DaeJu is the het ship between Cho Hyun-ju and Kang Dae-ho from the Squid Game fandom.
Canon[]
The two met each other during the survival killing game and interact for the first time during the third game, Mingle, in which they are seen to be together in some of the rounds. After they successfully claimed a room with a group of ten, they are seen standing together. When the amount of players is called out to be six in the forth round, Dae-ho holds Hyun-ju after Myung-gi pushes her back into the room from her attempt at saving Young-mi. After she tried to open the door to get to Young-mi, she starts blaming Myung-gi for her death. After Myung-gi stands up for himself and Jun-hee agrees with him, Dae-ho agrees with her statement as well and mentions how little time there was left.
During the rebellion against the guards, players are running out of ammunition and Hyun-ju volunteers to go look for more. However, Dae-ho suggests he does it instead. Thus, Hyun-ju tells him that she broke the cameras on their way to the control room, telling him to follow them. She also gives him her weapon, suggesting that there might be more soldiers out there. He thanks her and leaves while she covers for him.
When Dae-ho doesn't come back and Hyun-ju calls him, he doesn't answer and drops the radio as Hyun-ju is begging for an answer. A player makes a remark about how they won't be able to go for longer as they need ammo. She then says she will go check, suggesting that something might've happened. Before she enters the dorms she notices that his radio is on the floor, and after her entrance she starts calling for Dae-ho, asking where he is. Yong-sik shows her to Dae-ho's direction, where he is sitting up against a wall covering his ears in distress. She comes up to him and asks what happened and where the ammunition is, as he's taken out of his trance and starts to mumble apologies. Dae-ho flinches at the sudden movement of Hyun-ju picking up the ammunition and as she starts to leave planning on bringing back the ammo, she is stopped in her tracks as the guards enter the room.
Fanon[]
The two, although at first glance that seems to be otherwise, seem to have some similiarities between each other. Both have served for their countries and both have seemingly been discharged. Both have also faced societal condemnation, as Dae-ho was forced to become a marine because of his father not endorsing his sisters influence on him and Hyun-ju had to be discharged because she came out to be a trans woman. Since the two have experiences with defying societies expectations and not fitting in as they weren't accepted by others, because Dae-ho's "femininity" wasn't accepted by his father and Hyun-ju's family and friends alike didn't accept her transition, fans of the ship think they would be good together as they would be comfortable around each other without the need to change themselves. People also think the two would be very good together, whether as friends or more, because Hyun-ju has shown not to get mad at Dae-ho for having PTSD/a panic attack which lead fans to believe she wouldn't judge him over it.
It is a rarepair that is usually written to be platonic as shown by the fanfiction of the two to usually be seen as such, with most scenarios being about Hyun-ju comforting Dae-ho. However, there is some fanart of the two being cute together as a pair. It is also a rarepair as the two have more popular ships with other characters, them being Hyunmi or Hyunseok for Hyun-ju and DaeHee for Dae-ho.
