Daeggyi is the slash ship between Kang Dae-ho and Lee Myung-gi from the Squid Game fandom.

Canon[]

After the Red Light Green Light game, while Dae-ho has talking to Gi-hun’s group, he heard the sounds of a fight and saw Myung-gi being bullied by Thanos and Nam-gyu. Dae-ho commented to Jung-bae, and Jung-bae said that someone needed to step in and help Myung-gi while looking at Dae-ho. This made Dae-ho a bit surprised and hesitant, but Oh Young-il (In-ho's fake identity) stepped in first.

Dae-ho with Jung-bae and In-ho enter the bathroom right as Thanos has pushed Myung-gi to a wall by his neck. Seeing In-ho, Thanos stops what he was doing and leaves, with Nam-gyu and Gyeong-su following. After they leave, Jung-bae asks if that group, referring to them as assholes, were still bothering him and Dae-ho comes up to Myung-gi saying he can always ask for their help. To that, Myung-gi declines, saying everything's fine and leaves.

During Mingle, the two end up in the same room after Myung-gi pushes Hyun-ju back. He starts defending himself against her, saying that if not for him they all would've been dead. Dae-ho agrees, saying there wasn't enough time (referring to Hyun-ju bringing Young-mi into the room).

Fanon[]

Although the two don’t interact much and are considered a rare pair, some fans notices how Dae-ho genuinely cares and once offered to protect Myung-gi along with the rest of his team when he was being bullied. He along with Jun-hee defended Myung-gi again when Cho Hyun-ju blamed him for Kim Young-mi’s death, agreeing that he had saved their lives and that there wasn’t enough time to save her.

Interestingly, both Im Si-wan (Myung-gi's actor) and Kang Ha-neul (Dae-ho's actor) had previously worked together in the TV series Misaeng as Jang Geu-rae (Im Si-wan) and Jang Baek-gi (Kang Ha-neul). Some people on Tiktok have posted scenes where Baek-gi keeps staring at Geu-rae, even though Baek-gi was only a bit jealous of him, he also respected Geu-rae. This connection is why the ship became known and has some fanart, posts about them but it remains some what limited because most people prefer to ship their Misaeng versions.

Its rivals include DaeHee and 555, as people debate which of the two would be a better father figure for Jun-hee, it also often competes with Daegyu and Thanggi. Currently, there are over 40+ works written for it on AO3.
