DeathBand is the het ship between Death Devil and Bandaid Boy from the Chainsaw Man fandom.
Canon[]
According to the Prophecy of Nostradamus, as told by Hirofumi Yoshida to Famine Devil - who assumed the identity of a high school student named Fami - in Chapter 122, "in the seventh month of 1999, a great king of terror will descend." It is believed the entity is none other than Death Devil, Fami's sister.
On June 1999, a month before the presumed prophecy, Death Devil arrived in Fourth East High School, where Yoshida and Fami "enrolled", in the form of a new transfer student. She timidly introduced herself to her classmates and proclaimed to be their savior. While feeling bad for their future, due to their lukewarm receptions, Death Devil cried pathetically. One of her classmates, a boy with bandaid on his left cheek, suggested she could start by helping them prepare for the impending school festival. However, after another classmate told her to take the trash bags to the incinerator, she refused to assist them. She felt doing so would be a waste of her talent, insisting since she had "special powers", the onus of doing menial tasks fell to humans. Dejected, the bandaid boy decided to threw the trash in her place.
Unfortunately, Death Devil's words soured the mood of the class. One such student complained about her behavior, while another one sarcastically told her to crush some ants outside instead of being a nuisance to them. Death Devil headed out to school's backyard and proceeded to heed the latter's "advice". Feeling bad, the bandaid boy approached her. He said everyone's on edge because they lost their houses and parents because of devil attacks, with school being their only place to be happy. He finished by saying her smile might ease the gloominess around the class.
Death Devil surprised the bandaid boy by declaring the school festival would fail and offered to save everyone. She sauntered to him, then put her hand on top of his head. Before she could exercised her power on him, they were interrupted by the timely arrival of "Chainsaw Man".
The supposed Hero of Hell declared that he will save the boy, despite the latter's plea to spare the Death Devil, claiming she was not being serious. As the "Chainsaw Man" successfully decapitated her during their brief battle, he wondered why the devil is easily defeated and whether she's the real deal, before convincing himself she was the right target. He reintroduced himself to the boy as the champion of justice, whose job is to stop the prophecy from coming into fruition and annihilate the threat. The boy asked about his words, since to him the girl was nothing more than a "weird cringey kid". The devil insisted he committed no mistakes, to the boy's chagrin.
Before the boy could finish his tangent on not being listened by anyone, a detached hand grabbed him by the leg. "Chainsaw Man" tried to warn him about Death Devil's true nature, but it's too late as she drained the boy's life force and killed him before resurrecting in his stead.
Fanon[]
Despite only introduced in recent chapter, fans were quick to ship DeathBand. Most fans liked their dynamic and wished to see more of them in the future. Given the nature of the manga, some fans were bemused by the ship popularity. They argued that there are no guarantees the Bandaid Boy would survive next chapter, let alone the end of the story. The skepticism was eventually proven to be correct as Death Devil killed the Bandaid Boy in the following chapter.
Fandom[]
Trivia[]
- Bandaid Boy's character design bears a resemblance to the main character of Just Listen to the Song, a one-shot written by Chainsaw Man's mangaka, Tatsuki Fujimoto.
- It is later revealed that Death Devil is actually the Famine Devil, whereas Fami is the real Death Devil all along, having borrowed her sister's identity.[1]
