Direne is the friend ship between DJ and Irene from the Total Drama fandom.

NEWF KIDS ON THE ROCK
The contestants went to Newfoundland and DJ's challenge was to kiss a fish passionately. DJ didn't want to do the challenge because he was trying to lose, not wanting to hurt any more animals with his Egyptian curse. Alejandro encouraged DJ to kiss the fish by showing him that the fish had a birthmark on it of the Eye of Anubis, which was good luck that would help him to cancel out his Egyptian curse. DJ believed this and passionately started making out with Irene, which made Irene fall head over heels for him. DJ ended up winning this challenge for his team of one, as Tyler's fish just slapped him across the face, not feeling the same love for him as Irene had for DJ. Not wanting to part ways with Irene, DJ put her in a fishbowl and carried her around with him. He went to to Alejandro to thank him for teaching him about Irene's good luck. Unbeknownst to DJ, however, Alejandro painted the Eye of Anubis onto Irene, so the good luck that came from her was all in his head.
JAMAICAN ME CRAZY
DJ kept Irene with him as a pet and relaxed in his first class seat with her. He even went as far as to label Irene as an unofficial "teammate". DJ was now motivated to stay in the game, now that he had Irene with him as his good luck charm. This worried Alejandro as he was worried that Irene actually was giving DJ good luck. That day, the teams went to Jamaica for their challenge to ride around on some skateboards. Alejandro witnessed how DJ was nailing every single one of the challenges with ease, thanks to him having Irene with him. Before DJ took his turn on the final waterslide, Alejandro manipulated him by telling him that he painted the Eye of Anubis on Irene so she wasn't good luck after all. This threw DJ off his mojo and made him decide to leave Irene on the floor so that he wouldn't risk hurting her when he took his turn, now believing that he was still cursed. Without Irene by his side DJ crashed and burned on the waterslide ride, lost the challenge, and got eliminated. This is the last time DJ and Irene were seen together and the last time Irene was seen in the show, as a whole.

Direne is an extraordinarily uncommon ship in the Total Drama fandom, most likely due to the fact that Irene is an animal. Not a lot of fans even know about this ship's existence. Those who do generally have very little to say about it beyond the fact that it's weird. Those who support it, however, believe that the two make a great couple because of DJ's love of animals and the way that Irene brought DJ good luck, until he sadly stopped believing in her. Direne shippers believe that if DJ restored his faith in Irene, her good luck would have continued to bring him good will and they would have never broken up.
On Wattpad, one shipper by the name glowworm888, asked Total Drama Shipping Opinions about the ship and all they said was "I don't even know what to say about this ship." On Reddit, the user totaldramafan200, created a poll asking fellow Redditors what was the best DJ ship. One of the options was DJ X Irene, which got 6 votes.
