Endarn is the het ship between Endon and Sharn from the Deltora Quest fandom.

Canon[]

Endon and Sharn were both introduced in The Forests of Silence. Both having been raised in the palace of Del, Endon was the King of Deltora while Sharn was a young woman whose ancestors came from Tora, Del’s sister city. The pair were married by arrangement when they came of age, never having spoken prior to this event as per the code of laws known as the Rule. Despite this, the two came to love each other, and were expecting a child by the time Endon had “reigned” over Deltora for seven years.

Unfortunately, Deltora had long been infiltrated by servants of the evil Shadow Lord who had prepared for their master’s eventual seizure of the land. Finally beginning to see this, Endon reached out to his old friend Jarred, whom he had told Sharn of, for help. Both Jarred and Sharn urged Endon to break from the Rule and take up the Belt of Deltora, the land’s one magical protection from the evil of the Shadow Lord. In the ensuing confrontation with Prandine, secret servant of the Shadow Lord, Endon was astonished when Sharn tricked the villainous creature to his death.

Prandine had already removed the Belt of Deltora’s gems and delivered them to messengers that carried them to locations across the land. Sharn helped convince Endon that the time to go after them had not come, and that their child would be able to wear the Belt in Endon’s stead when the time came. As would later be revealed in Return to Del, the king and queen would accept Jarred’s offer to take up residence in his home and assume the identities of Jarred and his wife Anna. This allowed Endon and Sharn to remain in relative safety in Del and raise their son, Lief, as an ordinary boy rather than in the way Endon had been raised.

The couple also befriended another escapee from the palace, the former palace guard Barda. Initially, Endon hoped that he would be able to go on the quest to retrieve the gems, but an injury to his leg made this impossible. He and Sharn convinced Barda that Lief should be allowed to accompany him on the mission, and they reluctantly agreed when Barda insisted that Lief learn how to fend for himself on the streets of Del as well as pursue other paths of education. Finally, on the night of Lief's sixteenth birthday, Endon and Sharn told Lief about the quest for the Belt and sent him on his way.

In Dread Mountain, Lief learned that his parents had been arrested and taken to the palace of Del due to his and Barda's activities alongside their ally Jasmine. Spying on his father through magical means, Lief saw Endon react with fear when Fallow, the Shadow Lord's lieutenant, threatened to harm Lief's mother if Endon refused to cooperate. Despite this, Endon would remain defiant, and Sharn likewise refused to give up any information to the enemy.

During the final battle in Return to Del, Endon and Sharn managed to rise up and attack Fallow despite their long and cruel imprisonment. Sadly, Endon was mortally wounded during the altercation, but he would die in peace after seeing Lief learn who he truly was when the Belt of Deltora shown for him and drove the Shadow Lord from the land. Together with Lief, Sharn would later sit in vigil for her husband's body, as revealed in the Dragons of Deltora book The Sister of the South. In Deltora Shadowlands, it was revealed that the one somewhat valuable item Sharn kept in her rooms at the palace in Del was a locket that held a picture of Endon in his youth.
