Canon[]

Backstory[]

Asgore is the king of monsters in the Underground. He was peaceful until his children went to the surface and the humans killed them. After that, he made a law that every human who fell into the Underground must die. He wanted to collect seven souls so that with their help he could open the barrier that holds the monsters under Mount Ebott. For a long time, monsters have been collecting the souls of children who fell there. All of them are kept in special flasks in Asgore's castle, and their corpses are in coffins in the basement.

Neutral Route[]

The fact that the children, including the owner of the yellow soul, were killed by Asgore is mentioned several times. At the beginning, Toriel says this when she says that everyone who fell here died sooner or later, she even tries to delay Frisk so that they do not suffer the same fate. The fallen children are also mentioned by Undyne, who said that none of the Humans passed by Asgore. Ultimately, Frisk sees a yellow soul among the others that Asgore has captured. After the battle, Flowey kills the king and steals the souls, absorbing them and becoming Omega Flowey. Frisk defeats him and later, through a phone call, the monsters inform them about the death of the king and the disappearance of human souls.

True Pacifist Route[]

The human and monster souls were absorbed by Flowey, who used them to transform into his base form to defeat Frisk. During this, the main character convinces him that there is another way and helps him change his views. Frisk frees his friends, including Asgore, and after that, Asriel frees the others, including the owner of the yellow soul. When Frisk awakens, the king was among those who were present during this and supports them. Frisk can go into the basement and see that the coffins containing the dead children are now open.

Genocide Route[]

Undyne, while dying at the hands of Frisk, tells them that Asgore will absorb the souls of people, including the yellow one. She is sure that with this power, the king will be able to stop them and this world will continue to live. However, when they arrive at the castle, they see that Asgore has not done so. Flowey tried to convince him to do this, but before he could, Frisk killed them both.

Fanon[]

Undertale Yellow[]

“Clover... what a lovely name...”
— Asgore said when he saw Clover in person.

Neutral Route[]

Clover often hears from Flowey that Asgore must be perceived as a threat that they must eliminate together if Clover wants to leave the underground and return home. However, it turns out that Flowey was helping Clover all this time only to make sure that they would reach Asgore and he would capture their soul, so that after some time, when another human fell here, Flowey could fulfill his plan.

Pacifist Route[]

If Clover kills Ceroba, Clover and Martlet will continue to the castle. Martlet will try her best to convince Asgore to let Clover live, but they will be prompted with dialogue options that inevitably cause her to leave them and Asgore to their business. After this, Asgore will give Clover a monologue similar to that which was given to Frisk in Undertale. However, upon reaching the barrier and revealing the human SOULS to Clover, they aim their weapon at Asgore. Asgore will comment on how tense Clover appears and laments one final time how grim the situation is, before a fight that can't be won initiates. Upon Clover's defeat, their SOUL is seen being contained and the last words they hear from Asgore: "Rest well, young one." "I am sorry."

Genocide Route[]

Clover confronts Asgore in the throne room. He attempts to kill Clover to rebuild the Underground and take their soul, but his trident is shattered by hitting Clover's soul, due to its power. Clover then takes the chance to vaporize him with their SOUL's laser beam ability. They seemingly absorb Asgore's SOUL (a process described possible back in Undertale) to cross the Barrier and release the 5 human SOULS. They are seen walking through the barrier as the 5 human SOULS float around them, before the credits roll.

Other interpretations[]

Some people like to think about how their relationship might have turned out if Clover had lived. Asgore could host them and they could become closer. It is a popular interpretation that the coffins in Undertale's Pacifist route are empty because the deceased humans came back to life, thereby Asgore has a chance to make amends to them, including Clover.
