Shortly after the release of Five Nights at Freddy's 4, the fandom gave the Crying Child the name "Chris", short for "Christopher Afton". There were also some uncommon alternates like "Norman". This was especially common by the Gacha life/club side of FNAF's fanbase.
A bit later, the name "Evan Afton" became more popular, due to some hidden text in the official Survial Logbook spelling out "E V A N". However, when the theorists who originally deduced this admitted that it probably wasn't the intended answer, fans took a liking to that name and it stuck.
