Chapter 3: Sumeru Archon Quest[]
Act 3 - Dreams, Emptiness, Deception[]
The Four at Loggerheads[]
In the Lower Sketch, at the outskirts of Aaru Village, General Mahamatra, Cyno, and the Scribe of the Akademiya, Alhaitham, clashed. The Traveler and Paimon couldn’t intervene, but Dehya attempted to be the mediator. They all argued before the Aaru Village's guardian, Candace, invited them to the village chief’s hut to avoid the incoming sandstorm and also to interrogate the group about their motives.

The Missing Village Keepers[]
Before the Traveler and Dehya set out to Caravan Ribat, Dehya expresses her offhanded comment about Alhaitham's whereabouts. She asks both the Traveler and Candace if they shared the same concern. She then informs them she has only seen him by the village entrance, but nothing further about where he is gone or what he is up to. She assuming the two were accompanying him. However, both said they didn’t know where he was.
Cry from Eleazar Hospital[]
After Traveler and Co. discovered Cyno is the mole, they suspected where the perpetrators were heading to, leading the group to overhear a conversation between Rahman and Dehya. When Isak discovers them, he’s shocked that she betrayed them, so the group reveals themselves to confront her. Dehya gets annoyed by their interjection. It only made things worse when Rahman took the offense and pulled back from their deal.
This caused Alhaitham to offer himself in exchange for his aid. Bewildered, Dehya questions if he can uphold his promise. He confirmed that he will. And it led her to offer her arm to prove Alhaitham's word instead. For confirmation, Alhaitham attempts to clarify Dehya's decision, if she is truly willing to give up something of value to prove the truth. In response, she discarded his question, saying : "That's not for you to decide".
Rahman agreed to cut off Dehya’s arm, but couldn’t commit to the act. He reasoned that Dehya was his kin and couldn’t convince himself to hurt her. In the end, Rahman promised to help them get the Village keepers back.
Things started to settle between the brigade and Traveler’s companions, except for Paimon being outraged by Dehya’s rash decision. Dehya dismissed the fairy’s fury and explained she didn’t mind the consequences, making it clear she is committed to doing whatever it takes to help. Alhaithm then acknowledged that he did similar things and that she had similar attributes as a scholar. Dehya calls him out as she sees the comment as a backhand compliment praising himself.
Act 5 - Akasha Pulses, the Kalpha Flare Rises[]

Cyno, Alhaitham, Dehya, and the Traveler reported their progress in their plan to rescue Lesser Lord Kusanli. They decided to recruit Nilou, the star of Zubayr Theater, for bait for the next phase of their operation. After further clarification from all party members, Alhaitham abruptly ended the meeting. Taken aback, Dehya asked if he could give words of aspiration, something to motivate them in their work. It only caused banter between the two, as they bicker about why Alhaitham doesn’t do speeches. Briefly, he explains his position isn’t to be a motivational speaker, and that his job is in reflection of that. From his wording alone, it sounded snarky. At that point, Dehya had enough and left the conversation there.
A Toast to Victory[]
Tensions settled from the aftermath of the rescue and fight with Shouki no Kami. The Traveler wakes up peacefully in Gandharva Hill from Paimon’s disturbance. Invited by Collei to eat, they discovered Nilou had invited them and their friends to a celebration. Celebrating Cyno’s return to his position in the Matra, Nilou tasked the Traveler to gather and invite the guests.
Going down the list, they soon met Dehya and Dunyarzad at Port Ormos. That is where Dehya disclosed what Alhaitham had sent to her : a letter containing details of the possibility of working at the Akademiya. Dehya reveals that she has declined his offer, for her beliefs wouldn't correlate with a scholar, and she would rather live life unpredictably.
Two days later, the Traveler arrived at the party late after finishing the task. Alhaitham noted that whoever came last should be responsible and has to come up with a speech. Dehya dismissed this as there is no need for such.
Dehya later on admits to Alhaitham that she was always curious about what his motives could be.
They can be both seen chatting together during the feast.
Character Stories[]
Alhaitham: Friendship Level 3[]
In his character story, Alhaitham is described to have more or less befriended everyone who participated in his plan (including Dehya) to the point where he sometimes greets them with a nod whenever he sees them in the street. Later in the story, Alhaitham visits the Sanctuary of Surasthana along with Cyno, Nilou, and Dehya. Nilou asks Alhaitham how his plans succeeded during the Archon Quest. He answers that Nilou was the first person to ask him this. Because his other two companions didn’t dare to, he quipped about them being too “shy” to ask him themselves.

Both discuss Alhaitham’s job recommendation in their voice lines about each other. While Alhaitham points out his reasoning for her to work at the Akademiya, Dehya is the opposite. She explains why being a scholar doesn’t suit her, and in comparison to her, Alhaitham is preferable for the position.

Fanon[]
Dehya and Alhaitham's interaction during the Archon Quest has piqued interest among many of their fans. In each chapter, both show to grow in their relationship in the story. From acquaintances to reluctant allies, fans submit their love for the ship because of them digging the idea of comrade-in-arms to lovers trope. And to further prove their interest when both characters quip and banter throughout the quest, fulfilling the “mutual pining” that fans like to call “flirting.”
It’s how “negotiations' ' became a popular plot device in the fandom, as fans saw it as a way to reenact the Archon Quest. It plays out with the Akademiya assigning Alhaitham a task requiring him to travel outside Sumeru. Depending on the context, he hires Dehya to accompany his journey. Most of the time, Dehya becomes Alhaitham’s bodyguard. And the story unfolds with both working together to achieve their goal. From there, it follows the development of the romantic aspects of their relationship as they get to know each other more. While still showing how both are impressive in their own terms of character.

Trivia[]
- In Act 4: “King Deshret and the three Magi: Cry from the Eleazar Hospital,” Dehya and Alhaitham venture in an attempt to convince Rahman. Without going heavy into detail, Alhaitham is less concerned about his safety, while Dehya isn’t bothered about the consequences. Both are indifferent about what would happen to them but know their actions will achieve their end goal.
- Paimon: “What were you thinking!? What if they decided to kill you instead?”
- Alhaitham: “Well, that would be bad luck for me.”
- Paimon: “That was crazy! Have you all lost your minds!? What if he’d cut your arm off!”
- Dehya: “Hmm, then I’d just have to hold my claymore with my left arm.”
- During the Windblume’s Breath event, visiting Sumeru City, you see Dehya’s npc at the Akademiya. Talking to her, you discover that she is taking Cyno’s place till he returns, becoming temporary General Mahamatra.
- “Haha, well, Cyno’s out of the country on a trip, so he got me to come and help his subordinates take care of a few things. I guess you could say I’m his temporary substitute.”
- Dehya’s voice line has been re-translated and reveals some surprising information. Compared to her English translations, in another language, it describes her opinion on Alhaitham in a much light-hearted way. More playful. At the end of the voice line, it leaves an open-ended note in interpretation for teasing.
- “He offered me a job at the Akademiya, but I turned it down. Sitting in this swamp is a bore to death. But he belongs at the Akademiya, he’s so articulate and he can’t say a word without making snide remarks. Pffft…”
- Dehya and Alhaitham need Grease Pupa and Eremite Satin for their accession material.
- Dehya has strong interruption resistance with her elemental skill, "Molten Inferno." And, though her pyro application is slow, it contrasts with Alhaitham's reactions. Alhaitham has a high Dendro application and reaction combined with "Molten Inferno." it becomes a shield to counter enemies, but the effect is Dehya’s health. However, above Level 60, when Dehya hits 20% health, she recovers her health.
- Dehya and Alhaitham both favor Fervid Aroma. Furniture set for the Teapot.
- Traveling Troop's Pomp is a outdoor gift set favored by Dehya that has an interesting origin. The Akademiya sent a “liaison” to cooperate with the Corps of Thirty. But because of their confusing instructions, a “mercenary with black-and-gold hair” had to simplify it for others to understand.
- Outside the Canvas and Inside the Lens is a recurring event for players to take pictures in exchange for earning rewards. The task is called Unsubstantiated Law, where players head to the Mausoleum of King Dershret to take a picture of their Pyro character. But, what to note is what’s written on the task. A novelist created a love story between “an outgoing girl from the desert” and “a lonely young man from the Akademiya.” More dialogue explains the author would make some slight changes to the novel.
- Encounter Amongst the Dune is a Genshin Impact Animation sent to participate in the 2023 HoYoFair. The video contained Dehya and Alhaitham fighting against Ruin Gargoyles in the Valley of Dahari.
- Radio Teyvat Broadcast Ep.65 Eng Sub features Zhongli’s, Aether’s, and Dehya’s Japanese voice actors. Zhongli asked Dehya who her shopping partner would be, and she contemplated if Alhaitham would agree if she asked him to come with her.
- Zhongli: "Question: who in Genshin would you like to go shopping with?"
- Dehya: "Shopping, huh... I wonder if Alhaitham will agree to go shopping with me."
- During the 3.5 Japanese Live Stream, Dehya’s and Cyno’s voice actors traded compliments before Alhaitham’s voice actor stopped them. Acknowledging that he and Collei’s voice actor were still present.
- Cyno:“Yes, you did really well in that huge confrontation in Sabzeruz Festival. It surely feels safe around you."
- Dehya:“Aw thank you. Cyno is pretty dependable too in my opinion."
