Fire Emblem: Three Houses[]

Part I:White Clouds[]

Dimitri and Claude first become acquainted with each other as students of Garreg Mach Monastery's Officer's Academy Class of 1180. As the next leaders of their native factions - the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus for Dimitri and the Leicester Alliance for Claude - the two are made the leaders of two of the Academy's respective houses: the Blue Lions and the Golden Deer. Early in the year, the two of them are joined by Black Eagles leader and future Adrestian Emperor Edelgard for a training exercise but are attacked by a group of bandits out for them specifically. Claude runs in the hopes of making a strategic retreat but Dimitri mistakes it for acting as a decoy and decides to follow him. This, in turn, causes Edelgard to follow - making all three draw the bandit force to nearby Remire Village. This turns into a good thing as they get the help of former Knight of Seiros-turned-mercenary Jeralt, his mercenary band, and especially his child Byleth.

Following the battle, as the leaders thank Byleth for their help, Claude explains to the other leaders what he was trying to do. The explanation helps Dimitri understand the situation but starts a small argument between him and Edelgard when she scolds him for not seeing what Claude was trying to do. Moving to other topics, Dimitri asks Byleth to come with him to Faerghus as their skills could be of great use there. Claude, however, scolds him and Edelgard for trying to poach someone after just meeting them - when he was going to get to know them better before offering. The discussion is cut short when the group is escorted back to Garreg Mach, where Byleth is quickly made an instructor for one of the three houses.

Regardless of who Byleth chooses to teach, Dimitri and Claude resume their studies in the Academy, starting with the two participating in a mock battle in the Monastery's practice field later in the month. Beforehand, Claude happens upon Dimitri and futiliy attempts to eavesdrop on the strategy he plans to use. During the mock battle, Claude tries to distract Dimitri by insinuating that he has "a thing" for Edelgard. But Dimitri doesn't take the bait, and Claude promises to find a better way to ruffle his feathers next time. The class Byleth teaches ultimately wins the mock battle, and the two go back to their normal Academy activities - or attempt to, as the two become embroiled in Garreg Mach's surprise conflict with the mysterious "Flame Emperor".

The mock battle ultimately served as a prelude to a more momentous Academy event six months later: the Battle of the Eagle and Lion - a large scale fight between the three houses held at Grondor Field. Overseen by the Church of Seiros, Dimitri and Claude command their houses to battle each other and Edelgard's Black Eagles for victory. If Dimitri and Claude face each other, Claude tells Dimitri that he'll let him win as long as he gets the physical prize of the event. Again, however, Dimitri sees right though Claude's scheme and notes he's trying to anger him. With his scheme not working, Claude decides he'll have to win fair and square, which Dimitri gladfully accepts. The Battle of the Eagle and Lion ultimately ends with the victory of Byleth's chosen class. Afterward, the leaders and Byleth gather to talk about their performance, with Dimitri and Claude complimenting each other for how well they performed. After affirming that they hope to never use the experience from the battle in the future, Claude proposes a feast in celebration that Dimitri happily agrees to.

The affirmation doesn't last as, four months later, both Dimitri and Claude become involved in a raid on Garreg Mach's Holy Tomb led by the Flame Emperor. The battle ends with their mask falling off - revealing them to be Edelgard. The two of them are shocked by this, with Dimitri taking it much worse due to her and Edelgard's previous history, but don't have much time to question her as she manages to escape. Edelgard soon reveals she's Emperor of Adrestia before declaring war on the Church of Seiros - starting with launching an assault on Garreg Mach. Dimitri, Claude, and their respective houses join the Knights in defending the monastery. It's during the tail-end of the battle that the two witness a large dragon - in truth, the Church's archbishop Rhea - join the battle against the Empire. The battle ends when both Rhea and Byleth go missing, forcing Dimitri and Claude to retreat.

Part II: Azure Moon[]

In the five years after Garreg Mach's fall, Claude became leader of a fractured Leicester Alliance while a maddened Dimitri had to go into hiding thanks to Faerghus' court mage taking his power. Byleth, however, returned to Dimitri and began helping him. Largely focused on his vengeance against Edelgard, Dimitri agrees to help out Claude's anti-empire half of the Alliance by subduing the pro-empire half before the two unified groups march on the Empire. The two end up meeting Edelgard's army at Grondor Field - just like the Battle of the Eagle and Lion five years ago, with Claude solemnly noting it as one of the worst class reunions in history but Dimitri too focused on Edelgard to care. Knowing that Dimitri and Claude can potentially ally, Edelgard has her forces cause enough chaos that no factions can determine friend from foe. It works as Dimitri's and Claude's forces are forced against each other. Facing each other, Claude tries to tell Dimitri that nothing is gained by fighting each other, but Dimitri is too far gone to reach. The battle finally ends with Dimitri's army proving victorious as Claude and Edelgard both fall back to their respective capitals.

The immediate aftermath of the Battle of Grondor Field starts a series of events that break Dimitri out of his severe bloodlust - giving him the clarity to lead his forces in retaking the Kingdom. It's after doing so that Dimitri receives a message from Claude, revealing that an Imperial force is attacking the Alliance capital of Derdriu. Despite his more tempered need for revenge against Edelgard, Dimitri decides to lead a force and help Claude. Upon Dimitri's arrival, Claude is content that his plea for help went answered. Regrouping with each other, Dimitri asks if Claude is okay, to which the Alliance leader remarks that it's just like him to recruit someone after snatching them from the jaws of death. With Claude's and the Alliance's help, Dimitri's army manages to rout the Imperial force and kill their leader.

Following the battle, Dimitri and Claude reunite with the latter thankful for his help. Dimitri quickly notes that - with the way his forces were set up in the battle - Claude was banking on him to arrive and help out. At that, Claude admits he took a larger risk than usual with sending the message to Dimitri given the last time they met was at Grondor. Knowing what Claude risked, Dimitri tells him that he takes too many risks for his liking - and Claude agrees before handing Dimitri his Heroes Relic Failnaught and announcing that he's dissolving the Leicester Alliance. Dimitri is dumbfounded by this, prompting Claude to reveal that the former Alliance is willingly joining the Kingdom and that he is leaving Fódlan for his own reasons. Before leaving, Claude reveals that the Imperial capital of Enbarr is where Rhea is being kept - and warns Dimitri not to take too many burdens by himself.

Part II:Verdant Wind[]

In the five years after Garreg Mach's fall, Dimitri was sentenced to death by his court mage in a power grab while Claude became leader of a fractured Leicester Alliance, with him leading the half that opposes the Empire. Claude soon gets help from a returned Byleth in reunifying the Alliance before mobilizing against an Imperial army - led by Edelgard - gathering at Fort Merceus. The two armies meet at Grondor Field and are also join by a splinter Kingdom force led by an enraged Dimitri. Seeing Dimitri's enraged state, Claude - while thankful that he's alive - remarks that it's unlikely he'll want to join forces and this gets further enflamed when Edelgard's army starts causing chaos to turn the two armies against each other. The chaos ends up with Claude facing Dimitri, who's determined to kill Edelgard no matter who's in the way. Claude's attempts to reason with Dimitri about the senseless slaughter fall on deaf ears and the Alliance leader has no choice but to stand firm against the savage king. Following the battle, which causes the Empire to fall back, Claude learns that Dimitri was pursuing Edelgard - only to collapse as he was surrounded by Imperial troops. Claude is saddened by all of Dimitri's efforts being in vain.

Fire Emblem Heroes[]

Dimitri and Claude are two of the heroes that the player can summon separately via the Breidablik using orbs to help Alfonse and his sister Sharena defending their kingdom Askr from the Emblian Empire. Unlike in their original game, Dimitri and Claude can develop a bond via support. They can raise their level of support in the following ranks: C, B, A and S if they stand together in the gameplay. Both Dimitri and Claude have four variants beyond their base forms

The two received summer-themed variants in the "Summer Vacation" focus from June 2022. In the associated paralogue, the two of them (along with Edelgard) take a beach vacation on the order of Kiran. Dimitri believes the vacation to be a good opportunity for some training, but Claude and Edelgard point out they're supposed to relax and that the order made the vacation seem important - which was point since Dimitri wouldn't have gone, otherwise. Dimitri doesn't listen as he challenges Claude to a swimming race to a distant rock as warmup. Claude doesn't get the opportunity to fully voice a complaint as Dimitri immediately sets off - leaving him to try and chase after the prince. Claude continues trying to explain to Dimitri that they need to relax after making it back to shore and reuniting with Edelgard and her new friends. After seeing Dimitri's insistence on training, Edelgard reveals that she brought Sylvain and Ingrid along to finally convince him, which Claude notes is a smooth move.

In addition, both Dimitri and Claude have both a Legendary and Brave variant. Their Legendary variants feature their Three House appearance post-timeskip and wielding their respective Heroes Relics. Their Brave variants, both released in the same year (2020), feature them in their respective final classes (Great Lord and Barbarossa). The two also appear together as enemies in several maps including the final part of Book III's Chapter 9 and the Heroic Ordeal of Tiki's Brave variant.

Fanon[]

DimiClaude is a popular ship in the Fire Emblem fandom. One thing that helps the ship's popularity is that Claude and Dimitri remain relatively friendly post-timeskip even when they have to directly fight each other. Claude's putting faith in Dimitri in Three Houses and the inverse in Three Hopes tend to prove this. This ship is rivalled predominately by Dimitri's and Claude's respective ships with Byleth, alongside others like Dimilix, Dimigard, Claurenz, and HilClaude.

On AO3, there are currently 1900+ written works It's Claude's second-most written ship behind Claudeleth and Dimitri's third-most behind Dimileth and Dimilix.
