Dottolone is the slash ship between Il Dottore and Pantalone from the Genshin Impact fandom.
Canon[]
Pantalone's appearance was first revealed in Teyvat Chapter Interlude Teaser: A Winter Night's Lazzo as the Regrator, number Nine of the Fatui Harbingers. He chides Pulcinella for only giving Snezhnaya half a day to mourn their fallen comrade. Not much more is known about him.
Il Dottore made his appearance in the Genshin manga as a scientist sent on diplomatic business to Mondstadt. He displays manic tendencies and is snappish and irritable. This persona is a segment of himself, as Tartaglia reveals in his voiceline that Dottore can create extra segments of himself in his quest to perceive the world from a variety of points of view which change as he himself ages/grows. That makes different versions of him have different degrees of maturity, opinions and ways of acting. It is unknown yet whether Pantalone met the rest of the Dottore segments or his opinion about the decision to delete them all as part of the agreement with the Dendro Archon.
The ship originates from the fact that Il Dottore and Pantalone work together in the Commedia dell'arte, which the Harbingers are based on. In Genshin, the two are likely similar in their dislike of the divine as all harbingers tend to be, as well as not having Visions (at least one of Dottore’s segments) and despising those who do.
In Lazzo, they stand next to each other next to the coffin. Both are smiling at the funeral, which has sparked jokes in the fandom.
According to Wanderer, the two work closely together, something he believes will only bring Pantalone to a "nasty end".
There is a high possibility that Dottore and Pantalone worked together to create Credit Coupons, indicated by the dialogue within the Cashflow Supervision description. This dialogue in the description aligns with Pantalone's firm financial beliefs and hints at experimentation, which is often associated with Dottore.
Quotes[]
- “Honestly, it's nothing worth writing home about, just like how there's also nothing impressive about his abilities or choice of partner. Hmph. Anyone who chooses to work closely with The Doctor is sure to meet a nasty end.”
- — Wanderer's voiceline "About Regrator"
Fanon[]
The ship first came up after the release of A Winter Night's Lazzo in July 2022. There were just a bunch of fanworks tagged as dottolone prior to this date, but due to lack of canon content it was not popular. The ship is between Pantalone and the real Dottore, not a segment. Some popular headcanons including Dottore constantly visiting him to ask for more funding, and them constantly disrupting the other Harbingers with their antics. It is currently the most popular ship of both characters, surpassing the rival ships Dottoscara and Dottochi.
Another popular headcanon involves Dottore's subordinates shipping them.
On AO3, the ship currently has over 1,021 works between slash and gen works along with 1,072 in total.

References[]
- ↑ Scaramouche's comment regarding Pantalone is different in the original simplified Chinese used for the game. While Scaramouche does state that Pantalone and Dottore work closely together and that it's bound to end badly for Pantalone, he does not refer to them as partners as the English localization has translated the line. Consequently, what he does disparagingly comment on is instead Pantalone's taste of things in general: original line in CN text used for the game.
