Cloverbox is the femslash ship between Clover and Box from the Inanimate Insanity fandom.
Canon[]
Inanimate Insanity Invitational[]
As The Sinkers fight over Box, the team accidentally flings him up in the air. During this, Test Tube and Cabby get into an argument where the former slips on Goo and causes a hammer she was holding to fly away. The hammer is about to hit Clover until Box flies in the way and gets hit by the hammer instead. Clover gasps as she witnesses Box tumble down a hill, where Box then starts burning upon hitting the ground. This causes Box to have to be sent away on medical leave, pulling her out of the game. As Cabby apologizes for causing this, Test Tube exclaims that Box spared her life to save Clover. Nickel becomes enraged when he finds out Clover caused this, causing Clover to reflect on how others are affected by her gift of luck. She becomes worried that it may actually be a curse.
Before the following challenge, Clover fearfully backs away from Bot and refuses to read the note they're holding. At the Calm Down Cabana, Clover expresses guilt for hurting Box and decides that she'll stay away from everyone she knows and loves. Nickel later angrily calls Clover an awful Box killer during the challenge.
During the finale, both Clover and Box vote for Balloon to win. One of the photos taken during the finale party show Clover, Lifering, and Box hanging out.
Inanimate Insanity IV[]
While Clover and Baseball give a tour of Inanimate Island to local newcomers, Box and the rest of Suitcase's safety authority pull up in front of the tour bus. As Clover stops the bus for them, the group explain the importance of preventing death as Box shares her experience within being stuck in the MeAfterlife.
Behind the Scenes[]
When asked about the ship by a fan on Twitter before Box was alive, director Brian Koch simply wrote, "I'm fascinated".[1]
Fanon[]
Cloverbox is a rarepair in the Inanimate Insanity fandom. The ship began to pick up in posts years following their initial interactions in Inanimate Insanity Invitational, even before Box's sentience was later revealed in the series. Content of the two mainly revolved around how the contestants' saw Box's plunge as a sacrifice towards Clover's life, leaving ideas such as the guilt that followed Clover afterwards. Shippers usually saw the fun in paring Clover with an inanimate Box at the time similar to a cargo ship. After Box's sentience was revealed, the pairing in the fandom gained a new perspective, especially within fans of yuri rarepairs of the show.
On AO3, as of October 13, 2025, the ship has 3 works under its platonic tag. It is currently the 4th most written ship for Box on the site.
