- — Dimitri to Byleth
Dimileth is the non-binary ship between Dimitri and Byleth from the Fire Emblem fandom.
Canon[]
Pre-Academy[]
Dimitri and Byleth first meet when Byleth and their father, Jeralt rescue him along with Edelgard and Claude from bandits. Byleth's display of bravery and skills as a mercenary greatly impresses the three lords. Dimitri praises Byleth for their battle prowess and proposes that they consider returning to the kingdom with him. According to Byleth's first impression of Dimitri, he seems to be a sincere man but they sense a darkness within him.
Byleth and Jeralt are summoned to Garegg Mach Monastery. Upon arriving at the monastery, the three lords walk alongside Byleth to which Dimitri offers to show them around. Byleth is then given the choice of leading one of the academy's three houses in which Dimitri is the house leader of the Blue Lions. Before making a final decision, Byleth is tasked to talk to the house leaders about their class. Dimitri apologizes to Byleth for not formally introducing himself the other day. He welcomes them to the monastery and once again, thanks them for rescuing them.
Blue Lions Route[]

Byleth wants to celebrate their victory
If Byleth chose to teach the Blue Lions, Dimitri and Byleth grow closer. Dimitri thinks highly of Byleth's skills and will often shower them sincerely with praise. Despite this admiration, at one point, Dimitri admits to Byleth that their lack of emotion and indifference about killing their enemies bothered him. However, as he spent more time with Byleth and got to know them better, he sees that they aren't like that at all. He tells Byleth that he can trust them wholeheartedly.
Dimitri doesn't come off unhinged for some time until their hostile encounters with the Flame Emperor and Those Who Slither in the Dark. After the remire village incident, Dimitri tells Byleth about the Tragedy of Duscur which took the lives of his family and close friends. Being the only survivor of the tragedy, Dimitri reveals to Byleth that the reason he came to the academy is for revenge. When he leaves the room, Byleth contemplates on what he said.
Later on during the Ethereal moon, a ball is held. Byleth steps out of the celebration only to come across Dimitri who was also worn out by the festivities. Dimitri confides to Byleth about his stepsister, Edelgard. He recalls the fond memories he shared with Edelgard as a child and how he gave her a dagger as a parting gift. Byleth insists that he should reconnect with his stepsister but he says its far too late for that. If Byleth has the highest support points with Dimitri or if Dimitri is chosen for the goddess tower event, he will invite Byleth to spend time with him and eventually go to the tower. Otherwise, he will go back to the ball.

Dimitri tries to console a grieving Byleth
After Jeralt's death, Byleth is stricken with grief and refuses to go out of their room for some time. When they do come out, they go to Jeralt's quarters to read his journal. Instead of Alois, Dimitri himself will come to see Byleth. Dimitri, seeing the emotional state of his professor, consoles them and assures them that he will cover for them for Lady Rhea. He also tells Byleth that they have to find something to keep living for despite the sadness. He also shares a bit of how he felt when he lost his family too and how picking himself back again gave him the will the go on living. Before he leaves Byleth alone, he tells them that he intends to stand by their side no matter what happens. Later on when Byleth finally comes outside, Dimitri will be relieved to see them. However, remembering the injustice of Jeralt's death, he tells Byleth that he would kill anyone if they ask him of it.
The whereabouts of Jeralt's killers are found and Byleth is determined to avenge their father. Dimitri gladly offers to help. Byleth chases after Kronya who retreats further into the forest. There, Solon banishes Byleth into the darkness. The students are shocked to see their Professor disappear. Dimitri is enraged at what Solon had done to their professor and becomes ruthless. Byleth fuses with Sothis and returns to defeat Solon. After the battle, Dimitri is relieved that Byleth is not hurt. Byleth faints from exhaustion and Dimitri carries them back to camp.
Dimitri's headaches become even more frequent. He becomes more restless and cannot sleep. Fits of his crumbling mental stability become more apparent. Dedue insists that he should rest and asks Byleth that they ask of the same too as Dimitri would likely listen more to them. Felix also tells Byleth that Dimitri is becoming worse every passing day and that Byleth should do something about it. However, with the recent events and the upcoming mission at the holy tomb, Dimitri disregards their concerns and instead, assures Byleth that he would not let them down.

Byleth attempts to stop Dimitri
The last thread of Dimitri's sanity snaps when the Flame Emperor is unmasked and revealed to be Edelgard. As Dimitri approaches Edelgard and her forces, Byleth is visibly worried and attempts to stop Dimitri from killing his stepsister but he shoves their hand away. Outraged over Edelgard's perceived involvement in his family's death, Dimitri snaps and slaughters her remaining forces forcing her to retreat.
Edelgard ascends the Adrestian Empire's throne and declares war on the Church of Seiros. Dimitri fights beside Claude in the front lines to protect the Monastery from invasion. Although Edelgard and her vanguard are repelled, the invaders are reinforced by a larger army, forcing Rhea to enter the fray as The Immaculate One. Byleth attempts to aid her, but Thales sends them plummeting into a ravine. Garegg Mach falls. Byleth goes missing for five years.
Time Skip: Azure Moon[]
Dimitri is framed and sentenced by Cornelia for the murder of his Uncle Rufus. The disappearance of Byleth and Dedue's apparent sacrifice further deranged Dimitri's already crumbled sanity. After he escapes his execution in Fhirdiad, he is presumed dead by many. He then lives a solitary life as a vagabond wandering aimlessly and at some point, lived in the slums. Rumors of a sadistic warrior capable of slaying scores of soldiers begin to propagate throughout the Empire.

Byleth reunites with Dimitri after five years
Byleth is awoken by Sothis and returns to the monastery in hopes of reuniting with their students. In the Goddess tower, Byleth stumbles upon corpses of imperial soldiers and finds Dimitri, now a shell of his former self, alone in the ruins of the Monastery. Byleth walks over to him and reaches for his hand but he looks away and refuses to reach back. He mistakes Byleth for a ghost but realizes that they are alive.
Byleth and Dimitri eventually reunite with the rest of the Blue Lions along with the Knights of Seiros. Dimitri immediately plans on killing Edelgard by mobilizing his allies. With Byleth as the acting leader of the church of Seiros, together, they intend to stop Edelgard's conquest.

Byleth reaches out to Dimitri
With Dimitri at his worst moments, Byleth continues to aid him and never gives up on him just as their allies hope that they can bring him back to his senses. Some time after Rodrigue's sacrifice, a devastated Dimitri attempts to set out for Enbarr but Byleth stops him. Dimitri despairs at how its pointless to move on for the sake of the dead to which Byleth reminds him that he should live for what he believes in instead. As a heavy downpour begins to fall, Byleth offers their hand to Dimitri and this time, Dimitri finally accepts their hand noting how warm it is. Dimitri begins to question what he is really fighting for and begins to apologize to everyone for his foolishness and to atone for his sins. Byleth and The Blue lions then continue to fight alongside him.

People rejoicing at the return of their king
Byleth helps Dimitri reclaim the kingdom and save his people from Cornelia's tyranny. With Byleth's insistence that he face his people, Dimitri with Byleth and Gilbert at his side, reluctantly walks out onto the castle balcony to find the people of Faerghus cheering his return. Dimitri takes his rightful place as King of Faerghus. After reclaiming the capital, a celebration was held. Dimitri finds Byleth outside and asks if they have worn out from the festivities. He confides in Byleth that he was always afraid of going near the graves of his loved ones but now he knows that he shouldn't stay away forever. He thanks Byleth for teaching him how to live and laments how he would have died a fruitless death in battle if Byleth wasn't there with him.
Dimitri is devastated to know of his stepmother, Patricia's likely involvement in the tragedy of Duscur. Byleth finds him in the Cathedral at night, pondering over the revelation about Patricia. Dimitri tells Byleth that even if his stepmother never loved him, he is not to be pitied as he has dear friends and allies who cares for him and now, he has Byleth by his side.

After Dimitri defeats a transformed Edelgard in battle, he attempts to reconcile with his stepsister. Byleth smiles at the sight of the two until Edelgard throws the dagger to his shoulder prompting him to kill her. Dimitri and Byleth walks away from the throne room but as they are about to step outside, Dimitri, forlorn, stops and tries to look back but Byleth grabs his hand with a pleading expression. They then walk out of the throne room together with the people cheering outside.
Post-War: Epilogue[]
After five and a half years of war, Fódlan is united as the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus. Prince Dimitri formally ascended the throne, beginning his reign as the king of the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus. Byleth is appointed as the new archbishop. Texts from the time claim that as the king sought to create a world free from oppression, Byleth was there to continue to guide him through it all.
Dimitri and Byleth's S-Support[]
Before the coronation, if Female Byleth chooses to spend the rest of her life with Dimitri, she will meet him at the Goddess Tower. Dimitri will tell Byleth that he doesn't know how long it has been since he was kept awake by hopes for the future instead of his nightmares. Dimitri recounts how far they have come. From a student and a professor and now, an Archbishop and a king. Byleth tells Dimitri that despite their stations, they're still the same. He agrees and tells her how she has always been there for him through everything and that she is his beloved. To Byleth's surprise, Dimitri gathers enough courage and gives her a ring. Met with her silence, Dimitri fears that the feeling is not mutual and tells her that he would understand and just walk away. Byleth corrects Dimitri and gives her ring to him in exchange.
Paired Ending[]
Female Byleth and Dimitri's paired ending is a literal union of church and state that gives everyone in Fódlan cause for celebration. Together, they devoted themselves to improving the life of the people as well as reforming the church and the state from the inside and out. And while their different duties do cause debates at times, ultimately they're too madly in love to let it get in the way of their relationship. It is also said that they remained in love for the rest of their days.
Silver Snow[]
Dimitri is presumed dead at the start of part 2. However, later it is revealed that he went into hiding in the Dukedom of Fraldarius after Dedue helped him escape execution in Fhirdiad. When Byleth and the Resistance Army takes the Great Bridge of Myrddin, Gilbert is sent by Dimitri to propose cooperation with Faerghus. If Byleth agress to join forces with Dimitri, Seteth will intervene and remind them that they had just finished a battle and that it is too reckless to advance to gronder right away after a battle.
Seteth allows them safe passage across the bridge, but declines to join them. Subsequently, news reaches Garreg Mach Monastery that Dimitri has died after his forces were decimated routing the Imperial Army at the Battle of Gronder Field. Byleth, Seteth and Flayn are devastated to hear the news of his death.
During that night, Dimitri will appear before Byleth. He laments the deaths of Rodrigue, Gilbert, and Dedue as well as his inability to restore the Kingdom or defeat the Empire. He tells Byleth that he came here to explain his decision to them but before Dimitri is able to finish, Byleth is woken up by Seteth and the prince is nowhere to be seen. Seteth tells Byleth that if someone did come here to see them, then that person wanted only to see his face and that perhaps, they wanted Byleth to guide them.
The scene might have been Byleth dreaming about Dimitri. However, because Byleth never saw Dimitri in the last five years, they would not know what he looks like and thus, it could have been Dimitri's ghost himself who comes to see Byleth.
Moments[]
- In Chapter 6: Rumors of a Reaper, Byleth smiles genuinely for the first time and if Byleth repeats the same expression as Dimitri asks of them, his support points will go up. In the English localization, he describes Byleth's smile as "mesmerizing" while the rough translation for the Japanese version is him saying that he "got carried away" at the sight.
- After winning the battle of the Eagle and the Lion, Dimitri tells Byleth that he loves seeing them happy like this and that the look on their face may be the best reward of the day.
- After the celebration, Dimitri tells Byleth about how wonderful the day has been and opens up to them about his first impression on Byleth and admits that he is glad to have met them. However, their conversation is interrupted by Sylvain with the rest of the Blue Lions. If Byleth is female, Sylvain interrupts by telling the two that they're being cozy without him. For male Byleth, Sylvain will ask to join them instead.
- In Sothis' Paralogue, Tales of the Red Canyon, Dimitri is the only lord who scolds Byleth for venturing into the canyon alone while most of the characters took it as good battle experience.
- In Chapter 10: Where the Goddess Dwells, after Byleth tells Dimitri they received powers from the Goddess, He enthusiastically alludes to Byleth being Seiros. He cuts himself before he could say who he would be. It's either Dimitri is referring to Nemesis, the fell king, foreshadowing his descent into darkness or the first emperor, Wilhelm who supported and saved Saint Seiros as well as giving his all to the cause of defeating Nemesis.
- In their B-Support, Dimitri offers to take Byleth to dinner as thanks for helping him teach swordsmanship to the children.
- In the time skip, tea time is held in Byleth's room. One of Dimitri's unique tea time dialogue, is him telling Byleth that he would invite them to his quarters next but his room is "too bare". He also notes how he feels comfortable and could relax in Byleth's room for a long while.
- In Chapter 20: The Impregnable Fortress, Before the battle, Dimitri recalls how The Death Knight had a strange satisfaction in fighting Byleth. He tells Byleth to be careful. If Dimitri is put against him, the Death Knight will reproach Dimitri for standing between him and Byleth to which Dimitri responds that he would.

Fanon[]
Being a Lord x Avatar ship, Dimileth is one of the most popular romances of Fire Emblem. Although, Dimitri can only be romanced by a female Byleth, in the JP community, Dimitri/Male Byleth is by far the most popular ship for male Byleth despite the fact that the two cannot actually S-support in the game. This can also be attributed to the fact that most of of Dimitri's dialogue to Byleth regardless of gender, do not change except for a few instances.
Fans love the ship's subversive take on the classic "beauty and the beast" trope because right from the start, Byleth knew Dimitri was sincere but also not dismissing the fact that a certain darkness seems to loom behind his kind demeanor. The same goes for Dimitri as he knew that he could never trust someone who didn't flinch when they killed and yet, he trusted Byleth with all his heart. The shift in their relationship in part 1 & 2, is that Byleth is initially the stoic "ashen demon" who learns from their time with the students and with Dimitri's encouragement to be more empathetic and warm. In turn, Dimitri learns again from his Professor how to regain his compassion and the kindness that he lost sight of. There's a recurring motif in the animated cut scenes of Byleth being the light who brings Dimitri out of darkness.
Because of many instances of Dimitri often being pleased whenever he sees Byleth happy, many fans speculate that Dimitri unknowingly (or secretly) developed a crush on Byleth right from the start or earlier in the game.
Fans also sees that Dimitri and Byleth parallels Byleth's parents, Jeralt and Sitri. As Jeralt once told Byleth that it always made him happy seeing their Mother smile. On multiple occasions, Dimitri has always shown to be pleased whenever he sees Byleth happy. In addition, Dimitri also finds Byleth eating a lot during victory celebrations fascinating. Both Jeralt and Dimitri are from Faerghus. Lance wielders and have a soft spot for someone they love.
In some of Dimitri's paired endings, he will always die earlier than his partner due to illness. Because of his paired ending with Byleth stating that they loved each other for the rest of their days, some fans speculate that Byleth makes Dimitri immortal. However, in fan fiction, many fans also love the idea of Dimitri being reincarnated and Byleth meeting him again.

Trivia[]
- "A place to rest" is the music that plays in majority of the S-supports in the game. Dimitri is the only Lord in which the music for his S-support is "Somewhere to belong". This usually plays only on support conversations and platonic S-Supports. However, Hubert is also the other exception.
- In Chapter 10: Where the Goddess Dwells, Dimitri is the only lord who will carry Byleth back to camp regardless of their gender. If Byleth is female, Dimitri will first apologize before carrying her. This could be due to Dimitri having a male retainer.
- In the goddess tower event, Dimitri asks Byleth if they should wish that "we'll be together forever". There's a moment of silence of between the two as Byleth gives Dimitri a questioning look. To break the silence, he plays it off as a joke. Byleth is visibly disappointed regardless of the response chosen. He apologizes to Byleth and laments that he isn't even sure if he can really "have a future to promise to someone". Byleth responds to this with a smile however.
- Given the famous reputation of the Goddess Tower and the legend, Dimitri suggesting to wish to be "Together forever" with Byleth already seems like a marriage proposal if not a Love confession. In another context in the game, in the ending cut scene of Ingrid's Paralogue: Rumored Nuptials, Dorothea teases Ingrid that they will be "Together forever" when she is given a ring from Ingrid, having interpreted it as a marriage proposal.
- Both Dimitri and Byleth earned themselves titles of 'demons' due to their skill and ruthlessness in battle. Byleth being the "Ashen Demon" while Dimitri is called the "One-eyed demon" in the post time skip. He is also called the "Boar Prince" by Felix.
- Dimitri and Byleth have an identical after battle quote in post time skip:
- Dimitri: "I swear it wasn't in vain."
- Byleth: "It won't be in vain."
- Due to Dimitri's unavailability to deepen bonds in most of part 2, raising his support points by way of Dialogue choices is only possible during part 1. When Dimitri is finally able to raise his supports again, whatever the choice Byleth responds with won't affect his support points anymore. Raising support points by viewing his A-support, having tea time, training, eating and cooking with Dimitri will still take effect.
- On Pegasus moon of part 2, during exploration, it is easily missed but Byleth's expression is a frown the whole month.. This could be due to the earlier cutscene where Byleth and Dimitri have a disagreement. Another possibility could be due to Dimitri's infamous dialogue telling Byleth to "Go away."
- Azure moon is the only ending mural in the game in which Byleth is present together with the route's respective Lord.
- In the English localization of the S-support, Dimitri calls Byleth his "beloved" while in the original translation, he calls Byleth "Irreplaceable" instead.
- On several occasions as seen in tweets, videos, interviews and even in streams, Dimitri's English voice actor, Chris Hackney, says that he ships Dimileth and is also his OTP.
- One hilarious fan favorite moment is in ANIME Impulse's Sneaky Eating Challenge with the Voice Actors of Fire Emblem Three Houses, when Chris was asked who Dimitri's canonical spouse is. Without hesitation, he responds that it's Byleth.
- In another segment of ANIME Impulse 2020 panel with the Voice actors of Fire Emblem Three houses, when the voice actors were asked who they shipped in the game, as ever, Chris Hackney stood by his OTP, Dimileth and mentions how he also likes Dorogrid (Dorothea x Ingrid). Petra's voice actress, Faye Mata also admits that she also ships "the Professor with Dimitri".
- Natsuki Takaya, a japanese manga artist, best known for creating the series Fruits Basket, drew an illustration of Dimitri and female Byleth.
- Kaoru Hagiya, an illustrator for Fire Emblem Cipher, shared his illustration of Dimitri and female Byleth when he featured Dimitri's Cipher art cards.
- In Fire Emblem Heroes, the tactics drill: Over the Azure Moon (Skill Studies 99), features Legendary Dimitri alongside Female Byleth as the only playable characters.
- Dimitri/F!Byleth ranked #1 in the Famitsu Nintendo Dream Pairing poll Magazine while Dimitri/M!Byleth ranked at #5.
