CoAi is the het ship between Shinichi Kudo (Conan Edogawa) and Shiho Miyano (Ai Haibara) from the Detective Conan fandom.

Canon

Since birth, Shiho was a member of a mysterious criminal organization that tried to eliminate the young detective Shinichi Kudo, using a substance she invented, the APTX4869. Members of the organization, including her, searched Shinichi's home to ascertain his death. The girl, however, during the second search, realizes that his clothes from when he was a child had disappeared and since one of the laboratory test rats on which she had tested the substance had happened to rejuvenate, she correctly deduces that Shinichi was rejuvenated into a child again.

The first meeting between Conan and Ai.

However, the scientist decides not to divulge her hypotheses to her accomplices and when the Organization eliminates her sister, she decides to betray the group and assuming the APTX4869 she becomes a child again. She thus takes refuge in the Kudo house, hoping for the help of Shinichi (who has long since assumed the identity of Conan Edogawa) and runs into one of the few people who know Conan's secret, Dr. Agasa to whom she tells everything. Shortly thereafter, the girl and the professor create a pseudonym for her Ai Haibara, who enrolls in Conan's school. Ai Haibara immediately sits next to Conan and knowing that he is there too, she accepts the offer to join the group of Detective Boys. The group, at the request of a school friend, begins to investigate the disappearance of a high school student.

Convinced that behind there is the mysterious organization that made him become a child again, Conan tries to send his friends away and investigate with an excuse, but Ai sees through the trick and so the children follow him. Eventually the group manages to find the kidnappers ... but it turns out they were simply a gang of counterfeiters.

Conan discovers that Ai is a member of the Organization

Conan is surprised by the little girl's ability to use the gun. But when she is scolded by Inspector Megure and she starts crying he tells himself that she is still a child. Conan is annoyed at having to take Ai home, but as soon as they are alone, the brunette reveals that she was the creator of the substance that made him rejuvenate, and that she knows that he is actually Shinichi Kudo. Finding out that she is in the Organization by the name of Sherry, and that she too is rejuvenated by the substance and declaring that Dr. Agasa is dead, Conan becomes frightened and curses her ... only to discover shortly after that Ai he just made fun of. Later the doctor tells him the whole story.

Ai states that since they are in the same situation, Conan can understand her, but he claims he does not identify with a criminal thing that appears to hurt the brunette. Conan eventually decides to let her live with Dr. Agasa, but despite her being the creator of the substance, she cannot create an antidote without data.

Conan decides to ally with Ai.

However, a floppy disk she sent to her sister may contain what they need, so the two go with Agasa to retrieve it. The two immediately start making fun of each other and the detective does not trust the scientist.

Unfortunately, when they arrive at the house of the man to whom Ai's sister had sent the disk, they find him dead. The two suspect the Organization, but then Ai becomes convinced that it was an accident and tries to persuade Conan that it is so, but the confidence with which he claims that this is a murder disguised as an accident, displaces her.

Ai opens up to Conan for the first time.

Eventually Conan proves it was murder, to Ai's amazement. Shortly after, Ai bursts into tears asking Conan how it is possible that one with his deductive skills did not save her sister Akemi, a robber killed by the same man who made Conan rejuvenate, Gin, whom he had met shortly after becoming a child again. The girl bursts into tears on Conan's chest screaming because and the brunette thinks that for the first time Ai has shown him her true face.

Eventually the recovered floppy disk is found to be unusable due to a virus and Ai comments that she and Conan will have to see each other for a long time to come.

Conan convinces Ai to watch the game.

However, Conan stops considering her a criminal and when the Detective Boys go to watch a national team football match, Ai makes fun of Conan for his passion for watching the game. The brunette remains on the sidelines, for fear that a camera will film her, since the organization knew what she looked like as a child, but wanting her to enjoy the game too, Conan gives her his hat and takes her by the hand to the stands.

Ai reveals her age to Conan.

Watching the game Conan comments that Ai never gets upset for any reason and tells her that he was ashamed to death to go back to elementary school, but that she seemed very calm. The girl replies that it was because she knew that he was in the class too, who was in the same situation as her. The scientist then thinks that Kudo is at the center of the project that the organization has been carrying out for more than half a century, but she does not talk about it with the detective. Conan later asks Ai how old she really is. As a joke, she tells him that she is much older than she is, but the speech falls because a bomber threatens to blow up the stadium. Eventually Conan manages to get the bomber arrested and Ai tells him she's eighteen, just one older than him and says she's just perfect for him. This is a playful flirtation that will become a habit between the two.

The Detective Boys for a series of circumstances are housed in a castle and Haibara declares that Conan is the only one able to find him. When the friend mysteriously disappears, Haibara is the first to deduce that he may be in trouble. Eventually Conan, rescued by another friend of theirs Mitshuiko and manages to stop a multiple murderer from killing Haibara and the other girl from the Ayumi group.

Ai falls asleep leaning on Conan.

The Detective Boys go to the cinema and find themselves watching movies of the monster Gomera, which Conan has already seen when he was really a child. Ai urges him to try to enjoy the movies anyway, so that he can rest his brain a little. However, the three films do six hours of screening, heavy for children and during the second film, Ai and Ayumi fall asleep resting their heads on Conan's shoulders. Ayumi is really a little girl, so the brunette is not embarrassed, but when Ai leans her head on his shoulder he is embarrassed.

Ai confides in Conan.

Shortly after a murder is committed and Ai comments that even that day Conan will not be able to relax, certain that he will want to solve the case. Shortly after while I'm in the bathroom Ai comments that she shivers every time she passes in front of a mirror that sends her back to her as a child and asks Conan if that's the case for him too. Conan reminds her that it was her concoction that she fell this way and Ai admits her responsibility by apologizing and noting that she must be heavy for someone like Conan struggling to find out the truth, being forced to lie to anyone. Ai's words make Conan understand the trick used by the murderer and he runs to do his checks thanking her. Soon after Conan solves the case.

Conan tries to reassure Ai.

Ai has a terrible nightmare about Organization members and is still visibly distraught at school the next day. Conan notices it and as they return to their houses he tells her that she must not think that she is better than she disappears so as not to endanger the children and tells her that he will take care of protecting her.

Soon after Conan and Ai come across a black Porsche 356 A and Ai says that Gin (the Organization member who gave Conan the APTX4869) owns that kind of car. Since it is an uncommon model, Conan correctly deduces that this is Gin's car and after having broken into it he puts a bug in it and the two begin to tail Gin and his partner Vodka from a distance in Doctor Agasa's car.

Ai finds that they are doing something too dangerous, but Conan continues with the chase and discovers that the Organization plans to have a person killed by a member of theirs that Ai does not know, Pisco. Unfortunately Gin finds the bug and destroys it and found a hair of Ai, he deduces that it was she who placed it. Conan has at least discovered the place of the murder and decides to listen to Ai's suggestion and stop the chase, but to try to prevent the killer, even if he does not intend to take the scientist with him.

Conan gives his glasses to Ai.

In the end, however, Ai learned that Gin plans to use the substance she created decides to accompany her friend (who did not want to take it with him because he thought it was too dangerous for her) saying that it is his responsibility to have created that stuff and that she doesn't want Conan to consider her a killer again. But Ai is frozen in terror and Conan learns of her nightmare and the fact that he and the other Detective Boys have been eliminated by Gin in it, gives her his glasses to disguise her and tries to comfort her. Ai so calms down.

Ai tries to take Conan away.

The murder succeeds, and Ai tries to take Conan away as the arrived cops may recognize them and in any case the situation is dangerous, but Conan convinces her that he can locate the culprit. To drag his friend away, Ai takes him by the hand which will become a habit between the two in moments of danger. Shortly after, however, Haibara is kidnapped.

Conan manages to get in touch with her via the microphone and headphones plugged into the glasses he lent her.

Ai tries to help Conan by believing it to be her last act.

Ai realizes that she must have been kidnapped by Pisco and Conan looks very worried. The scientist begins to explain to Conan how the APTX4869 works because she is sure that by now the Organization has identified it and that therefore even if she manages to escape, she will not be able to stay with the professor anymore, and continue to help Conan and therefore decides to give all possible information to the friend. Conan, however, manages to buy her time and makes her drink Paikal, a Chinese liqueur that has the ability to temporarily (and only once) reverse the effects of APTX4869. Ai manages to download data on the substance from Pisco's PC, and tells Conan that when the Organization takes her away, he can take the disk, but the detective tells her it won't happen.

Using her adult body, Shiho manages to reach the roof through the chimney of a chimney, but unfortunately she finds Gin waiting for her and shoots her, luckily only wounding her. Conan arrives just in time to hit Gin in the back with an anesteric needle and thanks to her diversion, Shiho manages to escape by throwing herself back into the fireplace. Unfortunately, Pisco returns to the room just after Ai becomes a child again and Conan has to save her from him too, and succeeds. Luckily, shortly afterwards Gin kills Pisco to punish him for having sloppily committed the murder and leaving evidence of his guilt and does not discover that Shiho is back as a child.

Ai shows a certain dislike for Ran Mori, a girl in love with Shinichi and reciprocated by him, probably out of jealousy. At one point she points out to Conan that Ran (with whom he lives) may suspect his true identity. A short time later, during a camping trip, Conan is injured by a shot fired by some criminals and must be operated on as a matter of urgency. Ran, knowing he has the same blood type as Shinichi, offers to give it to Conan for a transfusion.

Ai makes fun of Conan.

Conan at this point is persuaded that his childhood friend has unmasked him and decides to reveal the truth, but in the middle of the night, Haibara joins him and points a gun to his temple. Ai declares that the Organization found her and that they agreed to take her back from each other as long as she eliminates Shinichi whose survival they discovered and that she had to accept to save at least Agasa taken hostage. At that point the little girl shoots ... and it turns out it was a toy gun. Ai points out to her friend that if she revealed the truth to Ran she would make her a target of the Organization and that they could really be in such a situation or even worse.

Ai passes herself off as Conan to protect Shinichi's cover.

Fortunately, Ai manages to create a prototype antidote to APTX4869 and administers it to Shinichi who returns to his true age, while she disguises herself as Conan, so the two manage to keep the detective's cover.

Ai is happy that Shinichi was unable to express his feelings to Ran.

Shinichi takes advantage of the situation to take Ran out to dinner, but a murder occurs at the restaurant and he goes to solve it. He succeeds, but the antidote takes away his effect. Ai follows him and brings him suitable clothes. Shortly thereafter Conan begs Ai to give him another dose of the antidote, but she refuses saying it could even be deadly for him to take another dose and Conan says he would tell Ran what he intended to tell her (presumably a declaration of love) if he knew the antidote wouldn't work well. Later the Detective Boys go to the pool except Conan who is recovering from the cold. The children notice that Ai is in a good mood probably because Shinichi was unable to declare himself to Ran.

The Detective Boys go to the mountains to look for mushrooms, and one of them Genta leaves, ending up in a hunting area. The others then split up to look for it, and Conan advises Ai to be careful, as it is not uncommon in Japan for hunters to kill people looking for herbs by mistaking them for prey. Haibara smiles in amusement thanking Conan and asking her if he cares about her. Genta is soon found, but Ai and Mitsuhiko while looking for him come across a dead body and discover that the killer has joined their group and two other hunters. Haibara leaves some clues to her friend certain that she will decipher them as indeed happens. It is later revealed that Conan knows both Ai's real name, Shiho Myano, as well as her Organization code name, Sherry, although he never calls her that. Only Ai could have revealed them to her, which is proof of her trust in the detective.

Conan checks Ai for an unusual scent.

While on a bus to go on a mountain trip, Ai and Conan talk about the men in black and Ai claims he can recognize them by smell. Conan doesn't believe it and as a joke he sniffs her, but shortly after, Ai really senses the presence of a member of the Organization and terrified of her she begs her friend to help her hide. Later the bus is hijacked. Conan asks Ai for help, but she is too scared to reason and she terrified she reaches to grab his hand to reassure herself, a sign that Conan's proximity makes her feel safe.

Conan discovers that the hijackers intend to blow up the bus with all the passengers after freeing one of their accomplice from jail. He manages to foil their plan, but there is no time to take the bomb away, so the passengers must escape before the explosion.

Ai, however, remains on the bus, since when she was to testify she would find herself in front of the member of the Organization who got on the bus and would be unmasked, so she decides to sacrifice herself to save the professor and the Detective Boys. However, thanks to their friends, Conan notices Ai's absence and returns to the bus to save her at the risk of his own life, breaking a glass and picking her up by jumping out of the bus just before it explodes.

To prevent Ai from being called to testify, Conan who has injured his arm spreads his blood on the girl's leg and says that he cannot go and testify because she is injured, proposing to go there for her. Before Haibara is taken away, the detective tells her to stop running away. Smiling Ai thinks that Conan has returned the favor of keeping her cover.

Haibara blushes when Conan tells her to keep smiling.

After the accident Ai remains scared and worried and tries to get out of the house as little as possible. Professor Agasa hardly convinces her to get out of her and asks Conan to cheer her up. Conan tries to reassure her by saying that as she has his nose, he has a detective instinct that makes him understand if someone has bad intentions, but he has not perceived anyone who had the will to harm her and that therefore if there was a member Organization on the bus, he only passed them by chance. Ai seems to believe it and later after she is cheered up by a dog Conan tells her to keep smiling, telling her that she looks just like a little girl and Ai looks embarrassed.

Professor Agasa takes the Detective Boys on a seaside trip to Izu and by pure chance they meet Ran and Sonoko there.

Ai indirectly tells that she doesn't feel up to Ran.

Ai thus witnesses the affection that Shinichi feels for Ran and not wanting to leave him alone with the girl, he stays close to him until he gets a sunstroke. When she is placed in the shade to recover she hints through a metaphor that she is convinced she cannot compete with Ran, but Conan does not understand.

When Conan and the others are slow to return, Haibara correctly deduces that they have stumbled upon a case and brings Conan the bow tie to change his voice so that he can solve it by pretending to be the professor.

On Valentine's Day, Shinichi manages to get the chocolate that Ran made for him and some time later the girl gives the Detective Boys some chocolate in the shape of their faces. Looking at the expression on the chocolate faces she deduces that Ran was very sad when she cooked, because she misses Shinichi. Looking at the chocolate that represents her, Ai thinks that sometimes she holds back her tears so as not to make it clear that she is sad, perhaps because she is sorry to see another proof of love between Shinichi and Ran.

Conan immediately suspects the Organization is behind it, but says nothing to Ai and Agasa. When the girl comments that it is something he wants to keep to himself, Conan replies that she often behaves the same way and she admits that it does. Ai thinks that she once believed that Conan's sense of justice drove him to seek the truth, without thinking about the consequences, but that by now she has understood, that his friend tries to keep the weight of their troubles all to himself so as not to hurt. none and that this is a feature that makes it fascinating. Hearing this Haibara smiles, perhaps thinking that if Shinichi gives up Ran, there will be more chances for her to conquer him.

Ai tells Conan that she is counting on him.

Returning from the stadium, the Detective Boys talk about a footballer who has moved from team to team and Haibara compares their situations, commenting that she would like to get away which seems to worry Conan. Conan, after solving a case, fears that Ai may take a train to escape and start a new life. Worried he rushes to the first departing train and yells her name to hold her back, before realizing she is behind him.

Haibara asks him why he screamed, reminding him that he was the one who convinced her not to run away and adds "You will protect me, right?", Before sarcastically stating that she is not as weak as he thinks she is.

Later the Detective Boys run into a former member of the Organization, and to her surprise, Ai cannot sense his presence.

Conan is happy that Ai is getting used to leading a normal existence.

After a while, the scientist confides in Conan what happened, and tells him that she is losing the ability to perceive the members of the Organization, because she is getting used to leading a normal life. Ai seems sorry about this, because hers was a useful skill, but Conan comforts her by telling her that she has finally become a normal person. Ai seems surprised that his friend sees her like this, since he had asked her why she hadn't noticed anything.

This shows that the detective cares more for the scientist's well-being than for his goals.

Conan thinks it's impossible for Ai to be attracted to him.

Some time later Yukiko (Shinichi's mother who knows about her son's transformation and Ai's true identity) takes the Detective Boys to watch a test screening of the new Kamen Yaiba film. Yukiko notices that Ai often stares at Conan and deduces that she is in love with him. Her son, to whom she confides her hypothesis, immediately denies it, but Yukiko states that if a girl stares at a boy it is because his face is dirty or because she is in love with him. Conan, however, does not seem convinced. The Detective Boys, however, spend the night outside and at night Conan and Ai remain awake and the former says he has to ask her something. Ai seems embarrassed, but when he asks her if his face is dirty she appears confused.

Conan reassures Haibara.

Haibara later realizes that someone is following them, but Conan reassures her that for the moment they have lost their pursuers.

The girl fears it is the Organization and out of fear she catches the flu. Conan goes to visit her and decides to take her to a doctor, but as it is Sunday they struggle to find one available and plan to use the one in the department stores. In the parking lot Ai sees a Porsche like Gin's, but Conan points out that it is green and not black like the criminal's, but he understands her anxiety and also justifies it with Agasa.

When, after solving a murder case, he no longer sees the latter or Ai, Conan becomes worried, but discovers that after speaking on the phone with a doctor they know, the professor brought her home. This doctor will then visit Ai. Conan then goes to visit his friend to see how she is and she is happy with his thoughtfulness.

Ran also goes to visit the little girl, but she pretends to sleep until she leaves and when Conan asks her why she doesn't answer, but she thinks that Conan just doesn't understand, but that she herself doesn't want to make him understand. Shortly afterwards Agasa claims to have located an old friend of Ai's father and the latter insists on going to see him even though she has not yet recovered. The man has no useful information, but the two "children" understand that Akemi, Ai's sister, must have hidden something important in the graphic studio located in her parents' old house, where Ai's father's friend works.

However, the man is murdered, but even if it becomes clear that the Organization has infiltrated the graphic studio, Conan understands that the murder was the work of one of the employees who wanted revenge on the boss who ruined his career. Conan eventually finds what Akemi has hidden, but it turns out they are simple cassette tapes on which Elena Miyano recorded messages for her daughter. Not knowing this, Ai worries that Conan will learn something that puts him in even more danger, but as soon as he finds out what's on the tapes she immediately stops listening and apologizes to Haibara for what he heard.

Subsequently, FBI agent Jodie Starling proposes to Ai to enter the witness protection program, but that program implies that one must change one's name and nationality and can no longer contact relatives and friends, so Ai who for the first time intertwined bonds with other people refuses, wanting to stay with Conan, the other Detective Boys and Agasa.

Some time later the group goes fishing at the seaside, and when Ai asks the professor why he brought them there, Conan replies that the professor wanted an alternative to their usual camping in the mountains (an activity the Detective Boys practice quite frequently), but Haibara replies that she knows very well that it was his idea to entice her too, since she has recently avoided any group outings due to fear of the organization and that unlike the mountain, the sea offers a perfect view and therefore it would be very difficult to organize an attack on her there. Conan is annoyed that she understood everything and his frustration increases when the girl says that she is not interested, but the professor says that she is actually happy to be there and we see her smiling, perhaps also grateful for her friend's thoughtfulness. Eventually Ai catches a fish, but since it's small she throws it back into the water and Conan explains to her that in the future she should cool her hand in the bucket of water, because the heat of the human body is too high for fish and risks weakening them.

Ai reflects on her affection for the Detective Boys and Agasa.

When he returns, the detective tells the scientist that despite everything that happened (having stumbled upon an attempted murder case), it was a nice trip and she agrees, saying that she understood how fish feel. Conan doesn't understand what he means, but Ai thinks that the human warmth she has surrounded herself with for the first time in her life, may burn her like physical warmth does to fish, since she is becoming more and more attached to all of them, which is why she refused the FBI's protection.

Later Conan discovers the phone number of the boss of the organization and talks to the professor. He assures him that he has not made calls or sent messages to that number, but tells him that he will do so after asking Officer Takagi (a policeman friend of theirs) to find out who it belongs to, but Ai hears them and points out that if Takagi starts investigating their boss, the organization will kill him and then try to find out who commissioned the investigation and they will get to them.

Agasa replies that they could explain everything to the police in its entirety and deal with the problem with due force, but Haibara wisely points out that this is impossible; if the case that led Conan to find that number and related email address (in Japan every cell phone is associated with an email address) were still fresh, it would be different, but too much time has passed now and only Takagi, who knows them and trusts them, would give credence to their story.

Ai tells Conan and Agasa to forget about the boss's email address.

Conan immediately gives up on his plans and his friend immediately urges him to forget about that number, telling him that it's like Pandora's box. The detective asks her if she doesn't already know the address and who it belongs to, but she simply answers "Who knows."

Later, the famous journalist Rena Mizunashi hires Kogoro, Ran's father, because she believes she is being stalked by a stalker. Conan leaves a bug in front of her door and it ends up under her shoe and Conan discovers that she is a member of the organization. If the organization discovered the bug, they would suspect Kogoro since he was the last one to have anything to do with Rena and would eliminate everyone close to him (Ran and also Conan who lives with them).

Conan immediately asks for the professor's help and is not happy that he is bringing Ai, who has discovered what happened, because he fears for her safety. The three of them, while tailing Rena, discover that the organization is planning a murder. Luckily, the FBI was also investigating Rena and the trio can collaborate with them. Conan realizes that Ai is becoming more determined to face the organization, but she replies that she is worried about her own safety, even if in reality she is getting tired of running away.

Conan lends his hat to Haibara.

Ai and the professor later abandon the case and she reminds Conan that recovering the bug must be his priority and that he risks losing everything otherwise and he admits that she is right. In the end, fortunately, the situation is resolved and Rena ends up in a coma and is hospitalized and kept under observation by the FBI. Despite this, Conan and Ai remain on guard for a while, so much so that to hide his face while they walk down the street Conan gives her his hat.

When their teacher involves them in a game of deduction and Ai has to guide the other children to solve it (Conan was called out with an excuse, because the teacher feared that he would solve everything by himself right away, without allowing the other children to socialize), Ai begins to understand what situation he is in, when he has to guide someone else to solve a case.

Some time later Conan shares with Ai his suspicions that Eisuke Hondo, Ran's new classmate, is part of the Organization, however he admits that he is not entirely convinced and from their discussion, it emerges that Conan talks to Ai even about cases in which she is not directly involved or that do not concern their enemies.

Later Conan meets and allies himself with Shuichi Akai, an FBI agent who had infiltrated the organization and had a relationship with Akemi, Shiho's sister, initially to extort information from her, then he had really fallen in love with her and this was one of the reasons that pushed the organization to eliminate Akemi. Very surprised by the discovery of this, he decides not to tell Ai anything, because he fears that it would upset her. However, when he discovers that Rena Mizunashi is an undercover CIA agent and that Eisuke is her brother who was looking for her, he tells Haibara about it without any problems.

Haibara doesn't like Okiya,

Some time later, the Detective Boys discover that their schoolmate Kaito Sugiura's house has mysteriously burned down. Haibara is afraid of the residents of the building because she senses that one of them is part of the Organization and eventually becomes convinced that it is Subaru Okiya. Conan and Subaru seem to get along thanks to their shared passion for Sherlock Holmes and after Conan solves the case, Okiya asks Professor Agasa if he can stay at his house until he finds another place to live, offering to help Agasa with his research in his free time. Agasa agrees, as long as Haibara agrees as well, but she adamantly refuses. Conan intervenes by offering Shinichi's house, and ignores Haibara's concerns that the Organization might find out through Okiya that Shinichi is still alive by simply saying, "A Holmes fan can't be a bad person!" Although shocked, the scientist does not protest.

Conan tells Haibara that he only saw her butt.

Some time later Conan accidentally sees Ai naked. Later when his friends are in danger of finding out that he is solving the case by pretending to be Dr. Agasa, she makes up an excuse and when he thanks her, she says that she won't let anyone peek at him like he did. Conan quickly clarifies that he only saw her butt and this embarrasses her. Shortly after, while continuing his deduction, Conan states that the murderer gave himself away when he entered the women's bathroom, because he knew that there were only little girls inside (Ai and Ayumi) and that even if an adult sees a little girl without clothes, there is no problem.

Ai gets angry at Conan's comments.

Still having the modesty of an adult, Haibara gets very angry and so she plays a prank on Conan, putting chili pepper in his underwear so she can see him naked and even the score.

After hearing that Conan had been (presumably) kidnapped, Haibara rushes to make a plan with Agasa to save him. When Subaru overhears the conversation and offers to be her driver, Haibara, although she feels terrified of him, agrees to ride with him.

The organization discovers that Sherry was hiding in Gunma and is about to travel on the Bell Tree Express, a train owned by the Suzuki family that has a special mystery on board and decides to eliminate her during the trip. However, a real murder occurs on the train, but Conan actually suspected the danger and enlists the help of his mother and Kaito Kid (a masked thief with whom he regularly clashes) to protect Ai.

Ai is annoyed that Conan kept important information from her.

After the Bell-Tree Express incident, a visibly angry Haibara asks why she was left out of Conan's plans. Despite accepting Conan and Dr. Agasa's explanations, Haibara continues to be annoyed. Professor Agasa comments that Haibara is a tsundere, (a person who appears tough, but is actually sweet) and Conan sarcastically asks what is sweet about their friend.

When he later discovers that he has unknowingly stumbled upon two members of the organization, the detective becomes very worried and rushes to check on the scientist's condition.

Conan asks her friend for an antidote to APTX 4869 so he can go on a school trip to Kyoto with his entire class, but Haibara refuses because he almost got caught the two previous times he used the antidotes. Conan tries to cajole her in every way, but she understands and ignores him. Eventually he goes to great lengths to get her phone pendant, even jumping into the sea to retrieve it, and when he succeeds, he ruins it. Conan's efforts eventually move Haibara, who agrees to give him temporary antidotes (but not without pulling his ear and sternly reminding him to follow her instructions to the letter). In addition to the usual rules, Haibara made it clear to Conan not to do anything too intimate while he was Shinichi again. When Conan asked in confusion what that meant, the girl blushed and didn't continue with her explanation.

CoAi is a very popular ship within the Detective Conan fandom, with ShinRan being its main rival. Many fans think Ran is too incompatible with Shinichi due to the disinterest in mysteries and constantly getting into quarrels with him. Meanwhile, Shiho/Ai seems to have taken in Shinichi's crime solving and is more understanding of his methods.
