The Rescue[]
Din and the rest of his squad are being cornered by the dark troopers when suddenly an X-Wing flies into the Imperial Cruisers orbit. The X-Wing lands and someone steps out and starts taking out the troopers. Bo see's the person on screen wielding a lightsaber and says it's a jedi, gaining Din's attention. Grogu and Din then watch the Jedi through the screen as he takes out all the Dark Troopers blocking his way. Din tells the squad to open the doors before doing so himself. The jedi then enters and removes his hood, revealed to be Luke Skywalker. Din asks if he's a jedi, and Luke confirms that he is. Luke looks to Grogu and tells him to come, but Din says that he doesn't want to. Luke says that Grogu wants Din's permission. He is powerful in the force, but it's nothing without training. Luke says that he will give his life to protect Grogu, but he won't be safe till he masters his abilities. Din then gives his permission to Grogu, and lets him walk to Luke. They share a nod and Luke tells him goodbye as he takes Grogu away.

Fanon[]

DinLuke started to get shipped after the season two finale of The Mandalorian. It seemed to start as a joke, mostly regarding the two raising Grogu together. Or possibly in a custody battle. Most fans will depict the two falling in love over raising Grogu. This also leads to art and fics where Din ends up meeting Han and Leia, as well as other Original Trilogy characters. Some will also have Din and Han previously know each other, leading to misunderstandings. Shippers tend to pair them alongside Han/Leia in fics.
Sometimes Finn from the sequel trilogy will also be added to fanon. Fans will have Din and Luke adopt and raise Finn alongside Grogu. This came about due to Finn being force sensitive and never having his family be revealed in the official canon.
Fans of the ship also see potential conflict, as Luke is a Jedi and Din is a Mandalorian. Given that the two groups are "ancient enemies" there can be external conflict from the two getting together. Due to Luke's lack of formal Jedi training, and Din's separation from most of Mandalorian culture they would be entirely unaware of it and most of the problems would arise from others in their groups.
There are also jokes about Luke being into Din due to his "daddy issues". Mostly due to Din being Grogu's single dad, and being a helmet wearing warrior like Darth Vader. There's also a lot of helmet based frustration.
On AO3, DinLuke is the most written ship for Luke and the second most written for Din. It is also the fourth most written ship in The Mandalorian (TV) tag. It's the most written romantic relationship in the tag, as well as the most written romance for Din that doesn't involve an OC, or "the reader". There are currently 3300+ written works.
