—Darumi on Day 29 (Killing Game)

Daruko is the femslash ship between Darumi Amemiya and Hiruko Shizuhara from The Hundred Line fandom.

Canon[]

General[]

In every route, Darumi expresses great admiration and romantic attraction towards Hiruko. She often refers to Hiruko as "Mistress Hiruko" ("Hiruko-sama" in the Japanese version) and describes Hiruko as being cool and powerful, saying she wants to be just like her. Hiruko is normally reserved about her emotions and regularly chastises the other students for making any remarks about her, but she never discourages or dissuades Darumi. She allows Darumi to accompany her and help her without being mean or derogatory, which is more than can be said for her relationship to the rest of the cast. In turn, Darumi often takes Hiruko's side in discussions and arguments, and compliments her battle prowess.

Killing Game[]

In the Killing Game route, she opts to partner with Darumi right as the game begins, saying that she made Darumi her "dog," something which Darumi seems very pleased about. She confides in Takumi and Yugamu that she partnered with Darumi in order to keep an eye on her and protect her, to make sure she wasn't overexerting herself during the Invader Hunt. When Darumi and Hiruko hunt together, both of them seem to greatly enjoy spending the time together. Later on, when Darumi is caught unaware by the squad 3 commander and injured, Hiruko attempts to defend her and is gravely wounded. She asks the other students who are present to take her cryptoglobin in order to power themselves up enough to repel the commander, which would result in her death. Darumi stabs Hiruko and absorbs her. The emotional turmoil of both having remnants Hiruko's consciousness inside her and having killed her only friend sends Darumi into a catastrophic spiral of self-destruction, isolating her from the other students for weeks. When Takumi, Tsubasa, and Yugamu are finally able to confront Darumi about her feelings and behavior, she explains that Hiruko was the only person who had ever cared about her, and that she didn't deserve to live after killing her. She had been trying to bait Tsubasa into killing her for points as a form of indirect suicide. With encouragement from Tsubasa, Darumi is able to resolve to live on to honor Hiruko's sacrifice.

Quotes[]

“Oh, my Hiruko-sama! Nobody goes wild as beautifully as you!”
— Darumi (Killing Game route)
“Someone who fought with such wanton abandon in a situation where there was no coming back from death couldn't exactly be mentally sound now, could they? Without me keeping a close eye on her, she'll be running headlong into the largest group of invaders she can find. If I don't keep forcing her to return together, she'll keep on fighting, even past her limits. Even after returning, she always wants to go right back out to continue the hunt. It's not easy for me to keep pulling her back. She's basically committing slow suicide... I can't take my eyes off her for a minute. I just... don't want to leave her alone to her own devices. A short while's fine but I get the feeling we may be taking a while tomorrow... I have to take her along... if I don't want to come back to seeing her dead.”
— Hiruko on Day 29 (Killing Game)
“Hiruko-sama? Stop the killing game? You're crazy. She was the Goddess of this game. Hiruko-sama reveled in slaughter and bloodshed. She was the perfect embodiment of everything the Invader Hunt stood for. And now she's in my tummy... That makes me, like, the Holy Mother of the Goddess or something. Watch over me, Hiruko-sama... I'll kill lots of invaders and offer up their blood in your name. I'll knock everyone else out of the rankings and reign supreme as the Queen of Kills!”
— Darumi on Day 33 (Killing Game)
“Hiruko-sama was a true martyr... She was okay with dying if it would save everyone. And in her last moments, she sacrificed herself so that we could survive... She's so freaking cool! I have to be like her...”
— Darumi on Day 75 (Killing Game)
“Hiruko-sama was the first friend I ever made in my whole life... It didn't even feel real... How could someone so beautiful and refined end up with me? We had fun all day together...! She didn't look down on me... She didn't abandon me... She was kind and warm... No one else was like Hiruko-sama. But she's gone now... I drank her blood and ate her... I don't deserve to live after killing her. I have to die just like she did!”
— Darumi on Day 75 (Killing Game)
“When we find Mistress Hiruko's body, I'll take one of her fingers for my collection, or maybe an eyeball... I can make it into an earring, so then we'll always be together.”
— Darumi on Day 19 (Route 0)

Fanon[]

The ship sailed due to the clear attraction that Darumi shows for Hiruko in all routes of the game, and for Hiruko's uncharacteristically caring attitude towards Darumi. The two also have an opposites attract vibe that many fans like, with Hiruko being cold and intelligent while Darumi is wild and emotional.

Prior to the release the demo, the ship had minor support as early as late 2024, due to some finding their designs pleasant together and entertained the idea of them being a "matching each other's freak" ship.

On AO3, it is currently the most popular ship for Darumi and the second most popular ship for Hiruko. It is the most popular femslash ship in the fandom as a whole. It's primarily rivaled by Takudaru and Hirusumi.
