In Minecraft, But A Black Hole Grows Every Second..., there were many moments where viewers joked that would've been romantic or sexual if taken out of context. Mainly where Dream comments multiple times how big the black hole was and George replies "are you sure?".
When Dream and George were about to get sucked into the black hole, Dream used his only ender pearl to get himself out, leaving George behind. Despite this, George roots for Dream to survive for all of them. Dream apparently fails to do this as he gets pulled into a black hole at the end of video where this dialogue takes place.
- George – “Just survive.”
- Dream – “I can't. It's pulling me. I'm getting sucked in. I'm- I'm done. I'm done. I'm done. I'm underwater. Oh, I'm in the- I'm in the black hole. I'm in it.”
- George – “Oh no.”
- Dream – “I'm in it.”
- George – “Dream, no. Not like this.”
- Dream – “I'm in it. I'm blind. I can't see anything. It's dark. I'm underwater.”

Fanon
Fans initially started shipping them because of the notably high amount of the times they scream/yell each other names in videos, their concern for each other in games, and how they're almost always collaborating with each other. The ship mainly started gaining popularity when many of Dream's videos went viral and people started paying attention to his channel and therefore to his and George's interactions.
