Diakko is the femslash ship between Diana Cavendish and Akko Kagari from the Little Witch Academia fandom.

Canon[]

Akko doesn't like Diana at all for her somewhat arrogant personality, and sees her as a rival, while Diana sees her as a simple lowly witch who doesn't understand the true meaning of magic. Akko is always trying to prove herself better than Diana. The fact that Diana is a much more competent witch is very frustrating to her. Another reason why Akko dislikes Diana is because she does not like Shiny Chariot, though unaware that Diana herself used to idolize Shiny Chariot. Despite their rivalry, Diana isn't derogatory towards Akko unlike Hannah and Barbara; instead of outright insulting her she criticizes Akko's dreams. Even so, their relationship seemed to improve upon Diana gaining some respect for Akko's passion and great determination.

Their bond further strengthens during the events of Diana's household succession crisis, where Diana sees Akko's unrelenting persistence on having Diana return to school. In return, Akko witnesses Diana's compassion towards everyone, even her enemies. With mutual respect established, Diana is no longer as harsh as she was to Akko.

In "Yesterday", Diana shows great concern for Akko, confronting her idol Chariot (Ursula Callistis) over the latter's seeming abandonment of Akko in her greatest time of need. Diana finally tells Akko the truth about her love of Shiny Chariot, and the two bond over their common passion, even as both recently had upsetting encounters with real-life Chariot. Diana gives Akko her precious premium Chariot card to remind Akko the truth of "A believing heart is your magic", which had inspired her to regain her own magic after it being absorbed by Chariot.

In "Tree of Leaves", Diana was shown to genuinely care about Akko. As Akko was knocked out of the Shiny Ballista by the Magitronic missile, Diana was in panic and even started sobbing until she saw that Akko was unharmed, relieving her tension. After magic is restored and the world has been saved, Diana is shown to jest about Akko's failure in broom flying, implying they have a close yet somewhat rivaling relationship now.

Fanon[]

Diana being embarrassed upon asked about her familiarity with Shiny Arc

The scene that allegedly inspired the DiAkko ship

Though unconfirmed, the ship sailed In the light of a particular scene in the original short where Diana accidentally slipped her familiarity with Shiny Arc Akko just performed to defeat the Ancient Dragon, the lone Briton Red Dragon sealed deep within New Moon Tower. When Akko asks her about it, luminescent blush could be seen on Diana's face as she turned away, much to Akko's suspicion. Diana's aforementioned reaction hinted that she secretly idolized Shiny Chariot as much as Akko is, something that later confirmed through rewatching the short film's early scene which revealed her to be among the audience of Chariot's show.

Many of fan works based on this ship were inspired by the possibility of Diana and Akko being LGBT+ stemmed from romantic subtexts between them in canon (particularly the franchise's anime continuity), most notably in episodes such as "Bee Affection" (which admittedly inspired by this ship somewhat), two-parter Diana-centered story arc "Cavendish" and "Intelligence and Sensibility", and the final part of four-parter second cour finale (second season in Netflix's airing) "Changing at the Edge of the World". Diana is speculated to be either a lesbian through her interactions with Akko and her uninterested expression upon the sight of Andrew during the latter's visit to Luna Nova in "The Fountain" (the latter is mostly due to the fact that she and the young Hanbridge have known each other for a long time as opposed of utter disinterest towards males, however) or in lesser extent, a transgender woman who was originally born male and had her body magically altered into its current female form at her volition sometime during her childhood. Akko, on the other hand, was stated to be the kind of girl who "isn't interested in guys at all" by Yoshinari in an interview[1], resulting in most fans viewing her a lesbian. However, she is also frequently headcanoned as a bisexual who is merely too awkward to pursue romance at this point, if the her conversation with Sarah in Chamber of Time game was to be believed[2]

The mangaka, possibly Keisuke Satō himself, also ships it. In an interview, he was asked if Akko will get together with Andrew in the further chapters of the manga, the mangaka replied, "Akko already has Diana.", and he also has made some art that is about DiAkko. In turn, the creator of the franchise wrote on Japanese image boards before the show premiered that although the show is not yuri in order to maintain its family-friendly atmosphere and better appreciated by the largest demographic, the studio is completely open to any shipping from the fans.

To this date, this is the most popular ship in the fandom, surpassing even by much the ship of AnAkko.
