CoreStrings is the non-binary ship between between the Red Soul/Player and W.D Gaster from the Undertale and Deltarune fandom.

In Undertale we have the chance on encountering who is believed to be Gaster himself in Waterfall.
Deltarune[]
As of writing this, Gaster himself has yet to make a direct appearance or as a direct Easter egg appearance that isn't alluding to being him for the Player to find in Deltarune.
But just like in Undertale, if you try to name yourself, or the vessel in Deltarune's case, as "Gaster/GASTER," the game will reset to the title screen, effectively ending the current gameplay session and returning the player to the beginning of the introduction.
Fanon[]
The ship was technically always kinda a popular one if we include all of the Gaster/Reader fancontent made before and now, but it only was able to become a "true" ship when Deltarune came out, especially during the Chapter 3 & 4 release. So many shippers see the ship as an opportunity to have an in-game self-insert ship towards Gaster, as with every other Red Soul ship. But a small select few like the ship in a Stanarrator and Billford way instead of in a self-ship way.
The concept of Gaster holding or having a red soul near him was always a common choice in his fan art before the ship.
Since many theorize that the person who is talking in the beginning and in the game over screen to be Gaster. This is used to portray Gaster as someone who is lonely and wants company that seemingly only we can really provide when we boot up the game. This often sparks third-wall breaks into the ship, as many associate Gaster with being a character who knows he is in a video game. Thus, the usage of the "connection" quotes in CoreStrings fan art along with comedic portals of Gaster acting swooned and attracted to the Player, even calling us angel or dear, all the while we act more bluntly with our words as with us being literally us.
Or in short it is believed that Gaster made the Deltarune game all for us the Player to engage in.
With the Player only being shown in the form of Kris' soul it's common for fans to portray the soul as how a fan would act or how they would act around seeing Gaster, usually having Gaster be their "malewife" to the Player's "girl bossing" or as the Player's "trophy wife" especially in the sense on if Gaster ever does make a direct appearance in the game, even more so if he is important to the plot as what many fans hope to see for the character. It is assumed that in-lore the Player is aware of Undertale and has also seemingly played it, so both shippers and non-shippers like to extend this to where the beginning and death screen is also Gaster talking, making them be presented as a team of sorts in ship content. Comedic works have the soul react to Easter eggs that are commonly believed to be of a Gaster Easter egg. Occasionally, having Mike appear alongside them, often as a "friend" group or with Mike being their "pet" of sorts, since Mike is often drawn as that one cat design. Or rarely the Roaring Knight is alongside the ship.
During the event of the "we need to kill Sans" storm after fans witness the Soriel dance in Chapter 4, shippers of CoreStrings like to joke about having the Player sleep with Sans' "dad" as payback.
The Players' fan-made form usually consists of design elements from the red soul or directly having the red soul be the head and/or heart, maybe combined with an angel design if the shipper believes in the "the Player is the angel" theory, so the two can have a more visually obvious cosmic dynamic or with the Player wearing a lab coat to contrast the theory that Gaster was one of the Royal Scientists in Undertale. While others have the Discarded Vessel be the player or as their child. But just having the canon design of Kris' soul, with or without it having tiny arms and legs, is a more common choice in the ship's content, especially outside of the ship's content.
More often than not, the Player is presented with having more control or power compared to Gaster; either way, this would add a power dynamic appeal to some. Possibly even a toxic dynamic appeal to others.
Overall what with the ship being more recent, dating back to December and only popping off around June, it is still only decently sized in the fandom as of now but it is expected to grow more when the future chapters come out.
