(She always says or does weird stuff, and gets everyone mixed into her antics... But I've enjoyed every minute of it so far... I want Emu to keep doing outrageous things with Tsukasa. I want her to keep concocting crazy ideas with Rui. And... I... I want her to laugh and smile like always...)
—Nene about Emu in "Messenger of Feelings" first card story

Emunene is the femslash ship between Emu Otori and Nene Kusanagi from the Project SEKAI fandom.

Canon[]

Emu Ootori and Nene Kusanagi are both a part of a group called Wonderlands X Showtime, making them groupmates. Nene is often overwhelmed by Emu’s lively and energetic behavior, often running away from her hugs or seeming annoyed, though it's obvious that she doesn't find Emu as bothersome as she claims she does. After meeting they quickly became close friends. Emu attends Miyamasuzaka Girls Academy while Nene attends Kamiyama High School. Emu also often sneaks into Kamiyama, surprising Nene with her requests to hang out and eat lunch together.

Nene sees Emu as a weirdo, like she sees the other group members. Though, that doesn't stop her from showing some care towards her, as she stands up for her, wanting to help her with her problems and in achieving her dreams. They slowly work together more and become good friends over the course of their mishaps and trials. Additionally, Emu thinks Nene is extremely talented at singing, and Emu often asks Nene to help her work on her singing and practice singing together. In an area conversation, Nene admits to being quite happy about Emu's growth in singing as a team; she also praises her growth in singing in a Show Cut-in dialogue.

Main Story[]

Rui Kamishiro, fellow groupmate and Nene's childhood friend, created a robot for her to be able to communicate with other people after an incident that left her distraught with social anxiety. And so, when Nene displays her talent to convince Tsukasa Tenma that she’s able to join the group, the robot takes her place as she controls it, since she's too shy to actually perform on stage. Emu is immediately amazed by the robot, nicknaming it "Robo-Nene" after Nene introduces herself. Emu also instantly likes the way Nene sings through the robot, saying that "Robo-Nene" has an amazing voice, and insists that she wants her to perform with them despite Tsukasa's reluctance. After Emu loudly praises her, Nene blushes from where she's hiding. Tsukasa eventually accepts, and Emu happily welcomes Nene and Robo-Nene onto the team, while Nene thanks her quietly.

During one of the troupe's practices, Emu approaches Nene and asks her to teach her how to sing while Rui torments Tsukasa. Nene agrees, and Emu demonstrates her singing with a silly sounding songs. Nene giggles quietly from where she's hiding, and wonders just what Emu is trying to sing with a soft smile on her face.

After their first show is ruined because Nene forgot to charge the robot, Tsukasa lashed out on her by saying it's her fault that the show was ruined. Emu reassures her, saying there's no need for her to feel bad, but Nene runs away after Tsukasa goes too far yelling at her. Emu calls for her with a sad face, wanting her to come back. After a while, Tsukasa realizes his fault in blaming Nene for the ruined show, realizing his errors with the help of the VIRTUAL SINGERS and meeting up with Emu. Subsequently, he and Emu spots Nene in the park again after Emu recognizes Nene's singing, and they chase her together. They're able to catch her thanks to Emu, jumping on her from above the gate to stop her from escaping with the help of Robo-Nene. Afterwards, Emu becomes worried, asking Nene if she hurt her. After Tsukasa apologizes and Nene says that she will join the group again, Emu expresses her happiness of her staying by saying she's very happy that Nene and Robo-Nene will stay with them. Nene smiles happily and agrees, also expressing her happiness and thanking the others.

Full Power! Wonder Halloween![]

In Nene's first card story, while leaving practice with Rui, she receives a text from Emu which informed her that Emu would fetch Nene at Kamiyama so they could go to the Wonder Stage together after school the next day. Shocked, Nene hurriedly tells Emu to not trespass and instead just wait at the gate. Rui mentions that Nene didn't tell Emu not to come at all, and Nene responds by saying it's because Emu wouldn't listen anyways. Unconvinced, Rui teases Nene about how she seemed to be having more fun after befriending Emu and how Emu's messages are the only ones that Nene diligently tries to reply to despite claiming them to be troublesome. Emu then sends another text saying that she wants to eat lunch together with Nene as well, leading to another back and forth between the two over not trespassing.

Emu surprising Nene at school

In Nene's second card story, Emu fulfills her promise of coming to have lunch with Nene. She surprises Nene during her lunch break, causing Nene to shriek in surprise. Afterwards, the two move to the rooftop where they were most likely not to get discovered. Nene has many questions but doesn't voice them. Following Miku's appearance on Emu's phone and Tsukasa and Rui joining them for lunch, Nene once again wonders why Emu wants to eat lunch with her so much. Too embarrassed to ask directly, she instead messages Emu, to which Emu immediately responds and says that it's because Nene is a dear friend of hers. The two share eye contact and Emu giggles happily, while Nene smiles in return.

On This Holy Night, I Sing[]

When Rui first proposes that Nene be one of the protagonists with a singing role in their Christmas-themed show for a show contest, Nene expresses her hesitance while Emu is excited, looking forward to hearing Nene sing. Even as Nene continues to remain unsure, Emu encourages her and praises Nene's voice which causes Nene to blush as she thanks Emu.

After meeting Sakurako, the singer for another competing troupe, Nene voices her doubts about her singing and compares herself to Sakurako, causing Emu to become visibly worried. A week later, Emu is still concerned and doesn't want to leave Nene alone, wishing there was something that she could do to help. She suddenly gets an idea after recalling what Rui previously said about Nene needing to remember how she sang before her middle school incident. Immediately, Emu runs to Nene and gets close to her, rapidly asking questions in an attempt to bring back memories of Nene's past. They take a break to chat at Emu's insistence, and Nene talks about the first time she'd seen a play. Emu then talks about her own first experience with shows and the two bond over the same excitement and dreams that inspired them to get into acting, lifting Nene's mood and bringing back fond memories.

Emunenejourney

Eventually, Nene realizes that she just needed to be able to enjoy singing again instead of worrying about mistakes. They ended up winning the show contest round, and Nene sincerely thanks the others for helping her remember how to sing the way she used to. Emu is especially happy seeing Nene smile in a way she'd never seen her smile before.

In the after live, Emu and the others talk about how successful their Christmas show was. Emu runs up to Nene and says it's all thanks to her beautiful singing, thanking her enthusiastically. After they perform a song, Emu wants to sing again even though they were supposed to be heading back. As the "most responsible" in the troupe, Tsukasa wants Nene to tell Emu that they can't, but Nene agrees with Emu and says she also wants to sing again.

Smile of a Dreamer[]

Emu's brothers, Shousuke and Keisuke Ootori, are introduced and bring up numerous plans to renovate the theme park, upsetting Emu as she wishes to preserve her grandfathers' park and the memories people have created there. However, she hides this from the rest of the troupe because she doesn't want to worry them, believing that she needs to keep smiling for them to smile. At the SEKAI, Len and Rin mention that they'd found Emu the other day by herself with a sad expression on her face. Tsukasa wonders if Emu had just dropped her snack, but Nene says that Emu would've come crying to her if that were the case and realizes that something serious had probably happened to Emu since she didn't.

After returning to the park, Nene and the others overhear an argument between Emu and her brothers, who belittle and berate her for interfering in "business" that she's not involved in. They run to her and despite Nene's usually reserved manner, she doesn't hesitate to directly confront Emu's brothers, wanting to know why they're yelling at Emu. After her brothers leave, Nene reassures Emu and tells her that she shouldn't apologize for them. She asks Emu to tell them what's going on, though Emu brushes it off by saying they don't need to worry and runs off. Nene meets up with Tsukasa and Rui to talk about Emu after school the following day, and Rui mentions how she's noticeably pricklier due to being worried about Emu.

Messenger of Feelings

Nene hiding behind Robo-Nene as her wish to help Emu is relayed

Later during practice, Nene goes off on her own to get changed. Robo-Nene asks her if something's wrong, and Nene gets a flashback to the time Emu helped her before the Christmas performance. She wants to help Emu and be her strength whenever something bothers her in return, but is unsure of how to tell Emu this. Robo-Nene records the message without Nene's approval and runs to deliver it to Emu, leading to a chase that ends with Nene and Robo-Nene confronting Emu. Though flustered, Nene confirms that the message Robo-Nene had recorded was the truth and says that Emu can tell them what's wrong whenever she's ready.

After Nene and the others take Emu to the ferris wheel and help her realize that she's not alone, Emu explains what happened between her and her brothers. Emu expresses her remorse and says she didn't want to make everyone sad, but Nene once again tells her it's not her fault. While Rui and Tsukasa are in their own world making plans for a future show, Nene notices Emu giggling with a happy smile on her face again. Emu expresses that she has felt warm and fuzzy ever since she talked to Nene, though she doesn't know how to explain it properly, and Nene says she understands.

In Nene's first card story which takes place after Emu had ran off following the argument with her brothers, Nene runs into Ichika. She confides her worries in a way that doesn't make it obvious it's about Emu, instead saying it's the situation is something she heard from a friend. After listening to Nene talk, Ichika says that the girl Nene was talking about must mean a lot to "her friend", and Nene nods. Speaking from experience, Ichika then tells Nene that if she keeps hesitating, the person feeling lost is the one who would suffer the most in the end. With flashbacks of Emu calling her name, Nene thinks of how Emu always gets everyone involved in her antics; despite seeing the things Emu does as weird, Nene has enjoyed every minute of it. She wants Emu to keep doing these crazy things and continue to laugh and smile as she always does. Nene makes up her mind to help Emu and thanks Ichika for her advice.

During the final chorus when everyone has their eyes closed in the music video of the event commissioned song, "Once Upon a Dream", Nene is the only one who has her eyes open as she gazes at Emu.

Wonder Magical Showtime![]

In Emu's first card side story, after she and the others convince the Phoenix Wonderland staff and cast to work with them on their show meant to make everyone smile, Emu and Nene are beside each other. Nene asks Emu if something's the matter due to her expression, and Emu says nothing's wrong and she's just happy that everyone was willing to help them. Suddenly, a few members of the cast approach Emu and express their remorse for not helping Emu protect the park sooner, but that they're determined to save it now. Emu lets out a sniffle while Nene gently smiles and helps Emu find her words. After the cast members leave, Emu tells Nene how happy she is that she's not alone in wanting to preserve the park and that she's glad she didn't give up and asked Nene and the others to help her. Nene feels the same way, and the two convey their determination to make the show succeed together.

Emunene WMS

Emu tackling Nene

In Nene's second card story, Nene pulls Emu aside during practice, and Emu asks if she wants to practice singing together. Nene agrees but before that, she tells Emu about how she'd talked to her classmates who had seen their show online and wanted to visit Phoenix Wonderland again because of it. Nene was grateful and told them how much the park and the friends she does shows with meant to her, with flashbacks to Emu crying in the ferris wheel and later regaining her smile. After Nene finishes telling her what happened, Emu is elated and jumps onto Nene while thanking her. Nene is embarrassed and protests, but Emu continues to tug at Nene's cheeks, saying they're soft and full of love. Nene then starts giggling as Emu's tickling her, before Emu gets off her and declares that they will need to work extra hard if Nene's friends are coming to see their shows. Nene remarks that Emu's always doing that anyways, though she also becomes motivated to try harder. The two then start singing practice together.

In Tsukasa's second card story, Emu suggests that they do a show about becoming Phoenix Wonderland's ambassadors. Nene says that it's a good idea, and Emu is particularly happy that Nene liked her idea.

In Rin's second card story, Emu and Nene visit the Wonderland SEKAI together in order to thank the VIRTUAL SINGERS for their help during the performance and show them a recording of it.

Let's Have the Absolute Best Summer![]

In Emu's first card story, Emu tells Nene and the others that she'll be going to the Seaside School in a week. Emu is excited for the trip but sad that they can't come with her as she feels as though she'd be having fun without them, but Nene tells her to just go and have enjoy herself. Rui suggests that Emu could bring back stories for them to hear, which Emu and Nene think is a good idea and prompts Emu to ask what Nene and the others like to do at the beach. Nene says she's curious as to whether the sea can really be heard in a shell or not, and Emu promises to try look for good shells for Nene.

During the trip, Emu went looking for shells with Miku and collected many, though she was disappointed that didn't find a particularly large shell she could give Nene. She tells this to Honami, and the two went looking and found one together.

Emunene Summer

Nene listening to the shell that Emu gifted her

In Emu's second card story, she sneaks off to the Wonderland SEKAI and surprises the others during practice. She fills in the others about the things she's done so far and shows them all the shells she collected with Miku, before giving Nene the biggest and prettiest shell she found and saying that she got it just for Nene. Nene is surprised and asks if she can really have it, which Emu affirms and mentions that Nene can hear the ocean if she puts it to her ear. Nene does as Emu says and is amazed; while Emu is delighted that Nene likes it, Nene has a gentle smile and a blush on her face. Emu then apologizes as she needs to go and Nene wishes for Emu to have just as much fun on the last two days of her trip.

In the after live, Emu, Nene, and Miku perform Dance Robot Dance with Emu and Nene in matching outfits. Miku mentions that she and Emu had spent ages thinking of something fun they could do together and came up with this show since Nene was unable to go to the Seaside School with them. Nene says they didn't have to go that far for her, but Emu replies that fun things are fun when they do them together and she wants to have fun with Nene. They then talk about Emu performing theme songs from musicals during her trip because Nene said she had enjoyed hearing Emu and Miku talk about the fun they had, and Emu wishes for Nene to see her perform those songs someday.

Mermaid Admiration[]

Nene suggests doing a show based on The Little Mermaid for their performance at Phoenix Ocean Resort as Phoenix Wonderland's ambassadors after reminiscing about her experience watching the show and idolizing the the actress who played the Little Mermaid when she was little. Upon hearing that this actress is scheduled to return to Japan soon and may perform near them, Emu is excited at the possibility of meeting Nene's idol. She then says that they should perform The Little Mermaid after hearing Nene's story, and the troupe makes the decision to perform it with some twists from the original.

Emunene Mermaid

Nene panicking and shaking Emu after meeting Kazamatsuri

After their first performance at the resort goes off without a hitch, Nene wanders during clean up and ended up encountering her idol, Yuuka Kazamatsuri. Nene is extremely nervous but tells Kazamatsuri that she's looked up to her ever since she was a child, and the two have a conversation about how that performance of The Little Mermaid inspired Nene to get into singing and acting. Kazamatsuri then inquires about Nene's performance and says she may be able to attend their last one before Emu can be heard calling Nene from the distance. They separate and Emu runs to Nene, informing her that she had finished cleaning up and came to fetch her. Nene mumbles Emu's name and suddenly grabs her shoulders, shaking Emu in a panic as she asks what to do because Kazamatsuri would be coming to see their last show. Emu is surprised and asks Nene to calm down, becoming dizzy from the shaking.

During their last performance, Robo-Nene malfunctioned after getting kicked by a group of kids before a crucial part in the play, but Nene manages to stall enough time for Rui to fix Robo-Nene with an ad-libbed song. When the performance is over, Emu sprints to Nene and exclaims that her ad-lib and singing was "super duper extra wonderhoy", and that Nene had become a shining star in that moment. Kazamatsuri then confronts the group and asks to talk with Nene alone, and Emu tells Nene that they'll take care of cleaning so she could talk with Kazamatsuri as much as she'd like.

In Nene's first card story, before the trip, she thinks about the show they'll put on as ambassadors. With a flashback to Emu telling her brothers how she couldn't give up on making Phoenix Wonderland a place where everyone can smile forever, Nene expresses her determination to make the performance a success so more people will visit the park.

In Nene's second card story, she and the others are back at the Wonder Stage and performing in front of a larger crowd than usual due to the success of their show at the resort. She notices Emu beaming and is thinks about how Emu's effort has led to this revival of liveliness in the park with a smile on her face. During the performance, Emu cheers Nene on right before the scene where Nene has to "transform" into Robo-Nene.

In Emu's second card story, after a beach volleyball match with the others, they take a break before their ride comes to pick them up. Nene sits down on the sand and Emu declares that she'll sit next to Nene with a giggle and scoots close to her.

POP IN MY HEART!![]

While Emu, Nene, Rui, Tsukasa, and Emu's brothers are visiting Riley's theme park in the United States, they meet up with Riley who tells them about the decisions he's made to preserve the smiles in his park. When Riley leaves for a moment to pick up a call, Nene is the first to notice Emu frowning and asks her what's wrong. Emu tries to pass it off as nothing, but Nene sees through her and once again says that she wants to know if anything troubles Emu. Emu admits that, compared to Riley and the rest of the troupe, she feels like she's been useless while everyone else has been helping her make Phoenix Wonderland a place where everyone can smile. She wants to learn how to make decisions and see reality like they do instead of just dreaming all the time, but Nene and the others tell her that her dreams are crucial as they're what drives the troupe forward. Emu regains her smile and decides that she wants to keep dreaming with the others' help while Nene has a soft smile on her face.

In Emu's second card story, after the troupe returns and continues their practices, they start by bringing out their notes of what they learned during the trip to America. Emu's notebook has become more decorated since her goal has changed from wanting to learn how to run a business to learning to balance her dreams and reality. Nene points out the meaning of the stickers and notices that they're supposed to represent the Wonder Stage. Emu is surprised that Nene got it right, while Nene giggles softly and says it's because they've known each other for a while now.

On the Stage of Dazzling Light[]

In Nene's first side story, Emu once again trespasses into Kamiyama as she, Nene, and Rui had agreed to meet and check up on Tsukasa while he was struggling to learn the role of Torpe in their next show, Torpe the Pianist. She comes to pick up Nene in her classroom first, this time knocking and calling for Nene before entering. Nene asks why she can't just let herself in since she's "here pretty much all the time now", and Emu replies that she's just trying to be polite but also sneaky since they're not supposed to let Tsukasa know they're checking on him.

Desperate Times?! Island Panic![]

Wonderlands x Showtime receive their next show assignment to perform at a venue in Okinawa and will be taking Shousuke's cruiser there. However, a storm causes their cruiser to crash on a deserted island and Nene wakes up on the beach not knowing where she is before hearing Emu's voice and immediately asking the other girl if she's alright. They meet up with Rui, Tsukasa, and Shousuke and end up having to survive on the island until help arrives.

When they venture into the forest to look for food, Nene is the first to notice Emu being missing from the group and worries for her. However, Emu quickly rejoins them and brings a bunch of berries from a tunnel she discovered. She also noticed the bananas on the trees high above them that they could eat, though the trees are too tall for any of them to reach. Rui suggests that Nene stand on his and Tsukasa's shoulders with Emu on her shoulders, but Nene is hesitant because she doesn't want to drop Emu. Emu proposes that Nene sit on top of her shoulders then, promising to hold Nene tight and keep her steady. With encouragement from the VIRTUAL SINGERS, Nene eventually agrees, and Emu checks up on Nene and asks if she's alright the whole time she's hoisted up. Nene finds herself struggling to reach the bananas still as she'll need to stand up a little further, but is pressured when Tsukasa suddenly feels himself about to sneeze and might knock their formation over in the process. Emu reassures Nene and says she'll catch her if they fall, which helps gives Nene the courage to stand up and get the bananas.

Thank You For Playing With Us

The monkeys giving thank-you gifts to Emu and Nene

However, as Nene and the others celebrate their success and are about to head back to where Shousuke is, a bunch of monkeys snatch all their food and take off. They gives a futile chase until Rui comes up with a plan to take back their food. The plan is successful but in the end Emu wants to share their food with the monkeys anyways as they were the ones intruding in the first place and the monkeys just seemed hungry, though they actually just wanted to play. The monkeys end up giving Emu and Nene more food in return as thanks for playing tag with them, and they part ways on a good note as the troupe finally leaves the forest returns to Shousuke.

Once they set up camp at the beach, Nene reveals that she's had fun despite initially being worried about their predicament and Emu appreciates her smile as she says this. The troupe eats dinner together after the food is done cooking, which Emu and Nene had made the recipes for together though they really just threw everything they'd collected in. As they eat, they talk about stories around the campfire with Shousuke and bring up past shows; when their first show, The Little Mermaid, is mentioned, Emu once again compliments Nene's singing voice and says she thought Nene was the real Little Mermaid during her ad-lib moment. They also talk about their dreams and Emu scoots close to Nene when asking her about her dream. Nene wishes to become a musical actress and Emu is supportive, though she saddens when realizing it means Wonderlands x Showtime will eventually have to separate to pursue their individual dreams. Nene feels the same way but stands up after reflecting on her time with the others and expresses that she wants to keep supporting each other when they do achieve their dreams while cherishing the shows they were able to put on together. Their discussion ends on a bittersweet note as Emu and the others cheer up due to Nene's words, with Emu declaring that they'll keep doing their best and Nene having a soft expression on her face as she says Emu's name.

The next morning, Nene wakes up to Emu talking in her sleep and mumbling Nene's name in her dream about gingerbread houses and witches. Nene smiles in endearment while wondering just what sort of dream Emu is having. Tsukasa's yell wakes Emu up and they meet up with the others; they decide to ad-lib a show in preparation, and Emu begins from the climax and acts as a knight with Nene as her princess. After the scene is over, Emu praises Nene's acting which has improved ever since she's gained confidence because of their adventure in the forest.

In the event commissioned song "Hoshizora no Melody", Nene sings the line "On a starless night, we cuddle in the dark" with Emu singing as background vocals during the cuddling part. Emu is also the background vocal for many of Nene's other lines.

close game/OFFLINE[]

Nene finds out about a gaming tournament that will hand out VIP passes to the Gaming Expo as prizes for the first place winners. She invites the rest of Wonderlands x Showtime to participate as two pairs, but Tsukasa and Rui end up not being able to go as they need to pick up a large prop for their next show on the day of the tournament. This leaves Emu and Nene to attend as a pair together, and Emu assures them that they'll be victorious as long as Nene is on the team. After everything is decided, Emu jumps onto Nene, declaring that they should do their best to win. Nene is surprised but smiles endearingly at Emu and agrees.

On the day of the tournament, Emu and Nene take a look around the arcade for a bit before the tournament actually starts. Emu points out a dancing rhythm game and mentions that she'd gotten up to the highest level the last time she played it, and Nene is impressed with her skill. They then register for the tournament and Emu writes down their names and team name on the form handed to them. Nene doesn't know that Emu had already decided their team name—"Piko Piko Wonderhoy"—and is a bit embarrassed when their name is called out in front of the crowd, though she still thinks it's cute.

Emnn

One of Emu and Nene's Print Sticker Photos

The first "game" the teams will be competing in is making the most liked "Print Stickers" in the arcade photobooths. Nene is stunned as she was expecting PvP games like shooters, while Emu is excited and runs towards the photo booths as Nene hurriedly chases after her. Nene is smiling as Emu tries out several poses but expresses her embarrassment and hesitation at doing poses like these. Emu and Miku convince her to do a cute and energetic pose however, and they end up doing Emu's signature "wonderhoy" pose for their final photo with lots of doodles and decorations added. With this photo, they win the first round and both of them convey their excitement and relief.

The second game the teams will be competing in is "Puyo Puyo" in tournament matches. The first match up is between them and Akito and Touya, who are also competing, starting with Emu and Akito against each other. Emu takes the lead and prepares chains rapidly, and Nene mentally praises Emu's skill again. Emu ends up winning the match and Nene applauds her; Emu giggles before encouraging Nene in her upcoming match against Toya. However, despite Nene's quick counters, Toya's combo chains wins his team both of their match-ups and the second game.

The third and final game, where points are doubled to raise the stakes, is a survival game called "Field Battle". Nene is thrilled when she hears the game's name; when Emu asks if she's played it before, Nene replies that she has and is confident they can win. Emu is excited and wants Nene to teach her how to play since she's never played the game before, and Nene agrees. She gives Emu some tips before the game begins, and Emu listens intently. She also calls herself "Private Emu" and refers to Nene as her strong and reliable captain that she'll follow wherever she goes.

The game begins and Nene guides Emu as she'd promised. Emu shoots the gun she picked up unprompted and accidentally attracts an opponent to their location, making Nene cry out her name as they begin shooting at Emu. Emu manages to jump around and dodge their bullets, and Nene takes the chance to headshot the enemy. Nene informs Emu that she defeated the enemy, and Emu is amazed and declares that she'll follow her Captain Nene for the rest of her life. Nene giggles softly before advising Emu not to shoot impulsively like that again else she put herself in danger again. Emu apologizes sincerely, while Nene reassures her that it's okay as long as she understands. The two then continue on, determined to win against the remaining opponents.

They encounter the team that had attempted to cheat but still lost in their Puyo Puyo match against Toya, and Emu encourages Nene as she shoots at the enemy. Suddenly, a smoke bomb separates the two; Emu calls for Nene, who tries to calm her down and get her out of the smoke but ends up exposing herself in the process; before Nene gets shot, Toya arrives with Akito and kills the opponent. The two pairs team up against and take down the remaining cheater, though he uses a bug to take out Akito and Emu and leaves Nene to face off against Toya. Emu cheers Nene on from the side and Nene wins for them.

The tournament ends with Emu and Nene in first place. The two get both the VIP passes and extra one-year all-you-can-play tickets for the arcade, as the store manager had ended up giving Akito and Toya their two extra VIP passes. Emu and Nene are both elated and say they'll come often. After performing Dance Robot Dance in the after live, Emu says wants to tag along whenever Nene goes to the arcade and use their passes together; when Nene agrees, Emu cheers and looks forward to playing all sorts of arcade games with Nene. They also plan to hold a gaming tournament in SEKAI using Nene's portable console games, with Emu suggesting they team up again. Nene then talks about how she used to only play games on her own, but has realized how fun it is to play with others and wishes to play games with Emu again in the future. Emu giggles and says she'll always play games with Nene.

In Emu's first card story, Emu and Nene decorate their Print Sticker with Emu taking the lead as Nene isn't confident in her drawing skills. Emu draws a pair of cat ears on Nene before giving Nene the pen and guiding her to draw a mustache on Emu's face, making Nene giggle. Despite her initial hesitance, Nene is influenced by Emu's energy and also wants to make everyone smile with their photo. She draws the singing flowers from the Wonderland SEKAI in an empty corner, which Emu loves, and the two add more decorations to the photo together.

In Emu's second card story, Emu and Nene stay at the arcade for a little longer after the tournament has ended. Emu wants to play all the games they didn't play during the tournament with Nene; Nene praises Emu's skills after a few games, saying she'd only given Emu pointers and Emu was the one who pulled everything off immediately. Emu giggles happily and replies that it's only thanks to the good advice Nene had given her, before starting a rhythm game. Despite setting it to EXTREME difficulty, she does well and even gets the top score to Nene's surprise. The game prompts her to enter a name, and Nene advises her to use a nickname instead of her real name. Emu does as she says and also asks Nene what she used for her nickname. Nene admits that she used the same name she always does in games—Pomero, meaning grapefruit and referring to Nene's favorite fruit—and Emu exclaims that it's a very cute name. Nene is embarrassed and doesn't answer when Emu asks about the name's meaning, but Emu insists on knowing and says she'll look it up on her phone. Nene tries to stop her, though Emu says she'll look it up later and Nene smiles at Emu in endearment anyways.

In Miku's first and second card story, Emu and Nene visit the Wonderland SEKAI to show the VIRTUAL SINGERS their Print Stickers. They also take more photos with the VIRTUAL SINGERS and doodle on them together.

A Sorrowful Farewell at the Curtain Call[]

As Wonderlands x Showtime introduce themselves to the cast of Tokyo ArcLand's Center Theatre, the troupe they'll be performing their last ambassadorial show with, Nene nervously introduces herself with a speech. Emu calls her speech very "wonderhoy", but thinks that it might've been even more "wonderhoy" if she sang as well. Nene looks away, flustered, and says she might another time. After working out details and practicing for their show, Wonderlands x Showtime eat dinner together with Asahi Genbu and the rest of the ArcLand troupe. They make a cheer and Emu is quick to dig into her food while Nene gently warns her to be careful and not burn her tongue.

Nene leaving to walk Emu home

The day before their performance and after Rui is offered a position at ArcLand by Asahi, he walks home and is called out to by Emu from Nene's window. Emu was over at Nene's house because the two had time and decided to practice their lines for together, and Nene had been about to walk Emu out. The two talk to and express their concern for Rui, who appears conflicted, before he leaves and Nene walks Emu back to her place.

After the performance, the troupe takes a train back. Emu and Nene both fall asleep, with Emu sleeping on Nene's shoulder and talking in her sleep while Nene mumbles about her shoulders feeling heavy.

In Nene's first card story, which takes place before the performance, Wonderlands x Showtime and the ArcLand troupe take a break during practice. Emu calls out to Nene to sit together during their break and Nene agrees. A cast member approaches them and offers them tea that is for the throat. Nene later makes honey-lemon tea and plans to return the favor during their next practice but she freezes during her chance. Emu calls her name several times and asks her what's wrong, finally breaking Nene out of her daze. She tells Nene that she's not sure what Nene wants to do, but encourages her and gives Nene the courage to give the tea to the ArcLand cast members. Afterwards, Emu is happy that Nene was able to do what she wanted, and Nene thanks Emu for helping her speak up.

In Nene's second card story, during another break, Emu runs over to Nene and praises her performance as the "scary drill sergeant". Nene thanks her quietly, but Emu notices something's bothering her and asks if anything is wrong. Nene confesses that she was comparing her own acting to Asahi and Tsukasa's, which Emu says she understands.

In Emu's first card story, Rui, Tsukasa, and Asahi leave to buy confetti after their last practice, leaving Emu and Nene to walk to Nene's house and practice their lines together. As they walk, the two discuss the practices and the fun they've had working with the ArcLand cast, also expressing their sadness that everything's about to end since their performance is the next day. However, Emu says they can't stay down about it forever, and both make up their minds to do their best in tomorrow's performance.

Fanon[]

Emunene is a somewhat popular ship in the fandom (more so in the Western fandom). It is currently both Emu and Nene's most written ship on AO3. It is mostly rivaled by Emukasa and Ruinene. But the fandom does not have any problem with multi-shipping, so it is not rare to see people ship Emu and Nene with other characters and together too. Emunene is mainly shipped alongside RuiKasa, although that is more common in the Western fandom than in the Eastern fandom.

The fandom seems to like how Nene stands up for Emu, and how Emu tries to help Nene with her issues. They're very close friends, so it is to no surprise that the fandom likes to see them together. The ship is also a part of the poly ship Polyshow, regrouping all the members of WonderlandsxShowtime together in a polyamorous ship.

Emunene follows the opposite attracts trope, which is appreciated in the fandom. They also follow the friends to lovers trope and various others, with Nene appearing annoyed by Emu’s intensely lively attitude yet appreciating it.
