Dreo is the slash ship between Draco Malfoy and Theodore Nott from the Harry Potter fandom.
Canon[]
Theodore is sorted into Slytherin, and is the same year as Draco Malfoy. As a result, they likely had classes together and may have shared the same dormitories. Draco was present for this sorting ceremony, and was sorted just before Nott. In their fifth year at Hogwarts, Theodore would often spend time with Draco (and his clique Crabbe and Goyle). In their sixth year, both Nott and Theodore studied N.E.W.T.-level in Potions. During their first lesson with Professor Slughorn, they sat next to each other, and they both sniggered when Hermione revealed that she was a Muggle-born. They were also both skeptical of the effects of Amortentia.
Long after the war, Nott had created at least two Time-Turners for Draco's father Lucius. Draco was aware of this and believed their may have been more than one Time Turner made. Draco uses the Time Turner to save his son from the past.
Rowling revealed on her website that an extra scene involving Draco and Theodore was cut from the series. In the scene, Theodore's father visits Lucius Malfoy to discuss Voldemort-related business, leaving Draco and Theodore alone in the garden. Draco is forced to see Theodore as an equal, since they are both just as pure-blooded, and Theodore is somewhat cleverer. Together the two would discuss Dumbledore's regime at Hogwarts and Harry Potter. Rowling tried to use this scene twice: first in Chamber of Secrets and second in Goblet of Fire, but it was inevitability not included.[1]
Fanon[]
Dreo is a rarepair in the fandom. Not much is known about Theodore character. He only appears a handful of times in the books and his appearances are brief. Despite this, he is a popular character to include in fanfictions, often in a more supporting role. Dreo is a common sidepairing in Drarry fanfictions. Draco and Theodore are sometimes depicted as a relationship, but eventually breakup, to allow for Drarry to happen. There are some fanart for this pairing, such as art by loveatabsolutezero, lawliettantei and aneiria-writes.
It is not as popular as other Theodore ships, namely Theomione (Theodore/Hermione) and NottPott (Harry/Theo). Despite this, as of 2022, Dreo have over 500 fanfictions. On a filtered search, they have over 150 fanfictions as Theodore/Draco as the central pairing. It is also popular as a poly ship with Hermione, named Dreomione.
In fanfiction, many of the more popular Dreo fanfics are on the explicit side. Despite this, their are some fluff and a range of other fanfictions. The two are often depicted as friends, turning into a romance. Theodore is often depicted as a more redeemed and a smart Slytherin, compared to Draco. In 2004, fiera_316 wrote an essay on LiveJournal comparing Draco and Theodore, and how they contrast. They note that Draco receieved the prefect badge, over Theodore, despite Theodore believed to be smarter.[2]
