The Three Caballeros[]
Receiving three big presents for his birthday from his friend José, Donald meets Panchito for the first time when he opens the present from Mexico. Though he has never met Donald before, Panchito instantly recognizes him (and José). He gives both of them a sombrero and tells them that they're now three gay Caballeros. Panchito then sings the titular song with them, at the end of which he disappears under his hat. When Donald picks it up, a cactus-like formation comes out before Panchito himself. When Donald asks what it is, Panchito tells him that it's his gift from Mexico: a piñata. But when Donald asks what a piñata is, Panchito informs him of it being a gift filled with all sorts of surprises, perfect for Christmas. Donald then breaks into a performance of Jingle Bells, but Panchito kindly stops him, explaining that Mexicans don't sing Jingle Bells. Instead, he tells them that Mexican children sing Las Posadas, as a tradition reminiscent of the journey of Mary and Joseph of Nazareth, with children being allowed to go into a neighbors house when they sing and then break a piñata.
He tells Donald that it's now time to break his piñata, but before he could do so, he blindfolds him, as tradition. He has a good laugh with José at Donald's expense as they work together to pull the piñata too high for Donald to smack it. After Donald finally gets to hit it, Panchito asks if Donald sees what he meant with it being full of surprises. He then tells the two of them of the story of Mexico being in its flag. José is incredibly moved by Panchito's story and Donald agrees. Panchito then offers them a real trip to Mexico and summons a magic carpet to transport them there, the three of them fly into Panchito's picture after he brings it to life. After they leave the picture on a rough landing, Donald asks Panchito what is going on. Panchito shushes him, telling him to watch his favorite dance. Though Panchito is happy to see Donald dance along, he tells him and Panchito that they're off the beat. The magic carpet then takes them on a flight far above Mexico.
Landing near another festivity, Panchito explains to Donald that they dance the "l longo" in De La Cruz. As Donald tries to join in, but gets awkwardly shoved out, Panchito asks him it was fun while affectionately slapping him on the back. He encourages him to try and dance with them again, with José agreeing. After Donald makes a poor impression, Panchito lightly ribs his dancing, which encourages Donald to try harder. But when Donald refuses to leave, Panchito has to work together with José to pull him away from the dancers.
Using his lasso to pull Donald and José to the beach of Acapulco, Panchito gives Donald his spyglass to show him what he calls "the hot stuff", which Donald interprets as spying on the sunbathing women. As it turns out, Panchito doesn't judge him at all for spying, but they end up causing chaos with their flying carpet, leading to the sunbathers fleeing in a panic. When Donald still tries his chance, actually succeeding in getting positive attention from women, Panchito finds him trying to reach them while blindfolded, calling him a "Wolf in Duck's clothing". After Panchito and José pick him up against his will, Panchito teases Donald for his taste in women. When Donald tries to go back to Acapulco, Panchito uses his lasso to pull him back out.
Not wanting to be too hard on the guy, Panchito offers to show Donald the night life of Mexico City, which Donald approves of. Donald falls for the night singer and is taken into a surreal dimension where she serenades him, but then Panchito continuously kills the moment for him by appearing with José and interrupting her singing loudly. After Donald's Surreal Reverie ends, Panchito dresses like a matador, whith Donald in the costume of a bull. Panchito proceeds to fight Donald while José is watching along with several clones of himself. After José lights the bull costume on fire with his cigar, causing the firecrackers at its tail to go off, Panchito still holds the red cloth for Donald. After the bull costume explodes in midair, Panchito covers Donald with the flying carpet and they watch the fireworks together.Fanon[]
DonPan is the least popular combination of the Three Caballeros, largely because of their lack of one-on-one interactions. It still has its fans, due to Donald and Panchito's polar opposite dynamic. They are both known to be loud and easily excitable, but Panchito is an optimist while Donald is a pessimist. Shippers believe that this stark contract might help to balance each other out.
There are currently 30 works on AO3. Its biggest rivals are Donald and Panchito's respective ships with José, DonJosé and PanJosé.
