DottoLisa is the het ship between Il Dottore and Lisa Minci from the Genshin Impact fandom.
Canon[]
Currently, there are no direct interactions between the two characters, though it is established that they work for opposing organizations. Il Dottore works for the Fatui, and is ranked Second of the Eleven Fatui Harbingers, while Lisa is the Librarian of the Knights of Favonius. Publicly, the Knights and the Fatui are allies. This is likely due to the Fatui's orchestrations, secretly causing numerous problems in order to openly solve them, essentially indebting Mondstadt to their organization. As a result, the Fatui have been allowed within the city, with the Knights of Favonius serving as their hosts. However, even with their public status as allies, both organizations have taken inconspicuous hostile steps against one another. Lisa was a part of the ensemble that worked together in the game's official manga to resolve the Black Fire Incident initiated by Collei, which was an indirect consequence of Dottore's god residue experiments. Their opposing actions, paired with the Fatui Order and Knights' relationship as allied-adversaries, indicate that Dottore and Lisa are enemies.
Both characters are also notorious within Sumeru Akademiya, but for completely different — arguably opposite — reasons. While it isn't explicitly confirmed yet, numerous fragments of evidence suggest that Dottore had formerly been the Trainee Dastur known as Zandik during his time in the Akademiya. Due to his actions of heresy and suspicions of murdering a former classmate, he was dubbed 'The Outcast'[1] and was eventually expelled. Lisa, on the other hand, is considered the "infamous Spantamad Prodigy"[2] and heralded as the "most distinguished graduate"[3] that the Akademiya had seen in the last 200 years. Regardless of their individual statuses within the Akademiya, both characters are among the most powerful characters within the game's cast. Lisa, while she actively chooses to live a more peaceful life, is considered incredibly knowledgeable and efficient by her fellow Knights and former Sumeru Akademiya classmates. Some, like Albedo, even feel that she's holding back a great deal of her capabilities for some hidden reason.[4] Additionally, in a post-quest dialogue between NPCs Kama and Sumida, they discuss that Lisa has an "immense aura around her," with Sumida commenting in a meta sense that "these [typical, slightly-lazy] characters do tend to be the strongest."[5] In an organization that ranks their Harbingers based on power level, Dottore found himself ranking Second. As Nahida — the Dendro Archon — states, the top three Harbingers possess powers that can rival gods.[6] It is currently unclear how power level is measured for comparison, but it is likely that his devotion to research and accumulating knowledge contributed to his position and capabilities. During Chapter III of the Archon Quests, Dottore had constructed a massive machine that would both house Scaramouche and be compatible with the Electro Gnosis — effectively building a god.
Time and wisdom are something of value to both Dottore and Lisa, but they approach the two concepts vastly differently. While Dottore uses his time to focus on wisdom, Lisa uses her wisdom to focus on time. Dottore's primary drive is his research and status as a scholar, and had created his segments to develop a variety of perspectives across time. Lisa, on the other hand, has rejected her life as a scholar to instead take life less seriously, appreciating the moments as they come and go. While Dottore still continues to research and Lisa has since ceased her research efforts, both characters seem to be aware of a certain price to pay for the knowledge they obtain.
- “And that's also why people like you can never realize that sooner or later, everyone must pay the price for what they've learned.”
- — Dottore, to Tighnari during the quest As by a God's Side.
On the matter of Visions and gods, Dottore views both with immense disdain, while Lisa now has her reservations about both. Dottore's primary objective is to prove that humans can be equal in power to gods. He currently does not have a Vision, nor does he seem to utilize any Delusions granted to the Fatui by the Tsaritsa. Lisa, in comparison to a majority of the game's cast, had gotten her Vision with ease. She merely thought of needing a Vision, and had received one. She originally viewed Visions with curiosity, wanting to use one to further her studies on the elements, but has since taken a step back.
- “Some even claim... that the Vision gives them a chance at godhood. They will rise to Celestia... and change the world. They're nothing but a bunch of self-inflated tools.”
- — Dottore, about Visions.
It is possible that both Dottore and Lisa have taken an interest in Aranara at some point. While Lisa presents a lazy persona and claims to have ceased her research endeavors for the sake of relaxation, her actions and convictions seem to be at an odds with one another. Relaxing appears to be an active effort on her part, as she continues to create inventions and read the books in the library she's intentionally situated herself in. During Venti's Story Quest, Lisa used dangerous materials from Sumeru to built a contraption that would allow one to view imaginary friends, but decided to avoid testing it herself. Venti speculates that it might be because "she lacks a certain childlike sense of wonder? Or maybe there's some other reason for it." The 'some other reason' could tie in with her wanting to avoid the price of obtaining wisdom. In Sumeru, Aranara are viewed as childhood fantasies, essentially deemed as equivalent to imaginary friends. So, some theorize that the 'imaginary friends' Lisa had been curious to detect were Aranara. Dottore's interest in Aranara resided in trying to figure out the connection between Aranara, dreams, and The Withering. He even ordered Fatui Agent Trofin Snezhevich to capture Aranara for that purpose.
Fanon[]
While the ship did exist on a smaller scale ever since the release of the official manga, the pairing began to bloom following the game's inclusion of the Pale Flame artifact set, where it was revealed in the Wise Doctor Pinion's lore that Il Dottore had formerly attended Sumeru Akademiya. Considering Lisa and Dottore were treated in opposite ways by the Akademiya, shippers took a liking to the potential of a past academic rivalry between the two characters.
Prior to the release of Sumeru, some had formed a headcanon that Lisa, Dottore, and Baizhu were a friend group that all attended the Akademiya together, and some have also considered the idea of a poly ship between the three.
Another headcanon that exists suggests that Dottore has a fascination with human advancement in order to find immortality and to assist with Lisa’s alleged curse, which is known by the fandom due to an interview that took place prior to the game's release. The interview suggested that Lisa touched a magic book and gained immense power, but lost half her lifespan as a result.[7]
Due to Dottore's ability to create clones — known as "segments" — of himself, some have imagined scenarios where one of his segments had met and fallen in love with Lisa in the past. There are also theories that Eroch, the former Inspector of the Knights of Favonius, was one of Dottore's segments that had been planted within the Knights' ranks for particular purposes. As such, shippers have imagined scenarios where Lisa met Dottore as Eroch.
In the game's manga, Amber mentioned that Lisa would say "hot water, potions, and being smart will keep the doctors away." Considering Dottore is also referred to as The Doctor, some imagine that her phrasing — particularly the part about being smart — is a dig at Dottore.
Admirers of the ship have additionally entertained the notion of AUs where Lisa had joined the Fatui, or was otherwise ranging anywhere from morally questionable to completely evil. As such, Dottore and Lisa — rather than experiencing an Enemies-to-Lovers / Lovers-to-Enemies arc — would instead be dangerous partners-in-crime within these storylines.
DottoLisa tends to be considered similar to ScaraMona and Yelone, all three ships presenting a Fatui Harbinger x Non-Fatui Rival / Foil dynamic.
The ship's fanbase is relatively hidden, but quite enthusiastic, as the pairing's artworks on Twitter can garner thousands of likes and hundreds of retweets. Its fanfiction presence, however, is quite minimal in comparison.

Trivia[]
- 🧪🌹 / ⏳🐦⬛ / 📚⚗️ / 💉🪄 / ⚙️🕰️ / 🧬⚡ / ❤️🩹🥀 / 🎀🌸 / 🩵💜 (and all variant combinations) can be used as symbols to represent the pair, with 🧪🌹 being the most common combination.
- Something also worth pointing out for 🧪🌹 is that while 🧪 represents Dottore, the green of the vial matches the green of Lisa's eyes. Inversely, 🌹 represents Lisa, but the red petals match Dottore's eye color.
- There are butterfly motifs present on Lisa's default outfit, Purple Rose, while Dottore's outfit has crow motifs. Both butterflies and crows tend to be associated with the concepts of change and death.
- Both characters have held a notable presence in both Mondstadt and Sumeru.
- The mantle of Omega Build Dottore's outfit has an ornament dangling from it: a cyan tube connected to cyan cone-shaped crystals, which are arranged in a way that appears to be two hourglasses in a link. Lisa's constellation, Tempus Fugit, is shaped like an hourglass.
- Lisa's name is a variation of a Hebrew name (אֱלִישֶׁבַע) that translates to God's promise, while Zandik's name is a Zoroastrian term (𐭦𐭭𐭣𐭩𐭪) that means heretic. The name meanings (one leaning into pious themes while the other is a deviation from them) parallel their contrasting characterizations.
