DonLouie is the family ship between Donald Duck and Louie Duck from the DuckTales fandom.

Canon[]

Louie Duck is one of Donald's troublesome nephews, who are well known for pulling pranks on their uncle and pressing his buttons. They mostly do it for fun as they enjoy getting a reaction from him, but there been times when Donald gives them just cause. Like when he denies the three their fun, from the trouble they have caused him, Donald pranking them for a change or when they affect Donald's job (that changes between Donald cartoon shorts), or simply time that Donald wants to himself. Without the three disturbing his peace and quiet moments alone with their noisy, chaotic games.

There have been times, depending on the media, that Huey, Dewey and Louie don't cause Donald any trouble at all. With him mostly been featured as the guardian of the triplets, since Donald's sister and the mother of the three didn't have many media appearances or mentions outside the classic comics. Until the 2017 reboot of DuckTales came out.

Classic Cartoons[]

Throughout most of the older animated shorts, Louie functions as part of a single unit with his brothers Huey and Dewey. There is little about his relationship with his uncle Donald that isn't shared with the other triplets.

Due to the disappearance of his mother Della, Louie is under the guardianship of his Uncle Donald at the beginning of the series. Louie and his brothers often find this stifling, as Donald is incredibly overprotective. It gets to the point that, in the series premiere "Woo-oo!", Louie and his brothers attempt to hurry Donald off their houseboat to his latest job interview before their babysitter has arrived. Louie makes a point of assisting Donald into a shirt, jacket, and tie so as to make a good impression for the interview. After Donald learns that the babysitter is lost-implied to be the work of Louie and his brothers-Louie tries to convince Donald that they can be left on their own while Donald is at his interview.

Unfortunately for their plans, Dewey's attempts to hotwire the houseboat arouse Donald's suspicions, and he demands to know where Dewey is. Louie attempts to claim that Dewey is asleep, but Donald quickly determines that his nephews were planning to take the boat on a joyride to Cape Suzette. Reluctantly, Donald decides that his only option is to take the boys to see Scrooge McDuck, which Louie interprets as his uncle "finally...sell[ing]" the three of them. Upon hearing that Donald intends to have Scrooge watch the three of them, Louie is excited despite Donald's efforts to moderate their expectations.

Later, as Donald introduces the triplets to their great-uncle Scrooge, he utters a warning against bad behavior that Louie and his brothers mistake for instruction aimed at them when in reality Donald was addressing Scrooge. After the boys meet Webby Vanderquack and are told that Donald used to be Scrooge's adventuring sidekick, Louie rejects the information as bogus. When Scrooge then takes the boy on an adventure, Louie speaks to Donald on the phone and lies to him about what they're up to. After the adventure, Donald admits that he has the tendency to go overboard in keeping the boys safe, with Louie taking a jab at Donald's attempt to downplay it.

Donald and Louie's relationship has long been a staple of works in which they appear, though usually as a component of Donald's interactions with all three of his triplet nephews. It is only in series like Quack Pack and the 2017 reboot of DuckTales that Louie has a distinctive personality and thus meaningful solo interactions with his uncle.

On AO3 DonLouie is the seventh most written ship for Donald. There are currently 200+ written works.
