The Kids Are Alright[]

Lisa“I swear you look disappointed.”
Dean“Yeah, I don’t know. It’s weird, you know your life… I mean, this house and a kid… It’s not my life. Never will be. Some stuff happened to me recently, and, uh… Anyway, a guy in my situation - you start to think, you know. I’m gonna be gone one day, and what am I leaving behind besides a car?”
Lisa“I don’t know. Ben may not be your kid, but… He wouldn’t be alive if it wasn’t for you. That’s a lot if you ask me.”
Dean“You know, for the record… You got a great kid. I would’ve been proud to be his dad.”
Lisa“Look, if you want to stick around for a while… You’re welcome to stay.”
— Dean and Lisa in 3x02, The Kids Are Alright

Dean tells Sam they’re going to Cicero, Indiana because he wants to meet Lisa there. He explains to his brother that he spent several days in Lisa’s loft eight years ago. He describes the time he spent with her as “the bendiest weekend” of his life. Dean says it’s his dying wish and that he’ll be smiling after “24 hours with gumby girl”.

In Cicero, Dean rings the doorbell and Lisa opens the door, she seems surprised to see him. Dean tells her he was just passing through and wanted to visit her as he remembered she loved surprises. Lisa tells him it’s a bad time as she’s hosting a birthday party for her son Ben. Dean seems surprised to learn she has a son and asks her about his age. She tells Dean Ben is eight before having to leave.

Dean overhears two women gossiping about him, where one woman tells the other about Lisa calling him “best-night-of-my-life-Dean”, he seems embarrassed and leaves. He meets up with Ben, talks with him for a while and, now suspecting Ben is his son, he goes to find Lisa. Dean asks Lisa if Ben is his son but she says he isn’t.

While talking with Lisa, Dean finds a case Sam and Dean decide to work on.

Later, Dean finds Ben in a park and tells him how to stand up to bullies. However, Lisa saw her son kick the other kids and comes to ask him why he would do that. Upon discovering he did so on Dean’s input, she tells Dean that he doesn’t know her as they had one weekend together “one million years ago” and to leave them alone.

Dean visits Lisa's house, he tells her he’s sorry he didn’t give him a present and gives her a credit card for her and Ben to go away from the town while he and Sam work the case. Lisa questions the name on the credit card but Dean promises her it would work. Ben wakes up and tells Lisa to make Dean go away and she tells Dean to leave. Dean then understands that Ben has been replaced by a changeling.

Sam and Dean kill the changeling mom and save the kids, including Ben. Sam and Dean drive Ben back home. Dean says he’ll explain everything to her and she hugs him. Sam leaves to give them some time. Dean explains the case to her and tells her this is his job. He says Ben will be fine but questions Lisa again about his father. She assures Dean he isn’t the father as she did a blood test. She says it was “some bar back in a biker joint”, Dean gives her a look and she responds by saying she had a type. She then remarks that he seems disappointed and she kisses him before asking him if he would like to stay but he declines before leaving.
