When it comes to the Batfamily, Dick is the one that Damian is the closest to. Damian being Bruce's only biological child, along with his upbringing, caused him to believe that he was superior to Dick and the other previous Robins. While Dick simply tries to be an older brother figure to him, despite him being none too pleased with Damian's spoiled attitude. Even though Damian's pride keeps him from admitting it to anyone else, he had grown to respect Dick. When Bruce was believed to be dead, Dick became Batman and chose Damian to be his Robin. Believing that Damian needed to be Robin to feel like he belonged after Bruce's death.

Injustice[]

When Nightwing and Robin were helping Batman at Arkham Asylum, Damian was tired of Dick telling him want to do and how to fight, similar to what happened during their earlier training. In anger, Damian threw a baton at Nightwing, the baton hitting Dick on the side of his head, the force causing him to break his neck when he hit the ground. Damian was horrified when he realized that he caused Dick's death. Despite the times Damian couldn't stand Dick he had grown to love him, and seeing Dick's dead body brought him to tears. He tried to tell Batman that Dick's death was an accident, but he wouldn't hear him out and assumed that Damian had killed Dick on purpose. Dick's soul became Deadwing and used his new abilities to tell Damian that he doesn't blame him for his death and knows that it was an accident. To honor his fallen brother, and with Dick's permission, Damian became the new Nightwing in his place.

In the 2021 film version of Injustice, Deadwing saves Damian from being killed by Ra's and then helps him to fight the Demon Head. Even though Damian had tried to regain control of his body he eventually allows Dick to help him. After the fight Damian tells Dick that he was sorry for causing his death and how he was always a better person then he was, dead or alive. [1] Dick reassure Damian that he already has forgiven him and gives Damian advice to aid him in the future. Like watching his feet and not killing everyone he fights. Damian smiles as he tells Dick that he'll try to do things his way.

Nightwing first met Damian when he was keeping him from killing one of Deathstroke's thugs, while commenting how "the psychopaths keep getting younger" before Damian attacks him. Leaving Nightwing with many cuts from their fight until he was able to restrain him. Some point during or after the battle Damian tells Dick that he is Batman's son, making him and Dick brothers. This gets Nightwing to call Batman to conform this, before he goes to their location to bring both Nightwing and Damian back to the Batcave. While Nightwing gets informed of Damian's "situation" that got him placed in his father's care. Due to the lectors Dick was given on protection, Damian's existence had made it look like that Bruce wasn't using his own advice. Damian calling himself the blood son and mocking Dick's old Robin suite didn't help matters between him and Dick. As Damian's actions from their battle got Dick to call him blood thirsty. At first Dick wasn't happen that Damian was made the new Robin, but he eventually came to expect it and Damian. Who he tries to be a big brother to, but Damian wasn't having any of it.

When one of Damian's acts got him to be placed with the Teen Titans to teach him teamwork, Dick drove him to their tower while trying to help Damian come to terms with the idea of working beside people who are close to his own age than with adults. Soon after Damian came to except his place in the Titans, Dick returned to his old team so he can help him and the others on missions.

Just as John Kent brings the kid out of Damian, fans feel that Dick is the one that helps him find a place in the Batfamily. The DickDami moments in the animated DC Universe Movies is what gets fans to focus the family-ship in that fandom the most, as well as the DC Comics fandom for the same reasons. When Bruce disappeared and Dick made Damian when he put on the cowl, they felt that Dick had also became a father-like figure to Damian, until Bruce returned. Along with Injustice fans liking the way Damian wanted to honor Dick by becoming the next Nightwing, even though many weren't fund of the fact that Damian was the one who killed Dick; until they learned that it really was an accident. Similar to how Dick has served as Bruce's light in the darkness, fans feel that he could do the same for Damian.

Due to the way Young Justice has had a young Damian appear in it twice, it got a few fans to wonder if the series plans to have Dick or any other member of the Batfamily to either meet or at least come aware of Damian's exitance. There have been a few YJ fanfics that do have Dick meet an older Damian from the future or one of the other Earths. Along with imagining that Dick and Damian's bond in the Young Justice universe might be like.

On AO3, there are over 3600 gen fanfics on them.
