Elsunzel is the femslash ship between Elsa and Rapunzel from the Frozen and Tangled fandoms.
Canon[]
Being from two different Disney movies, Elsa and Rapunzel have never met in canon. However, the two are implied to live in the same universe, as Rapunzel made a cameo along with Eugene in Frozen, attending Elsa's coronation. They also met in Ralph Breaks the Internet, where they and the other Disney Princesses are fellow netizens in Oh My Disney. There are also some Disney crossover games where the two can be in the same team depending on the player's choice.
Both Elsa are Rapunzel where born with magical powers. While Rapunzel has blonde hair because of the Sundrop Flower powers, it is kinda possible that Elsa also had white hair because of her ice powers. Because of their powers, the two have lived single and under control most of their lives. Rapunzel was kidnapped and locked in a tower, while her presumptuous mother told her that the outside is dangerous, only in order to use her hair to keep herself young. Meanwhile, Elsa was separated from her sister by their parents, and lived afraid of her powers most of her life, while their parents told her to conceal it, though unlike Gothel, Agnarr and Iduna wanted the best for Elsa. Between the beginning and the middle of the movie, the two take the courage of disobey what their parents have told them all their lives, with Rapunzel coming out the tower and Elsa exploding her powers, and finally feel free.
Both Elsa and Rapunzel have a very beloved person, Anna and Eugene respectively, who almost sacrifice their lives for them nearly the end of their films. When it seemed that there was not solution, because Rapunzel had lost her powers and Elsa didn't known how to defrost, they miraculously managed to revive Anna and Eugene and the end. After all, the two finally could live normal lives in their kingdoms.
Fanon[]
Both Elsa and Rapunzel are major members of the Rise of the Tangled Frozen Dragons crossover. The ship can also been considered part of the Disney Princesses fandom as well. The ship sailed due their similarities, as well as their contrasts in personalities and powers. Fanworks often show the cold/warm contrast between them, as well as their symbols being a snowflake and a sun respectively. Some people believe that Rapunzel's blubby personality would remind Elsa of Anna.
There is a popular theory telling that Rapunzel may be Anna and Elsa's cousin, after her cameo in Frozen I. Some people even have theorized that Elsa may be Rapunzel's biological sister and not Anna's. Other people simply like portraying them as friends. The infamous shipping wars between Jelsa and Jackunzel have made some people rival Elsa and Rapunzel, what inspired some people to making them friends or shipping them in order to stop these wars.
The pairing have also been seen in some AUs. The Frozen Tangled Guardians AU has Rapunzel as Elsa and Anna's mother, and Jack Frost as their father. Modern AUs usually have them wearing their Ralph Breaks the Internet outfits. In some Wicked AUs, Rapunzel and Elsa are choiced as Glinda and Elphaba respectively, when Anna doesn't take that place.
On AO3, Elsunzel is the tenth most written ship for Rapunzel. There are currently 50+ written works. There's a good amount of fanart and fanvids of them as well.
