- Tana – “Hello, Ephraim. Shall we take a break together? [...] It's just... [...] All I want to do is be near you more and more. [...] Do you think you could make more time for me, so we can chat?”
- Ephraim – “Tana, you're still just a child at heart, aren't you? [...] I meant it as a compliment. Because you're so young, your words have such a simple, honest purity... I do appreciate your affection.”
- — Ephraim and Tana in their A support
Ephtana is the het ship between Ephraim and Tana from the Fire Emblem fandom.
Canon[]
Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones[]
Tana is the younger child of king Hayden of Frelia. She and her brother Innes are childhood friends of Ephraim and his twin sister Eirika, as both are heirs of the allied kingdom of Renais.
Ephraim is the leader of the army and Tana officially joins the army in order to accompany her comrades and older brother to war. The circumstances in which she gets involved in the war vary, depending on the path taken: in Eirika's route she flies over to Eirika and says that since Eirika, Ephraim, and Innes are all fighting, she will as well. She vows that she will not be left out. In Ephraim's route, she is captured by Grado troops yet again after trying to help Ephraim, but Ephraim rescues her. On both routes, she continues to fight with Eirika and Ephraim.
Tana appears to harbor a crush on her old friend Ephraim, even though he acts as oblivious all the time of her feelings, unless the player decides to pair the together.
In their romance, Ephraim tries to protect Tana by telling her not to participate with him in the battles, but she insists on being with him.
Tana reminds Ephraim of the first time they met, in Frelia. However, Ephraim avoids talking about her and instead tells about Innes, Tana's brother. Tana takes it to mean that Ephraim doesn't care about her and leaves in a huff.
Finally, in their A support, Ephraim points out to Tana her strange way of behaving in front of him, to which she says her concern that he is not paying attention to her. Tana wants them to have more time to talk, to which Ephraim retorts that they will do so after the war. At the end of the game, if they both are paired together, Tana marries Ephraim and becomes the queen consort of Renais, while both visit Frelia from time to time to see her brother Innes.
In Ephraim's route, Ephraim's morale suffers a crushing blow when Lyon steals the Sacred Stone and crushes it right in front of him. Tana goes to him and is able to reassure him, and after that chapter's battle he thanks her for lifting his spirits.
Fire Emblem Heroes[]
Ephraim and Tana are two of the heroes that the player can summon separately via the Breidablik using orbs to help Alfonse and his sister Sharena defending their kingdom Askr from the Emblian Empire. As in their original game, Ephraim and Tana can develop a bond via support. They can raise their level of support in the following ranks: C, B, A and S if they stand together in the gameplay.
Fanon[]
Ephtana is quite popular within the Sacred Stones fandom, specially for following the traditional archetype in Fire Emblem composed of lord x pegasus rider like Caedarth and it's predecessors, like Elfiora, Royshanna, Sumibin or Chromia. Fans who like this ship enjoy how Tana has developed feelings for Ephraim and also like that they are childhood friends. It is sometimes shipped alongside Ephraim sister's het ship Eirinnes, due to the commonality they find, as both Tana and Innes are siblings from Frelia, like Ephraim and Eirika from Renais, and the four characters make a quadrilateral of of het in-law pairings. Many fanworks take place in a post-game setting, when both Ephraim and Tana are married and ruling Renais; or in the alternate timeline were added to Fire Emblem Heroes, some fans like featuring the pair in Askr.
The pair may receive criticism for those who think they were strangled by the red strring or that don't see Ephraim actually interested on her, seeing it as a political union. Rival pairings are usually Ephrachel and Ephlyon (Ephraim x Lyon) on Ephraim's side and Cormatana (Cormag x Tana) on Tana's side, most being alternative possibilities for other canon paired endings for the respective characters.
