DKBanjo is the slash ship between Donkey Kong and Banjo from the Super Smash Bros. fandom.
Canon[]
For starters, Banjo's character originated in Diddy Kong Racing, alongside Conker, the two characters proved to be so popular that they would receive their own spin-offs by Rare called Banjo-Kazooie and Conker's Bad Fur Day. According to the manual of Diddy Kong Racing, Diddy met Banjo and Conker while adventuring with Donkey Kong.
Both Banjo and Donkey Kong are protagonists of Rare games. They're both fairly big animals, Banjo is a honey bear, Donkey Kong is a gorilla. They both wear one article of clothing: Donkey Kong has his trademark red tie, while Banjo wears a pair of yellow shorts with belt (Kazooie's backpack doesn't count). They're both larger-than-life characters, though Banjo tends to go with the flow, while Donkey Kong appears to be something of a hedonist. They're both heroic, though Banjo is an easygoing soul, Donkey Kong has a temper when people mess with his friends or his food. Finally, they're both often seen with a sidekick riding on their backs.
In Banjo's reveal trailer, Donkey Kong is asleep in house, with Diddy Kong and King K. Rool, he's suddenly awoken by a Jiggy jumping through his house and out of the window. Waking his friend and "guest", they all go to the window to see what's outside. They then promptly break the window when they see the silhouette of a bird. But when the silhouette of a bear and bird turns out to be Duck Hunt pulling a prank on them, Donkey Kong's jaw drops along with the others. But then the real bear and bird fall out of the sky, and when Banjo & Kazooie knock Duck Hunt out by falling on them, Donkey Kong cheers alongside his own best friend and worst enemy. Banjo & Kazooie then engage in a friendly fight against Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong. When King K. Rool is crushed like Grunthilda, Donkey Kong is among the pre-N64 era Smashers, celebrating that Banjo and Kazooie are home at last.
In Banjo & Kazooie's Classic Mode "Perfect Partners", Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong are their sixth opponents.
Fanon[]
DKBanjo is a rarepair (no pun intended), so much so that there's actually very little fanwork for it. It still has its fans for its historical significance, but people are far more likely to depict them as being in a friend group with Diddy and Kazooie than to ship them with each other.
People have been clamoring for an official crossover between Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong Country for years, so people are very happy that Smash finally brought them back together.
