- Whatever, I'm done with you. Have a nice life... freak.
- —Drew before leaving Jake in Episode 11: A Singer's Resolve
Drake is the slash ship between Drew and Jake Sterling from The Music Freaks fandom.
Canon[]
Drew and Jake have been shown to have been close friends for a long time, most likely since middle school. In Episode 1: He Can Sing?! Drew is shown to enjoy Jake’s company more than anyone else’s. As Jake walks towards them, Drew begins to smile, and starts bragging about his new LuniBox console that his parents bought him. When Drew invites Jake over to his house, Jake refuses since he had plans, leading to Drew being disappointed. In Episode 2: Trust Issues, Jake mentions he joined the music club for Daisy, Drew seems to get unusually annoyed. He starts getting bent out of shape more than Henry or Liam, and asks if Jake was going to strip down butt naked just because Daisy asked him to. When Jake leaves the lunch table, Drew continues to ramble on to Henry and Liam about how what Jake was doing is ridiculous.
In Episode 4: Lovesick Luke Drew continuously appears annoyed at Jake’s interactions with Hailey. When Jake was distracted during their science project, Drew teases the two by calling Hailey Jake’s “music girlfriend." In Episode 5: A Drummer’s Confession Drew begins to appear more upset due to Jake neglecting him, and accuses Jake of preferring the Music Club’s company over theirs. When Henry claims that Drew sounds jealous, Drew blushes and tells him to shut up. After Jake leaves the lunch table, Henry then claims that it must be sad to see Jake running away to the Music Club "instead of into [his] arms," which leads Drew to start blushing again.
Episode 7: Out in the Open Hailey is concerned about Jake's problems and even asks why he's still friends with Drew, Liam and Henry, advising him it might to best if he stopped. When Jake says he wishes he was someone else, Hailey sings Pushed Down, and says that the club accepts him for who he is adding she considers him a part of the family now. When Jake left Hailey's house, he had a moment to think and rushed back to her house to ask her to sing with him, to which she is flustered at.
In Episode 10 PT 1, Jake instantly accuses Drew of being the one to sabotage him despite it being Lia's doing. Once being fed up with Drew not understanding, Jake tells Drew of Zoey's cheating, which had been obvious since the first few episodes. Drew, obviously hurt and shocked by this is left in the dust as Jake storms off.
In Episode 11 PT 2, Drew confronts Hailey about the music club changing Jake, but Jake puts himself between the two to defend Hailey. Drew tells Jake that all he seems to care about these days is the band competition, and he barely spends any time with Drew anymore. Jake argues that the club was the only place he felt understood, since Drew never seemed to support his passion for singing. Drew argues back saying that Jake is always lying to him, not even telling him about Zoey cheating on him. This makes Jake quiet for a moment, until he nods and tells Drew that he's right. He tries to apologize but Drew laughs and says "Nice to know we were never really friends." which Jake tries to deny but Drew says he's done with Jake and walks away. Jake is clearly devastated and later on during the band competition is seen imagining Drew and his friends in the audience when they aren't really there.
Fanon[]
Drake is a fairly popular ship in the Music Freaks fandom. While it may not be as much as other ships such as Jailey, a prominent rival ship to Drake, it is still quite loved by the fanbase. Much like Juke and Jander, the creator of The Music Freaks, Rosy, would joke about this ship becoming canon. It rose to popularity during the wait between episodes 4 to 5, after a short Rosy posted that ends with Jake and Drew hugging. Fans shipped this because of the trope of "best friends to lovers" and how jealous and sad Drew seems when he sees Jake hanging out with the music club, which have made many fans theorize Drew having a one-sided crush on Jake. As the series is currently progressing, Jake has a crush on Daisy and is also heavily implied to have future or current romantic feelings for Hailey, making this ship fanon.
