Dazai x Waitress is the het ship between Osamu Dazai and Waitress from the Bungou Stray Dogs fandom.

Canon

Dazai meets the Waitress at the cafe below the Agency where she works. He finds her beautiful and asks her for a double suicide. However, she always rejects his advances. Though, Dazai doesn't give up and continues trying to win her heart. The Waitress is referred to as "Belladonna" on the Bungo Stray Dogs wiki, however, she doesn't have a canon name and "Belladonna" is most likely derived from Dazai's name of endearment he calls her ('Bella donna')

Port Mafia Arc

Dazai is shown grabbing the Waitress’ hand and tracing it, making her blush. He asks her if she can strangle him with her “fragile”/“delicate” fingers, before Kunikida marches up to him and punches him on the head. Dazai collapses and the Waitress is seen leaning in to stare at him with a slightly confused expression.

One day, patting her hands, he asks her for a double suicide with him. Smiling, she tells him to feel free to do it in his own. Worrying, Dazai tells her that a double suicide is not possible alone. Later, the Waitress asks if he has a proper life insurance policy. Worrying more, he asks why she needs this information calling her "bella donna" (beautiful woman). She reminds him that he had racked up quite a tab and needs to pay. The Waitress tells him that if he hasn't gotten one yet, she would be happy to help him with that. Dazai immediately changes the theme of their conversation and happily says how her vitality is blinding him. However, the Waitress realized that he made it on purpose and tells him If it's the best he has got for changing the subject, she's going to go ahead and barge into his agency on the fourth floor. Despite of this, Dazai isn't scared and keeps complimenting her.

The Guild Aftermath Arc

After the war with The Guild, the members of the Armed Detective Agency rest in Café Uzumaki. Dazai (like the others) makes an order. Atsushi apologizes to the Waitress if they caused any trouble, but the Waitress replies that it's fine and the only problem is Dazai's debt. She comes closer to Dazai’s face and with a smile advises him to get a proper life insurance policy. Dazai worries and moves back from her. Then, he tries to compliment her which makes her smile.

Hunting Dogs Arc

Dazai asks Fyodor for a love advice.

In Meursault, Dazai meets Fyodor who invites to start the Oh-So-Exhilarating Consultation Corner. (Or the Happy Group Counseling Hour in the dub.) He proposes to take the opportunity to discuss their grievances and personal problems. When it's Dazai's turn to speak, he starts talking about the Waitress. He explains that no matter how he tries, she doesn't answer to his feelings and doesn't know what to do with it. Fyodor advises him to leave her without a home and job, then deceive her family into disowning her so she will have no choice but to be with him. Dazai responds saying he understands, then the both of them start laughing about it.

Bungo Stray Dogs: Tales of the Lost

In the side story Bandaged Man of Mystery, Kunikida is looking for Dazai and asks Atsushi if he saw him. After Atsushi says he doesn't know where he is, Kunikida instructs him to find Dazai. He adds that they both should take care of one mission together. Atsushi agrees and later he finds Dazai in a cafe where he's flirting with The Waitress.

Dazai – “My elegant flower. I've discovered a new suicide method. Today should be the day we take this journey together, don't you think?”

Waitress – “Dazai-san, you're so persistent. How about you pay your tab? Then you can start this new adventure on your own?”

Dazai – “Playing hard to get as always... Still, all I want is to commit double suicide with a beauty such as yourself.”

Feeling uncomfortable, Atsushi asks what he is doing. Seeing Atsushi, Dazai greets him and notices from his face that he saw everything. Atsushi starts telling him that Kunikida is very annoyed from his missing at work time. Also, Atsushi says that they should go together for the work request. However, Dazai refuses and leaves Atsushi in a confused state. Dazai gets up from his chair, gently waves and leaves. Then, the Waitress tells Atsushi to pay for Dazai's coffee because he left without paying as always. Later, she adds that Dazai has been running quite the tab and asks Atsushi if he wants to pay the whole thing while he's here. Atsushi refuses and tells her to talk about it with Dazai-san.

Fanon

The fanbase of this ship is very small due to Waitress being a minor character and her relationship with Dazai being played for comedy. The ship is often not noticed in fandom because of its large number of rivals, especially its biggest rival ship Soukoku. Despite of this, some shippers believe that there's a possibility of a future relationship because of Dazai's crush on the Waitress. On AO3, the ship has 2+ works.

Trivia

• The real life Osamu Dazai loved and attempted to commit a double suicide with a waitress named Shimeko Tanabe. However, he survived and Shimeko Tanabe died. He wrote about her in his short story collection named The Final Years. It's very possible that the Waitress is an allusion to Shimeko Tanabe.
• On the Bungo Stray Dogs wiki, the Waitress is named Belladonna because Dazai calls her "Bella donna" which is a term of endearment meaning "beautiful woman" in Italian. Belladonna is a type of plant that causes things such as: accelerated heartrate, hallucinations, and spasms among other symptoms.
