinawa is that she actually has PSI and tried to use it to protect her sons from the Drago. If she lived, she could teach the twins how to use their powers. Hinawa might be able to prevent Lucas and Claus from becoming used by the Pigmask Army, but it still wouldn't change the event of the Nowhere Islands and Tazmily being invaded.

It is common for fanart of Hinawa to include Lucas and Claus with her. Also common is the spirits of Hinawa and Claus surrounding Lucas or comforting him. Post-MOTHER 3, Lucas has to cope with losing not only his mother, but also his brother. Fanworks frequently explore Lucas and his journey to accept and cope with their deaths and the trauma. Some think that when Lucas awakened the Dragon, he asked it to bring back Claus and Hinawa to life, whether or not the Dragon actually does fulfil such a request.
