Pre-Curse[]
The Thing You Love Most
Regina tells the magic mirror and her father that she is going to ennact the Dark Curse. They both tell her that she made a deal when she traded it, so Maleficent won't be happy to see her. Regina doesn't care and has them prepare a carriage to take her to Maleficent.
At the castle, Maleficent asks how Regina is doing. Regina says she's doing fine, and Maleficent says that if she were in that position she'd be very angry over how happy Snow is. She points out that Regina was the same age when she was going to be married before Snow ruined it all, and Regina says it's the same age as Aurora was when she got the best of her. But enough games, Regina wants the Dark curse back. Maleficent says that she traded it for her sleeping curse, and Regina says that it's failed so she should return it. Maleficent says that it can't bring back Regina's loved one, but Regina insists that she needs it. Regina's knows where she hides it, and Maleficent says that it's for a good reason. She asks where Regina got it, but Regina says it's none of her concern. The two then fight and Regina traps Maleficent, getting her hands on the curse. Maleficent says that if she's going to kill her, then she should do it, but Regina says she can't do that since Maleficent is her only friend. Maleficent begs her not to unleash the curse, that it'll create a void in Regina that she'll never be able to fill. But Regina can live with that.

Dragon Queen is a pretty common ship in the OUAT fandom, eventually becoming one of the more popular ships in the fandom. It started pretty early with the second episode of the series, but gained some more followers during the back half of season 4. Those that ship it enjoyed the chemistry between the two, as well as most likely enjoy shipping two well known Disney Villainesses. On AO3, Dragon Queen is the most written ship for Maleficent and their third most written for Regina. It is also the ninth most written ship in the Once Upon a Time (TV) tag.
