- “March's weakness is that she likes to get involved in other people's business. ...Perhaps that's also her strength.”
- — Dan Heng’s voice line about March
DanMarch is the het ship between Dan Heng and March 7th from the Honkai: Star Rail fandom.
Canon[]
Dan Heng and March 7th have a relationship of close friends and seasoned partners following the path of the Trailblaze and fighting alongside each other. Early on in the story, their dynamic is displayed through various interactions, with the two often bickering; Dan Heng often comments on March’s recklessness and lack of combat skills while March gets mad at his remarks, and despite their seemingly hostile teaming, Dan Heng is shown to care greatly for March 7th through dangerous situations; despite seeming annoyed by her lively behavior, he does appreciate it.
The two are paired together in official art & matching battle pass profile pictures, released in Version 1.1.
In the animated short Ichor of Two Dragons, March 7th makes a couple of appearances; once when Dan Heng is suffocating from the weight of his past incarnation, and then right after, when the rest of the Astral Express crew goes over to him and March takes a picture of Dan Heng, and he smiles.
Trailblaze Missions[]
Herta Space Station[]
The introduction cutscene of Honkai: Star Rail features Dan Heng and March 7th running to the source of commotion on the space station. The pair later find the Trailblazer and converse while they are unconscious. Dan Heng notes the Trailblazer's weak state and tells March to perform CPR. March refuses and tells Dan Heng to do it instead, only to stop him by pushing his head out of the way when she realizes the Trailblazer has woken up. The two tell the Trailblazer who they are and fill them in on the situation. Dan Heng then leaves to help Arlan.
March 7th and the Trailblazer find their way to an elevator only for it to be broken. March sighs and says how Dan Heng is knowledgeable, comparing him to a "walking encyclopedia" and wonders out loud if he knows anything about elevator repair. Dan Heng appears at this moment and interjects her thoughts, saying he doesn't know anything about elevator repair and instead says that Arlan might. Dan Heng leads them to Arlan who tells them the elevator should start with the encryption key Asta gave them. March remembers that Asta gave her a key, and her slow realization makes Dan Heng sigh and facepalm. While they walk to the elevator March comments on how they haven't bumped into too many monsters, regretting it right after and saying how it might bring them bad luck. Dan Heng sighs and says how she's grown. Right after this interaction a Voidranger sends an attack flying towards the group. Dan Heng quickly reacts and deflects it. More monsters enter the fray and March draws her bow while Dan Heng stands defensively.
In the nick of time Himeko's drone comes and blows up the monsters in front of them. March and Dan Heng nod their heads towards each other in understanding. March pulls the Trailblazer and Arlan along with her while Dan Heng takes a couple seconds to glance at the monsters behind them before running with the rest of the group. Himeko greets March, Dan Heng, and meets the Trailblazer, asking them if March has caused any trouble. If you choose the option that March is reckless she says it's her charm and that you need to get used to it, and asks Dan Heng to back her up. If you choose the option calling her lively, March agrees and enthusiastically asks Dan Heng if he thinks the Trailblazer is a good judge of character. To both these options Dan Heng responds with how he has the right to remain silent. If the Trailblazer says they'd rather not answer Himeko's question, March jokes about how there's two Dan Hengs on the team. Dan Heng responds to this comment by asking to be left out of it.
A Doomsday Beast appears and the members of the express decide to find a way to help. They go to the railway platform and try to meet up with Welt. March runs up ahead to try and take a look. Dan Heng yells at her to wait and outstretches his arm towards her as a gust of wind flies by. The Doomsday Beast has caught up with them and the crew fight it to the best of their abilities. During the battle the Doomsday Beast sends a laser beam towards March. Dan Heng and Himeko scream out for her, and the Trailblazer jumps in front of her and absorbs its attack. The force of the wind forces March to fly backwards and Dan Heng grabs her. The Trailblazer is then knocked out by Welt.
The Trailblazer wakes up and joins the Astral Express. When talking to Pom-Pom the Trailblazer asks about both March 7th and Dan Heng's rooms. Pom-Pom remarks how March is always running all over the place and how you may not find her in her room. Pom-Pom also mentions that the archives room that Dan Heng sleeps in is right beside March's room. When the Trailblazer goes to Dan Heng's room they're stopped before they can even enter. Dan Heng says that people barge in often and so he's learnt to sense when someone is approaching. After Dan Heng lets the Trailblazer use the data bank, he says how he'll be entering new information in it with every journey they take. The Trailblazer says they didn't think Dan Heng to be a scholar, to which he replies that they must have a misunderstanding about him, and that he knows just who planted that idea in their head. If you talk to Dan Heng again he tells you to keep the noise down when you go next door. When the Trailblazer does go next door it seems that Pom-Pom was right as March isn't anywhere to be found in her room.
As it turns out March was in the parlor car preparing for the jump to the express's new destination: Jarilo-VI. March, Dan Heng, and the Trailblazer are assigned to seal the Stellaron on this planet by Himeko.
Jarilo-VI[]
March tells the Trailblazer to go and find Dan Heng for the trailblazing expedition. When they tell him this Dan Heng shares that Himeko would make him and Welt accompany March whenever she wanted to go anywhere. He also says how even with the arrival of the Trailblazer he doesn’t expect to be liberated of said duty. The Trailblazer asks Dan Heng if he and March could just go, but Dan Heng stands by Himeko’s decision for the three of them to go and assures them that with March by their side the expedition was sure to be eventful.
When the Trailblazer returns to March she asks them how talking to Dan Heng went. If you chose the option that he was full of enthusiasm, she says that's hard to believe. If you chose the option saying he wasn’t too enthusiastic, March says “that”s our Dan Heng” and that he keeps a poker face to look cool. She then tells the Trailblazer to relax because she and Dan Heng have plenty of experience and will help them out. Dan Heng walks up beside March as she and the Trailblazer converse and she stops and looks up at him, her mouth curving into a smile. Dan Heng notices her and asks if he has something on his face, to which March replies that she’s just thinking about their fun adventure. Dan Heng takes another jab at March, saying how he feels sorry for how this world they're visiting needs to deal with both the Stellaron and her.
The Trailblazer has two dialogue options when they reach the snowy surface of Jarlio-VI. If the Trailblazer asks why they didn’t land directly at their destination, Dan Heng turns to March and asks her if she wants to share how she made a hole right through Taikiyan Stadium with the Trailblazer. March sighs and tells him to not bring it up… only for Dan Heng to also mention how she did two weeks of community service as a result. If the Trailblazer says how they didn’t anticipate hiking, March agrees and says how much easier things would be if they had a snowmobile. Dan Heng brings up their previous snowmobile to March and she tries to change the topic. Dan Heng reminds the group to remain vigilant, and March tells him to not worry because they’re a good team, and she references his mysterious past.
As they trek deeper into the show March notices an alleged snowdrift. March tells the person in there to come out but they remain hidden. Dan Heng tells March he's got this and stomps on the snowdrift, discovering Sampo. They are all unimpressed with him as he rambles and March asks him to take them to the city. Sampo begins to go on another tangent and starts talking about how such an escort would cost them, but Dan Heng shoots him a glare and Sampo decides to take them. They get stopped by Silvermane Guards and Sampo runs away, leaving the three behind. They get caught by the guards and their Captian Gepard who lets them determine their fate after meeting the Supreme Guardian. When they enter the city of Belobog, March comments on how its gotten warmer and asks Gepard what he means by calling the city humanity's last bastion. Gepard explains Belobog's history and March looks over at Dan Heng and tells him how he's saying some weird stuff. Dan Heng glances back at March and notes how Gepard's tone changed, as if he was reading from a history book. March agrees and asks why he was telling them this stuff in the first place. Gepard says she was the one who asked. March smiles and shrugs, and Dan Heng closes his eyes and looks to side.
When they reach the residence of the Supreme Guardian, March asks to freshen up before seeing her. If the Trailblazer asks to tag along, Dan Heng says how they shouldn't waste time. If the Trailblazer tells March she looks fine Dan Heng tells March she has snow in her hair, but it's not noticeable. They get approval after reaching an agreement with the Supreme Guardian and wander around the city. They approach a workshop and March wants to watch an outdoor performance because Gepard said they had them sometimes. Dan Heng reminds her that Gepard said it was only sometimes. They continue sightseeing and Trailblazer rummages through a trashcan that has a flyer promoting an organization that will help you get away from friends and family to pursue whatever fun you want to have. March says its thoughtful and how she'd like to spend one day doing whatever she wants, to which Dan Heng responds that she must mean wanting to sleep in. When they walk back to the Goethe Hotel March yawns and says how tired she is. She addresses Dan Heng and reminisces to him about how the first day of their expeditions are always eventful. Dan Heng chuckles and says it’s because March has too much energy.
The Xianzhou Luofu[]
An Invitation Without Proffer[]
March comments on Dan Heng's tendency to keep to himself, teasing that if he hasn’t been seen in the morning, he’s likely holed up in his room for the rest of the day. This remark not only reflects her awareness of his habits but also hints at the familiarity and ease that exists between them.
- Dan Heng – “Hold on, I... I'll be there soon.”
- March 7th – “What did I tell you, (Trailblazer)? He's definitely sleeping in.”
- “See, it's like I said: If you wake up and Dan Heng's not around, then you probably won't see him the rest of the day either.”
- — March 7th
As the conversation turns to Dan Heng’s mysterious past, March speculates about his possible secrets with a mix of humor and intrigue, joking that he might be wanted by powerful groups like the Xianzhou Alliance or the Garden of Recollection. Though lighthearted, her remarks reveal a genuine curiosity about him, showing how much she notices about his guarded demeanor while keeping things playful.
Later in the quest, when the crew needs to gather votes on their next destination, March has already taken the initiative to inform Dan Heng of the situation before the player reaches him. They can be seen talking alone together before the Trailblazer approaches. Dan Heng ultimately decides to stay behind on the Express to keep watch over it.
- Dan Heng – “I've only glimpsed it a few times, but... it's as magnificent as I remember...”
- March 7th – “You okay there? What's with all the lonely nostalgia vibes?”
- Dan Heng – “...”
- March 7th – “A vessel arrives at a deserted spaceport... Isn't that how, like, loads of horror movies start!?”
- Dan Heng – “Let's not let our imaginations get the better of us.”
- “Allll this universe, and we just happen to bump into a Xianzhou ship that Dan Heng spent time on? That's gotta be fate! I wonder what Dan Heng stories await us. That guy sure has a mysterious past. We gotta take this opportunity on the Luofu to dig into it!”
- — March 7th
Devising Stratagems[]
March shows curiosity about Dan Heng's well-being, prompting the Trailblazer to try sending a message to him. Despite some technical difficulties, March stays positive and reassures the group that they'll stay on top of things. The scene also includes Dan Heng's moments of reflection, particularly regarding his past and the burden he feels. Himeko encourages him to not dwell too much on his past and to focus on the present journey, emphasizing the importance of moving forward.
- “More importantly, let's see how Dan Heng's doing! Hee-hee, ask him what he's up to — then tell him we're having loads of fun!”
- — March 7th
Stars Spun, Prescience Sprung[]
March expresses frustration about the secrecy of the Xianzhou commissions and contrasts them with the more transparent General Jing Yuan. She jokes about her own poetic musings and mentions missing the familiar chaos of their earlier travels. She also briefly wonders if the Xianzhou could be her homeworld but dismisses it, noting Dan Heng might be more connected to it.
- March 7th – “Like how you're always pretending to be quiet?”
- Trailblazer – “As icy as Dan Heng?”
- March 7th – “Haha, Dan Heng's not icy. He's nerdy.”
- “...Are you wondering if the Xianzhou is my homeworld? No, I'm not getting any flashbacks. Please — do I look Xianzhouish to you? You must be thinking of Dan Heng.”
- — March 7th
Wood Sprouts Anew, Fate Tilts Askew[]
Amid the chaos, Dan Heng boards the Xianzhou Luofu, concerned for the safety of the Astral Express crew. Although separated, March 7th frequently comments on him, reflecting her ongoing thoughts about him and their connection.
- “Ha, I'm the queen of vigilance, thank you very much. I don't trust anyone except Dan Heng, Mr. Yang, Himeko, and you.”
- — March 7th
Oblation Obtained, Order Ordained[]
March 7th, upon reuniting with Dan Heng, is shocked by his different appearance, especially noticing his horns. Despite the initial surprise, she eagerly welcomes him, playfully commenting on his "secret strength." She’s concerned about him but is also quick to brush off her curiosity, instead focusing on the mission ahead. She’s happy to have him back, seeing him as part of the team again.
- March 7th – “Huh? I—Is that... Dan Heng!? You... Y—You are Dan Heng, right? What's with the horns...?”
- Dan Heng – “It's a long story, March. It's me.”
- March 7th – “So... you do have secret strength!?”
- March 7th – “You scared the heck outta me! For a second I thought you'd annoyed the general — it seemed like you were his prisoner. There I was thinking up a plan to kidnap you, and it turns out the two of you are old buddies! Soooo what made you suddenly decide to come down from the Express?”
- Dan Heng – “I was worried for your safety. [ Or, the other choice ] ...”
- March 7th – “Aww, how sweet! Buuuut (Trailblazer), Mr. Yang, and I have been holding our own — we're pretty much Xianzhou heroes at this point. [ Or, the other choice ] Okay, okay, I won't push you — everyone has their secrets. Besides, given the circumstances, my curiosity can wait. Anyway, it's great to have you with us, Dan Heng!”
- “Y'know, the more I look at this statue, the less "Dan-Hengy" it gets... Still, it's got the same stony expression, haha.”
- — March 7th
A Dragon Gallant, Its Ocean Distant[]
Dan Heng uncovers the history of the Vidyadhara and their sealing rituals, referencing "the three talons" and their significant role in the Arbor’s seals. Along the way, March 7th humorously comments on the vast, abandoned structures and the unknown, while the group battles abominations and deals with challenging seals to reach the Arbor’s roots.
- March 7th – “What a huge palace — completely abandoned... That must have been difficult for them — imagine how upset you'd be if you had to abandon me.”
- Dan Heng – “For the Vidyadhara, it must have been a necessary sacrifice.”
Demise of Immortality, Finale of Calamity[]
In a dramatic confrontation, Phantylia taunts the group before revealing her manipulation of the Arbor’s power, claiming it will lead to destruction. March is visibly anxious during the battle, especially when she believes Dan Heng's strike on Jing Yuan might have failed. She voices her fears but is relieved when they succeed. Her worry contrasts with Dan Heng’s more stoic demeanor, though he is clearly invested in the outcome as well.
- “So it was all part of the plan! When Dan Heng stabbed you, I was scared to death...”
- — March 7th
Obsequies Performed, A Long Road Ahead[]
March encourages the Trailblazer to focus on their accomplishments and future, brushing aside the influence of the Stellaron Hunters. Meanwhile, Dan Heng reveals his complex feelings about returning to the Luofu, expressing unease over his past and his uncertain future there. With their mission on the Xianzhou over, the Crew plans for their next journey, which hints at being Penacony, the Land of Dreams.

Fanon[]
Many fans are brought in by the dynamic of March's bright, lively personality, which contrasts Dan Heng's more reserved, cold personality. The ship began gaining traction early in the game due to March and Dan Heng frequently appearing together and collaborating closely. Their consistent presence alongside each other in quests involving the Astral Express further solidified their connection. Interest in the ship deepened when players discovered they had known each other long before the game’s events began. It was revealed that Dan Heng was present when March was rescued from the Six-Phased Ice in space, and they have remained together as Trailblazers ever since.
Shippers often interpret DanMarch as a bond rooted in deep friendship, with March tirelessly striving to brighten Dan Heng’s world and bring joy to his life. In return, Dan Heng provides March with a steadying presence, grounding her in reality and offering unwavering support through her struggles in practical, meaningful ways. Thus, they complement each other’s personalities perfectly: March’s cheerful and optimistic nature balancing Dan Heng’s calm and pragmatic demeanor.
Some shippers compare DanMarch to Renora from the RWBY fandom, due to their similar dynamic and personalities, as well as March having a similar hairstyle to Nora.
