DokSoo is the het ship between Kim Dokja and Han Sooyoung from the Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint fandom.
Canon[]
At first, Kim Dokja and Han Sooyoung had a tense relationship, with Han Sooyoung leading the prophets and altering the storyline. However, over time, they grew closer. Early on, Kim Dokja often teased her about allegedly plagiarizing his favorite novel, though she constantly denied it.[1] When they finally met face-to-face during the King's Road scenarios, their relationship quickly became tense and laced with passive-aggressive — and sometimes outright aggressive — exchanges. Despite this, they reluctantly worked together, eventually cooperating to survive the post-Disaster scenarios.
Eventually, Han Sooyoung became part of Kim Dokja’s Company.[2] Despite their constant bickering and playful insults, their shared battles helped them develop a deep mutual respect for each other’s abilities and flaws.
When Han Sooyoung becomes Yuri di Aristel and is forced to endure decades trapped in a scenario, Kim Dokja is overwhelmed with guilt, feeling that he should have taken her place to spare her that suffering. His deep trust in Han Sooyoung is also evident — he chooses to remain in the 1863rd turn, confident that she will be able to protect and care for everyone in the 3rd turn in his absence.[3]
Like with many of his companions, Kim Dokja struggles to fully grasp how his actions affect Han Sooyoung. Over time, through their shared experiences, Han Sooyoung comes to care for him deeply — even for parts of him he thought no one else valued, like his fixation on "Ways of Survival." She quickly senses that the 49% version of Kim Dokja isn’t right and takes the lead in guiding the group through the scenarios again to save him.[4] The 1863rd turn's Han Sooyoung is even willing to write "Ways of Survival" herself to save the teenage Kim Dokja, despite knowing that the story she creates will eventually become reality and result in countless deaths.[5]
At one point, Persephone proposed Han Sooyoung as a potential match for Kim Dokja, but he turned down the idea.
Quotes[]
- “I watched Han Sooyoung. Her lashes seemed unusually long because of the lingering twilight. It turned out that this person was quite pretty. In fact, Han Sooyoung was a bit young but her looks weren't bad.”
- — Chapter 165: "Kim Dokja’s Love (4)"
- 1863rd Round Han Sooyoung – “Why did you say you wouldn't go back to the third round?”
- Kim Dokja – “...”
- 1863rd Round Han Sooyoung – “You are playing my part over there.... if you didn't go back, that world would've perished. You should know this so why-”
- Kim Dokja – “Let's see... why?”
- 1863rd Round Han Sooyoung – “What?”
- Kim Dokja – “Even without me, the third round would've been fine for a long time.”
- 1863rd Round Han Sooyoung – “How can you be sure?”
- Kim Dokja – “You are there.”
- 1863rd Round Han Sooyoung – “...”
- Kim Dokja – “I believe in the you of the third round.”
- — Chapter 299: "Reader and Writer (5)"
- “Why couldn't I move?
How come I didn't fight alongside Han Sooyoung?
While watching her speak for my stead, why couldn't I voice my own thoughts with her?
"You... suck at telling your own story, that's why."
I pulled the fallen Han Sooyoung in as she looked up at me. Blood flowed out like a river from her waist. It was so vividly red that it all came across as far too unreal to my eyes.
She was bleeding, yet she was still talking to me. "Kim Dokja. I know the end you've been wishing for."
She formed a smile as playful as ever. As if to wipe the blood on my cheek, she rubbed my face while murmuring back to me. "What a pitiful guy you are...."
I frantically tried to stem her bleeding while pulling out my recovery items. Her internal injuries were too severe. She had been wounded far too mercilessly.
Her innards were completely destroyed by the 2nd generation's sword force.
I could save her. If only I had a little more time, if I could just find a proper healer and get her healed, then....
.... But, would I be allowed to do that?
Her hand touching my cheek fell away lifelessly.
I called out Han Sooyoung's name. Over and over again. However, she didn't wake up. What I heard was Yoo Joonghyuk's voice, instead.” - — Chapter 369: A story that can’t be shared (1)
- Han Sooyoung – “You awake now?”
- Kim Dokja – “You....?!”
- Han Sooyoung – “Ahh, so this is how it feels like coming back to life after dying.”
- Kim Dokja – “But, didn't you die.....”
- Han Sooyoung – “I did?”
- Kim Dokja – “...”
- Han Sooyoung – “In any case, Kim Dokja, You can be really adorable sometimes.”
- — Chapter 372: "A story that can't be shared (4)"
- “My face was reflected in her irises, her eyes widening in surprise.
Actually, I wanted to ask her, an author.
As she was a writer, maybe she’d be able to tell me straight.
Tell me that I did good until now - whether I made the wrong choices or not, whether I would get to see the desired conclusion when I reach the end of this story or not.” - — Chapter 372: "A story that can't be shared (4)"
- “I read and re-read the words that Han Sooyoung had written with so much care.
As if I was drunkard walking straight into another world, I voraciously ate up her words. Because that was the only courtesy I could pay to the author of this story as its reader.
And it was fun, god damn it. In some passages, much more so than the 'Ways of Survival".” - — Chapter 377: "Three Methods (1)"
- Han Sooyoung – “In the future when all the scenarios have ended, I may want to get back to writing novels again.”
- Kim Dokja – “...”
- Han Sooyoung – “When that happens, read my novel, okay?”
- Kim Dokja – “Your novel?”
- Han Sooyoung – “I'm giving you the opportunity to become its very first reader.”
- Kim Dokja – “I'm not such a good reader, though.”
- Han Sooyoung – “Don't be an ass and just read it when I tell you to.”
- Kim Dokja – “Fine, fine. I'll definitely read it.”
- Han Sooyoung – “....For real?”
- Kim Dokja - "Yeah, for real."
- Han Sooyoung – “But, it might be over three thousand chapters?”
- Kim Dokja – “That's probably right up my alley, then.”
- Han Sooyoung – “It might be boring, too.”
- Kim Dokja - "It's you writing it, so that's not possible, you know."
- — Chapter 381: "Three Methods (5)"
- “⸢Just like how Yoo Joonghyuk was an imagined character to Kim Dokja, Kim Dokja was exactly like that to Han Sooyoung.⸥
She thought that such a person wouldn’t be real, but...
That very person within the texts was standing right before Han Sooyoung’s eyes.” - — Chapter 487: Omniscient Author's Viewpoint (1)
- “I removed Han Sooyoung’s hands covering my ears.
Her eyes were trembling. My reddened appearance was reflected in her irises. A lengthy wound was running across my cheek; wings were torn, and the Demon King’s horn was broken. I was truly in a mess.
And Han Sooyoung believed in such a mess of a man until now and came this far.” - — Chapter 510: "Have you protected all that you were supposed to protect (3)"
- “"The 'Kim Dokja' I remember is...."
... He was a man who could patiently read a boring novel filled with a ton of exposition that lasted well over three thousand chapters.
"In the future when all the scenarios have ended, I may want to get back to writing novels again. When that happens, read my novel, okay?",
A man who loved stories more than anyone in this whole world.
"Fine, fine. I'll definitely read it.",
"But, it might be over three thousand chapters?"
"That's probably right up my alley, then."
"It might be boring, too."
"It's you writing it, so that's not possible, you know."
Such Kim Dokja might forget about other things, but no way he'd forget about the 'Ways of Survival'.
Was this the fault of the alcohol? It felt as if the heat was gradually spreading even more inside her head.” - — Chapter 520: "The world of zero (4)"
- “Han Sooyoung shook her head grandly and while holding a suction cup, she turned around - only for Jung Heewon carrying a mischievous expression to plonk a suction cup on the former's head first.
"Ah?! What the hell! Take it off! Right now!"
['Han Sooyoung's' Fable fragment has been extracted!]
[Fable fragment, 'Memories of a Lemon Candy', has begun its storytelling.]
"By the way, I've been sucking on that, you know?"
"Okay. So?"
".... You can be so boring sometimes. You know that?",
Jung Heewon spoke up in a teasing tone of voice. "Oh-hoh, would you look at that? Our dear author-nim, why did she omit such a delicious scene from the main story, I wonder?"” - — Chapter 550: "The Eternity and Epilogue (5)"
Fanon[]
In the Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint fandom, DokSoo is frequently depicted as a lively combination of chaotic best friends, playful rivals, and "will-they-won't-they" tension. While many fans enjoy their dynamic as bantering companions, others interpret their interactions as having a romantic spark, imagining them in a teasing yet affectionate relationship.
The interpretations tend to lean into their constant banter, mutual teasing, and deep trust, often exaggerating their tsundere-like interactions. Some fans ship them romantically, seeing their sharp wit, loyalty, and the lengths they go for each other as signs of unresolved romantic tension. Others love their sibling-like bond, with Sooyoung often acting as a sharp-tongued yet fiercely loyal companion who understands parts of Kim Dokja no one else does.
A big reason as to why others ship them is that Han Sooyoung "gets" Kim Dokja in ways even Yoo Joonghyuk doesn't — especially in his obsession with "Ways of Survival" — and that she's willing to break rules, defy logic, or rewrite stories to protect him. Fans also love highlighting their "equal footing" dynamic: both are clever, morally gray, and unapologetically snarky, yet they'd throw themselves into danger for each other.
DokSoo has around 400 works in AO3 as a romantic ship, and more than a thousand as a gen ship. It is a ship that is commonly paired with others such as Joongdok/YooHan, becoming YooHanKim, or SangSoo/DokSang, becoming DokSangSoo.
