- “I felt I had to say something. For someone as talented as yourself not to find happiness... Well, that would be the greatest tragedy of all.”
- — Eliwood to Fiora, in Blazing Blade
Elfiora is the het ship between Eliwood and Fiora from the Fire Emblem fandom.
Canon[]
Eliwood is one of three main lords in the 7th Fire Emblem game. Fiora is a pegasus rider, mercenary and commander of 5th wing of Illia pegasus knights. Eliwood goes to the Dread Isle to search is missing father. Fiora was hired by lord Pent to investigate the Dread Isle, but all her subordinates were killed by the Black Fang.
Eliwood first meets Fiora during a fight against the Black Fang. She shows up during the battle, in which she was in a suicidal mission to avenge her dead companions, but is convinced by her younger sister give up her revenge and join their group that was commanded by Eliwood.
During the adventure they can can support and develop a relationship. Eliwood worries if Fiora is adapting well in the army, and upon realizing that she tends to think too much on others and overworks herself, he wants her to not be so harsh with herself. He is known to offer a listening ear to the concerns of his troops, as evidenced through his interactions with Fiora, where he asks if she is comfortable with the duties that she performs as a combatant.
Eliwood is also shown to be very much aware of the inescapable difference between his status and that of people like Fiora. While he expresses the idealistic notion that he sees himself and his army's members as equals, he recognizes that these words are ones spoken from a position of privilege, a position that Fiora is unable to access herself by virtue of her social standing and harsh upbringing. This recognition is translated through him making an effort to learn more about the mercenary culture of Ilia that Fiora is born into, granting him the opportunity to better empathize with her struggles. When he asks her to give a chance to be happy, she is taken by surprise by Eliwood sudden embrace and desire to protect her and make her feel better with herself.
They confess their love at the battle at Dragon's Gate. Just before Eliwood's coronation, the two meet in private with their tactician, Mark. They explain that they will be getting married soon. They ask the tactician to name their first child.
The two eventually get married to the dismay of the Lycian nobles who protested, and they have a son who also hold the ideals of his parents of uniting everybody as equals. Their son Roy eventually becomes the Hero and protagonist of the game Binding Blade.
Children[]
Roy
Roy is the assumptive heir, the successor to the title of Marquess of Pherae, known as the lion of Pherae. He is descendant of the hero Roland through his father's side, and descends from Ilian commoners through Fiora. After war broke out in a conflict started by the neighboring kingdom of Bern, Roy went into battle, leading a very powerful army that successfully ended the conflict in the continent. He is the protagonist of Fire Emblem: Binding Blade.
Fanon[]
Binding Blade game provides the information that Roy's mother liked flowers from Illia, the birthplace of Fiora and possibly alluding to her name that means Flower in Italian.
Eliwood and Fiora didn't get much attention upon the game release, but it has become more popular with fans over the years, and the fanbase it does have is quite devoted. The relationship has a lot of aspects that appeal the fans: couple in love fighting together against their difference in social classes, warrior woman marrying a nobleman, war companions becoming something more, and idealistic prince with hardworking lady. The fact that Eliwood is cares for Fiora and that Fiora is a stable and serious presence by his side balance their personalities.
Fiora and Eliwood's support conversations are liked for the insight and character development provided for both characters. Fiora evolves to accept to think about herself which led to her wedding with Eliwood and Roy's birth. Eliwood's whole character arc in the game is to learn to come to terms with the harsh realities of the world, while still keeping to his beliefs and morals, which is supported by his support conversations with Fiora where he learns more about the harshness of Illia but manages to help Fiora. The two are seen as foils to one another; both long to help others and make the world a better place, but Eliwood is more optimistic while Fiora is weary and melancholy due to the losses she's suffered.
Unlike with Lyn or Ninian, she doesn't leave anything important behind as she doesn't lament leaving her homeland like Lyn does, nor does she have her lifespan shortened like Ninian.
However, the pairing has received competition from fans who prefer Eliwood/Lyn, Eliwood/Ninian or Fiora/Kent. Particularly there is strong friction with Elilyn and Elnini shippers, largely due to the game system of multiple canon endings and arguments over which is 'most canon' or 'most deserving' of being canon. It's also been criticized for seeming "random", since Fiora and Eliwood don't interact outside their supports; it's the odd pairing out of all the Lords's ships in that sense (Hector and Lyn each have some story interaction with their potential partners). However despit an initial rivalry with Elilyn the two tend to be shipped by the same people in recent years; even the Elilyn/ Elfiora shippers who aren't multishippers tend to defend the other ship[1][2].
