—Dominique, about Jeanne, chapter 45.

DomiJeanne is the femslash ship between Dominique de Sade and Jeanne from The Case Study of Vanitas fandom.

Canon[]

Since their first few meetings, Dominique and Jeanne have grown to be close friends, with Dominique looking out for Jeanne.

Domijeanne 1

Their first notable interaction is when Dominique asks Jeanne to dance at the ball in an attempt to tease NoƩ. Jeanne is visibly flustered, worriedly reminding Dominique that she was a bourreau and that it might ruin Dominique's reputation if anyone saw her dancing with one. Dominique tsks and quotes Jeanne a phrase her father said about valuing passions when they appear, and she tells Jeanne that she had no passions that could surpass dancing with her at the moment.

In a chapter short set after their dance, Dominique tells Jeanne how much she enjoyed their time, and that they should meet up together in the future. Jeanne agrees with a blushing smile. Later on, Dominique notices how Jeanne makes an effort to greet her whenever they encounter each other. Pleased, she wonders if Jeanne had taken a liking to her.

Jeanne goes to Dominique while waiting for Luca to finish his work with the aim of getting Vanitas to leave her. Getting teary-eyed, she begs Dominique to advise her in her troubles, seeing as she is a "very socially experienced lady". Domi keeps up her calm demeanor but is internally panicking, wondering how high the bar has been set for her in Jeanne's mind. She admits that she is skilled in navigating society, but keeps her interactions limited to women. Sighing, she calls a distressed Jeanne "adorable" when she remembers what NoĆ© has told her about Vanitas. Quickly, she relays the information—Vanitas could never be interested in someone who fell for him—and suggests that Jeanne pretend to be in love with him in order to direct him away. Jeanne initially opposes that idea, believing that she is unable to even pretend to like him, when Domi suddenly yells out about a fable she had been told before, on how suffering is necessary for a greater benefit.

Jeanne ends up following the advice, declaring her love to Vanitas while Dominique tailing their "date" in a disguise from afar. Dante bumps into Domi while she's watching them and she brushes him off, annoyed at the interruption. She calls it her "duty" to see the date through, having not believed that Jeanne would actually make a move. Domi warns Vanitas of the consequences of messing with "[her] Jeanne", and Dante, who overhears, questions the choice of using Jeanne as a possession. Suddenly, Domi sees Jeanne stopped in the middle of the road and yells aloud for her to be careful, despite the other vampire not being able to hear. Both Domi and Dante watch as Jeanne is left dumbstruck after Vanitas caresses her, and Domi makes the observation that Jeanne is "terribly weak against any kind of kindness!" Dante finally asks Dominique what caused the whole scenario to happen and Domi, unable to keep it in anymore, explains the whole situation to him. Near the end of the date, Dominique and Dante are still tailing the couple. Even though Dante has already grown bored, Dominique forces him to stay.

Veronica says that Dominique's favorites—NoĆ© and Jeanne—were apparently rampaging in GĆ©veaudan. When Domi hears that the senate suggested disposing of Jeanne, she reacts in shock. She worriedly asks what ended up happening to Jeanne but Veronica has no answer. Domi gets up and starts leaving in order to request her father to save Jeanne but the elder sister forbids her.

Upon Jeanne's return to Paris, Luca suddenly barges into Dominique's place after wailing about Jeanne. She reacts worriedly, asking if there is anything wrong. Jeanne admits that she may have genuinely fallen in love with Vanitas, shocking both Dominique & Luca. Later on a pavilion, the two are interrogating Jeanne's newfound admiration for Vanitas. Domi says that it would make sense if she liked NoƩ, as he is strong, dashing, and kind (while Luca cries that he doesn't even want Jeanne falling for him, and Domi agrees), but Vanitas was horrible and had treated her badly. Innocently, Jeanne says that Vanitas had saved her multiple times, so he's a good person. Jeanne smiles, happy to experience romance even as a bourreau. Seeing Jeanne's smile, Dominique blushes and pauses in her questioning for a moment.

But despite all that, Jeanne expresses a concern—she's worried that she may not be able to hold back her desire if she sees Vanitas again. Dominique, already freaked-out shouts that it's shameless even while Jeanne cheerfully mentions that it was what her mother had taught her. Blushing extensively, Dominique suggests that the best way to begin a courtship was by correspondence, so Jeanne asks Luca for his opinion. They see him staring off into space, which Domi uses as proof that Jeanne had shocked him too badly. In her own thoughts, Dominique thinks about how, when she first met Jeanne, Jeanne seemed unconfident due to her position, making Domi want to protect her. Now she sees that there was no need.

Domijeanne ch 53

In Dominique's head, as she is under Mikhail's possession, she makes the decision to fall off the Ferris wheel, believing that it will be better for NoƩ if she died. As she's about to hit the ground, someone scoops her up in their arms. Dominique looks up to see Jeanne carrying her, and asks if she is okay or if she was hurt. Domi abruptly pushes away from Jeanne's arms, brandishing her sword as she warns Jeanne to stay away from her. Suddenly, she shouts "Jeanne... I hate you!!!" Despite this, in Domi's mind, she stops and reminds herself that she mustn't fight with Jeanne. Her younger self regards her with a scathing expression, asking why she shouldn't, as she had always felt Jeanne was in the way of her and NoƩ's relationship. She asks Domi if Jeanne should just disappear, but unsure, the real Domi refuses the idea.

Dominique, not in the right state of mind, begins slashing at Jeanne with her gauntlet. But before she can, however, Mikhail uses his Book to immobilize the Astermite in her weapon.

In a flashback, Luca tells Jeanne to look after Dominique, as he has noticed that she, in comparison to her family members, lacked confidence.

Back at the Hotel Chouchou, Amelia tells NoƩ that Jeanne and Dominique are having a conversation in the dining room, and she suggests that he doesn't bother them. According to Dante, Jeanne had threatened him until he told her where Dominique was.

In Chapter 60, Jeanne tells Dominique that she really loves her and Dominique tells her that she loves her too.

Fanon[]

DomiJeanne is a popular ship within the fandom, on par with other notable ships such as VanoƩ, and shipped alongside that one. It commonly competes with NoƩnique and VaniJeanne.

Dominique is sometimes headcanoned to be queer, as she thinks to herself that she mostly associates with women, not men.[1] Dominique has lovely moments with Jeanne, but sometimes views her as a weak reflection and not as a person. Dominique also never questions Jeanne's needs like Vanitas does her as a person. Although Vanitas' relationship has its toxic points, they respect her as a person, but unfortunately, because of the long-running ship war, they lack understanding of Dominique's character and only see her as a cute ship.

Whenever there's a ship war, DomiJeanne is often portrayed as the non-toxic ship. It goes against the grain of Vanitas's portrayal of race respect. Many fans either ship DomiJeanne or like Domi as a character only.

Domi is a rich character who doesn't understand the hardships and has a habit of discriminating against her siblings, sometimes discriminating against Noe, Jeanne, and Dante without realizing it, and indirectly obstructing the rights of the lower class. She has character development, but still, reading to understand the characters and seeing their relationship as unhealthy is still a problem in the Vanitas fandom.
