Clifford x Chereath is the het ship between Clifford and Chereath from the Clifford the Big Red Dog fandom.

Canon

Chereath appears exclusively in the Clifford’s Puppy Days animated series episode “Your Secret Valentine.” While visiting the dog park with Emily Elizabeth on Valentine’s Day, Clifford spots Chereath playing with a toy and notes her obvious enjoyment. Clifford learns about the holiday for the first time from two of him friends, and decides that he’d like to make a new friend his Valentine. Chereath catches his eye yet again and he resolves to approach her, which his friend Daffodil encourages.

Unfortunately, Clifford’s other friends soon convince him that he should try to do something impressive to gain Chereath’s admiration before he talks to her. First, he tries to balance a ball on his nose while balancing on a larger one. However, this nearly leads to disaster, and to Clifford’s disappointment Chereath doesn’t witness his performance anyway. Next, his friends suggest that he demonstrate his strength by lifting a bone that’s larger than he is. Clifford is thrilled by the idea, until Daffodil points out that the bone will prevent him from actually talking to Chereath.

Convinced by another friend that his feat will be enough to win Chereath over, Clifford attempts to lift the bone after seeing her approaching. Sadly, he not only isn’t able to lift the bone, but is picked up, carried, and buried with it. Mercifully, Chereath seemingly fails to observe this either, and Daffodil again advises Clifford to just be himself. Instead, Clifford opts to give her a bunch of dog treats that he’s just been given by Emily. Just as he’s nearing her, however, Clifford sees Chereath receive a dog treat of her own from her owner.

Discouraged, Clifford turns and starts walking away, sure he has no chance of impressing Chereath. As he sits sadly, an unfamiliar voice addresses him, asking his name. Despondent, Clifford answers automatically, not initially realizing that it’s Chereath-who introduces herself-who is speaking to him. Much to his surprise and delight, Chereath asks him to be her Valentine and friend, and she is obviously pleased by his excited acceptance. The two then split Chereath’s heart-shaped treat, bumping each other’s noses as they each take hold of it with their teeth.

Clifford admits that he had been wanting to ask Chereath to be his Valentine as well. Chereath is surprised, having seen Clifford occupied at various tasks. When he admits that he was trying to make a good first impression, Chereath assures him that saying hello would have been just fine. The two then wish each other a Happy Valentines Day.

Fanon

Chereath is an extremely obscure character within the Clifford fandom, and fan material featuring her is virtually nonexistent. The ship between her and Clifford also suffers from a number of built in limitations. First, the two met each other as puppies, and their relationship is thus inherently platonic. Second, Clifford’s Puppy Days is a prequel to the Clifford the Big Red Dog animated series, which has Clifford relocate from the city where he meets Chereath to Birdwell Island. This would seem to preclude the possibility of them becoming a romantic couple unless Chereath also ends up relocating to the island.

Finally, there’s the rather obvious factor of Clifford growing to gigantic size. Though Chereath is similar in stature to him as a puppy, there’s little reason to think that she would grow to the same incredible proportions as Clifford. As such, the difference between them might well prove an impediment to any romantic relationship.
